Best way to weather a Proton Pack

Hi all,

Im getting a pack sorted now,

But my question is this what is the best way to make it look used and a little worn.

Thanks

Do a search, there’s been plenty of topics on weathering and recently quite a few posts with pics. Nic-a-tron, Hooker and Solidgoldcaddy to name a few

It has to be one of the best ways.

^ That’s great for a dust weathering job.

I also take a paint brush and spray some chrome spray paint onto the brush, and then lightly brush some of the edges of the pack to give the effect of some metal being exposed.

Don’t over do it though.

Rub & Buff can be miraculous, but ONLY when used very, VERY sparingly.

It’s quick and can be highly effective, but do NOT attempt without asking someone about proper application technique. I’ll post some pics of potential results when I get a chance…

I agree.

Rub & Buff is like pure weathering magic when done right.

I heard using a dry paint brush works, and then just paint it on where ever

Out here, even sitting in your home, your pack gets a nice coating of sand and dirt that doesn’t like to come off. This is a picture of our member Neal’s pack the cleanest it’s ever been.

Yep, nothing beats the look of real dust. Every screen used pack that has been photographed ( post 1989) has a degree of dust on them.

Even the screen used pack at Sony Studios has a nice layer of vintage dust…

I’m partial to using Testor’s Aluminum (not Silver because it dries differently) paint, and either a small sponge brush or a small dry paint brush; and then go over the edges.

when I was younger I used to build models alot, mostly WWII fighters and bombers. I ALWAYS weathered them with a little dirt from the yard and Testor’s aluminum model paint for paint chips/wear and around bullet holes and I also used black acrylic watered down and sprayed on with a straw to simulate exhaust and oil leakage. I used aluminum color paint because when the silver paint dries it looks too shiny, it doesn’t look like “used/ weatherbeaten” metal.

I’ve never heard of fuller’s earth, sounds like I’ll have to give that a try when my pack is done. I’m not gonna go heavy on the dust, just enough to look like it’s used frequently and cleaned rarely.

I read on here somewhere that a silver/aluminum paint pen works well too.
