Even better if we could afford TIG welders.. I <3 TIG welds.
Oh I hear ya CPU,I’m planning on learning how to weld soon, such a great skill to have,at least I think so.
thanks guys…and yea im waiting on another run of his heat sinks. cant wait to get one bolted on ![]()
Simply bad ass Jimbo, nothing more to say.
Chris
Dude!! Like Winston said: You have the tools and you have the talent!
Make your own heatsink! ![]()
Jim, you are definitely inspiring me to get back to crackin’ on mine. One of the sexiest guns I have seen on here!!! Wish I lived closer to join you in finishing mine!
this is looking really good! wish i had the tools/talent to work with metal.
update time!! i welded the body and handles up myself. and i never should have done that lol. im going to finish this build, but its going to be just to sit on the shelf. i wont be using it for my pack. the only reason that im doing this, is becuase the rear handle drew upwards a bit when welding it and im too anal to let that slide. the gun is turning out really well, but i want the next one to be professionally welded. that way the welds will look nice and will make the thrower that much better. already have the metal ordered for the next build…YAY!!
first pic is after i have welded the thrower and used a product called Minute Mend epoxy to fill the seams. this stuff is super strong and is very easy to work with.

and these pics are partially painted. i dont have the top and face painted since i still have to mill the vent holes and the bargraph. it will be easier to mark since its not painted. also i have to move the rear bar over about an 1/8".

thats it for now
jim

I’m in love. ![]()
I was expecting a pretty dime stack pattern TIG weld. ![]()
I think it looks great.
…Oh how I wish someone didn’t buy all the orange caps at skycraft… (And leave all the sockets)…

yea so was i..i cant seem to weld aluminum worth a ■■■■. that’s why the next one will be taken somewhere. as far as the orange caps. i got those from griff on proptopia. i was one of the lucky ones to actually recieve mine. feel bad that i got mine from him and so many others didnt.
Did you use a MIG welder? I think you can only get pretty welds with a TIG.
yea i had to use a mig welder..i knew tig was the way to go, and i actually tried it, but never could get it to stick..dont know what the deal was with that. ive welded stainless with it no prob in the past. although im not a welder. im a cable guy lol
im about 85% finished with my thrower. i need to get my grips from nick-a-ton, side knobs, a metal heat sink, trigger tip and ring, and paint my light caps the correct colors. i used bobamatt’s decals on this thrower. they came out really nice. i will be using namebrands on my next thrower. i hope my next one comes out a little cleaner. this one isnt trash by any means, but its not perfect either. i just have a couple issues with the gun body itself, and my welds. once i get finished up, i will bolt the bottom plate on along with my aluminum track and all will be finished!!!

Really amazing work Jimbo congrats on a beautiful aluminum thrower.
Chris
Amazing to see that the MIG worked for you.. Mine still refuses to weld aluminum. ![]()
Not to shabby! ![]()
fantastic work! cant wait to see it complete ![]()
Simply Amazing Jim! Summer seems to have gotten in the way of my build. I need to kick my butt in gear. The one part i am having a hard time getting right is the bottom gun rail. Just can’t come up with a good method without a mill… ![]()
I agree, it sucks not having access to the right tools.
