To be honest, the Apatow group brought back the rated R comedy, something that Reitman, Ramis, Murray, and Aykroyd were doing in the 80’s. Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Animal House, Trading Places, and etc, all had drugs, alcohol, and sex references and jokes scattered through out them. In the Stripes (Unrated Extended Cut), there’s a scene where Murray and Ramis get high before they go to sign up for the Army. Hell, Ghostbusters was filled with sexual innuendos.

If Aykroyd really wants to pass the torch in a new movie, there is only one group of comedians that I think it would work. The Apatow group reminds me more of the 80’s SNL/SCTV group then any other group of comedians out there today. As long as it’s Ghostbusters 3, an Apatow Production; and not Judd Apatow’s: Ghostbusters, I think it could be done.

I mean, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Sony just went through all the trouble to make Ghostbusters: The Videogame as authentic as possible. Why would they do that then turn right around and have ANYONE destroy the franchise (this goes for the writers from the Office, and the Apatow Group). As long as it has Aykroyd’s stamp of approval, I will watch it.

From what I understand, Production Weekly advertises movies planned to go into production so that potential crew/techies know where the jobs are and how to apply - kind of like the technical theatre equivilent of Variety/The Stage. If this is indeed the case, we should hear some kind of official word soon. After all, why advertise potential jobs for no film.

My bet is that things are starting to shape up quite quickly now, which would be just as well if Ackroyd is hoping for an Autumn shoot.

Agreed…however, I’m remembering another movie sequel that got Dan’s stamp of approval and turned out to be a total turd…what was it called? Oh ya, “Blues Bros. 2000” :sigh: . Hopefully he’s learned from his mistakes. :cool:

Yeah, definitely some gun jumping on Apatow & co. hate. And just because they are known for certain movie roles doesn’t mean they can’t adapt to whatever GB3 would ask of them. Just because Rogen gets cast doesn’t mean we’ll have a pot smoking GB. When Heath Ledger was cast, everyone complained that they didn’t want a gay Joker and made more “Brokebat Gotham” jokes than you could shake a stick at, but look how that turned out! I know that is probably a way over used example, but what it boils down to is that the job of an actor is to ADAPT. I wonder if people made jokes about one of the GBs running around in sunglasses singing when they heard what Dan’s “new project” back then was. Right off the bat Rogen has already shown apprehension toward being a new GB, due to everyone trying to cash in on hot 80s properties, which should show you that at least he has a degree of respect for the material, as it seems most of those guys do. Hopefully, these not so awesome story elements being leaked are just preliminary draft stumbling blocks that will be an easy fix by Harold and Dan. Hopefully, positive reviews on the story of the game and Dan and Harold’s influence on that will also help the studio to be more open to having TONS of input from them when Dan gets his hands on the draft this summer.

If we stuck to “only actors who have played those kinds of roles before should play those roles”, we’d never have gotten Heath’s Joker, Chris Reeve’s Superman, Christian Bale’s Batman (or for that matter, Keaton’s Batman if you liked those films), Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (he was a broadway musical guy!), and other such fantastic actor/character match-ups. This isn’t even that much of a stretch for the actors whose names are being thrown around, as they already do comedy!

Just keep the faith dudes (and dudettes). Stay positive. If all else fails, we already know they are thinking about more video game sequels.

Yup. Low expectations, but high hopes. My guess is it’ll come off better than Indy IV, but not as good as Dark Knight.

I guess I’m expecting a Spiderman 3. Lots of flash, plenty of good stuff, but no real soulful cohesion of cast.

But I haven’t seen the film. It could be the funniest, awesomest movie ever made.

Low expectations, high hopes.

Just be chill and enjoy what you get. Hell, any chance at all to see Bill Murray on screen. :slight_smile: Lets hope they all keep tickin’ long enough. :-p

While some might call this doom and gloom, on a lighter note, isnt this the first time someone from Sony/Columbia has officially said that a script is being developed? The head honcho at that!

And its good to hear that he’s aware of the huge internet buzz surrounding the potential third movie!

i thinked about a plot that could mix together the GB2-style comeback rumored, the Next Generation route and Hellbent…

The Ghostbusters are still active, but they are not ghostbusting anymore because from 1995 circa supernatural problems vanished. they are now New York City’s paranormal advisers…they have their own office in the Town Hall and they keep investigating in supposedly haunted places…only to find out that there is nothing paranormal at all.

At one point something strange start appearing in the neighborhood, something BIG.

The GBs use their old equipment and start bustin’ clandestinely until someone caught them in the middle of a very messed up bust. They find out two things: a) the packs are semi-ineffective with ghosts because…these are DEMONS. and b) they are too old to reprise this kind of job.

So they speak with the major that let the fab four reopen the Firehouse and update the equipment (UPDATE, not rebuilt) and at the same time they search new recruits.

Old and new GBs team together to defeat this new paranormal plague (Lucifer).

what do you think?

Hmm…bassic and very to the point. It has a semi related plot of GB2 of making a come back into the business but still have them doing Ghostbuster related work in the feild. All in all I could see this idea working and having a good review. Anyone else?

This is actually something I’ve thought about alot. Here’s my idea I came up with not too long ago:

I thought it’d be cool to let the newer GBs shine for alot of the movie, but let the originals have the last big take down of their careers. Plus, since Winston seems like the “hands on” guy of the team, if they went the TV series route, Winston could pop up every now and then in each series to make sure the respective offices were functioning properly and to do training and inspection, so on. Maybe even Ray could do a cameo or 2.

TBH, I never liked the going to hell idea THAT much. Yeah, it’d be an ok story, but you’d have to be very careful about the ending. If they “bust the devil” I’d almost expect God to reach down and say “thanks for the help guys!” I’d like to see more of a concentration on ghosts that can be worn down and trapped rather than demons. They are first and foremost “GHOSTbusters”, and although they’ve become sort of “the guys that deal with weird stuff”, I’d like to see their (possibly) last film remind us of why we came to know them in the first place. Fighting Satan seems a little hamfisted, and I think it’d be cool to see them come up with a crazy plan to try and trap whtever it is they’re fighting. Afterward, one of the newbies wonders if they just put a dent in their job security and then someone else says “nah, as long as bad people keep dying, we’ve got a job to do” (or something like that?). End with a montage of GB inc running smoothly with the original Ray Parker Jr. version of the song playing (save a remix for the mid-movie montage of the newbies investigating just what is going on).

*That’s not actually bad Jack!! Out of all the horrible “possible GB3 scenarios” I ever had the displeasure of reading over these many years, I actually LIKE yours!!

It might be quite interesting as an opening, given their current popularity, to have a “Most Haunted” style spook reality show, which is usually blatently made up of hoaxes (as is rumoured for those shows) stumbling upon a spooky encounter that is actually occuring, and genuinely frightening the ■■■■■ out of its presenters and crew.

Just a thought, but at least its current and original hehe

Thanks very much guys! I’m especially honored by what you said, Ectofiend, being one of the guys who’s been here a long time, I can imagine how many “here’s what I’d do” ideas you’ve sat through!

I have a couple other smaller ideas for different parts of the movie, including a nifty opening, but I’m at school now and I have them written down somewhere at home. I’ll post them later, but no garauntee it will be today, as I have a ticket for Watchmen at midnight that is burning a whole in my back pocket!
