I had intended to add this to the prop section, but I can’t seem to get it to work, so, in the mean time, I figured I’d post it here.
Last year, for MomoCon (a con in Atlanta), I decided to do Extreme Ghostbusters Egon. It was both a tribute to Harold Ramis, as well as because Maurice LeMarche was a guest at said convention. The build took about a month from start to finish. Originally, I had planned to use Irricanian’s EGB pack plans, but I decided they just weren’t suited to what I wanted with the pack. I did realize I made a blunder when I based the size on the film packs, not realizing that the EGB packs were significantly smaller. That will be corrected eventually. I think the thrower’s still pretty on point, although I may have to cut some of the pipes down to fit the smaller pack. It does lack some details that I sacrificed for the sake of time, but will be added eventually, along with a sound system.
The straps I used are Deuter VQ Shoulder Straps. They were relatively inexpensive, comfortable, and matched fairly closely to what we see on screen. I bolted some strap adjusters from a pair of ALICE straps to the motherboard to secure the straps in place, which has worked great. I also have some ideas for the canister feed mechanism, but I’m going to wait until I see if it actually works before I post anything. Don’t want anyone besides me wasting money on it. lol
Also, the thrower attaches to the pack using a cut down PVC pipe connector that I bolted to the side of the pack. As near as I can tell from the production sketches, this is exactly how they attached in the show. The angled connector on the thrower slips into the connector, and actually stays in fairly securely. I’ve not had it fall out yet, anyway, which is more than I can say for my experience with V-hooks.
That’s a good lookin pack! I wish I had some skill I’d build one! I’ve always loved the cartoon packs from both shows!

Thanks guys. One thing I definitely want to do when I revamp this pack is make it lighter! It weighs a ton in it’s current form.
I never thought about using pvc for the curves!
You may wanto build a frama for it though. Cheapest would be some pvc pipe fitted together.

It’s actually not too bad, to be honest. I wore it for about 4 hours straight at a con last year, and had very minimal discomfort. The straps are really well padded, and the weight’s pretty well distributed as it is. The only discomfort I really had was from the fact that it weighs about 60 lbs. When I revamp it, I do plan to add a “frame” of sorts. Pretty much replicating the look of the show pack as closely as I can. It should also be considerably lighter, as I’ll be using foam core PVC for all of the canisters, which is where most of the weight came from.
And, yeah, the PVC for the curves was out of necessity. Originally I’d planned to do supports, and wrap it in styrene, but I couldn’t get them to work how I wanted. So I went to Home Depot and bought some 3" pipe couplers, if memory serves, which gave me the 4" OD I needed for that bottom section. The top curve is actually just a wooden dowel with a chunk cut out of it. I used the same dowel for the bottom of the thrower strut that attaches the injector and access box (or whatever you want to call them)
Lookin good! Working on an EGB pack from Irricanian’s plans myself. After seeing yours, I wish I had downsized a bit…becoming quite a beast. Oh well, I’m a big guy, and even scaled movie packs look small on me.

The size was one of those things that I didn’t really see until it was finished and I put it on. lol Once you put the rail system in place it will REALLY bulk it up quite a bit, which I also didn’t take into account. One thing I’ll be sad about when I add the rails is that it currently sits flat on the ground, so I can stand it up without worrying about it tipping. That won’t be doable with the rail on it, though. Ah well.
