Greetings all, I thought I would share the early stages of my first build. Like Jimbo7’s thrower, mine too is going to be all aluminum scratch build, unlike Jimbos, it probably wont look as nice! First a few quick notes about my thrower and eventually my pack. I am not going for 100% screen accuracy. I will substitute some form over function. You see my pack is going to be a Custom modded PC case. I attend several 500 person lan parties a year, so this will be my gaming rig. A case you can easily transport on your back! I decided to go aluminum for strength while keeping it somewhat light. This will probably be a fairly slow build, I’m shooting for a November '09 completion. (Although I do hope to be able to wear it for halloween!)
First things first, here is some of the raw materials prior to starting, along with an nice ebay score! (~$25 shipped for all of those clippards)

You can always tell a true NW’ern when you hear the word “Skookum” (I love the wineries up in Kelowna, btw!) I do plan hitting all of the external seams either with braze rod, or jb weld and will sand them smooth.
Well since it was fathers day, I got a few hours of shop time in today.
I cut and mounted the front palm rest:

Got the rear cylinder cut and grooved out:
I started on the bottom mounting plate. Let me tell you this is a bear of a job without access to a milling machine! It is sloooooooow going with my dremel tool, router attachment and a two flute mill, taking just a tiny pass on each cut. This is definitely still a work in progress. I may be getting a mini-mill soon, and would make my life much easier!
I also got my trigger block cut and capped. This is what it looks like before attacking it with the grinder, to grind down my brazed welds and smooth it all out.
Got a few free moments with the wifey and kids gone, so I snuck out to the shop for a bit. Made a little progress.
Got the rear handle angle cut, and formed a mounting tab for it.
Mounted up with a rivet to add strength to it: I have countersunk rivets ordered and on their way. I will leave this rivet in temprarily while I braze weld the handle on. I will then drill out this rivet, countersink it a bit, add the countersunk flanged rivet and it shoud be flush mounted then. A dab of jb weld, and it should almost disappear.
Got my front barrel cut and turned down the collar and extention tip. It came out with a really odd faceted effect, which I actually kinda dug and it gives it a bit of “bling”
Hi all, just a few quick updates today. Anyone perfect a time machine yet? I sure could use a few more hours in the day!
First things first, got a shiny new weapon in my shop arsenal…
I have needed one for so long and have finally gotten around to getting one. I fired it up and got a few mounting holes drilled today and got my clippard mounted up.
Got the barrels “welded” with some “Durafix” aluminum brazing rods, it turned out pretty decent, only need to grind a wee bit of slag and over burden off.
I got most of the body sanded and ground smooth. Just need to hit the seams with a bit of putty.
I started working on laying out grips. I am going to try and make them out of wood, like Jimbo did, as I like how they turned out, but I may end up going with resin grips if I need to. Thanks for watching me fumble through this build!!
