Dan Aykroyd in Nashua NH, Feb 24

from protoncharging

anyone here going to this? I would love to, except I have to work - and they dont say what time he’ll be there - if anyone goes, please take pics! I wonder how many people will actually be there for wine related purposes, and how many will be there because theyre fanboys…

I’d love to go. But I’d feel awkward about going and not being able to afford his wine, lol. Since that’s the whole reason he’s there. Sighs

By the way it say’s he’ll be there from 3:30 till 6pm

oh yeah, I didnt notice the little box on the website before - i guess I could work until 4 and still have time to drive over there - any fans wanna meet up?

unfortunately the only thing I have that he could sign is my Ghostbusters 1 & 2 SE dvd, unless I buy a bottle of his wine too

I wonder if fans will be able to get their picture taken with him?

That’s the same thing with me. Only have the dvds to sign. Id love to buy his wine but I’m broke.

I’ll be there with my Ecto-HHR to have singed. hope to see some of you guys there

Why don’t you guys do the poor man a favor and not show up. We all would love to meet the guy, sure, but let him have an event that he wants to have without turning it into some big Ghostbusters nerd fest. The man is promoting his wine, then go and enjoy his vintage.

I doubt he loves being bothered all the time about Ghostbusters, when he has a Ghostbusters promotional THEN go and bring your suits and geek it up. Other than that, don’t you think bringing you custom Ecto-1 is kind of trying to over shadow what he’s trying to do?

If he didn’t want fan boys to come and get him to sign something related to his movie then he should never have become an actor.

That’s what you get for being in an iconic movie like ghostbusters, you’ll never be left alone

I hope you’re joking.

I’m not, if that’s what your asking. I mean I’m not going cause I’d feel weird going without buying his wine, But I’d still ask him to sign something ghostbusters.

But about what Dan said makes no sense to me. He was in an iconic film’s like ghostbusters, blues brothers and such so of course people are forever gonna go to him whenever they can to get signatures and stuff like that. That’s what happens when your in hollywood.

It’s impolite, it’s arrogant, and it casts an AWFUL light on real fans (Ghostheads) as rabid losers who will bite at any chance to get a signature.

Through his wine website you might be able to ask them if you could set a meet n greet with him towards the end of the event as to not interrupt or take away from his wine event. They seem to have a decent response time from when I’ve asked them general questions. I’m sure he’d love to see your car, but don’t pull a Kool-Aid man and bust through the wall with it.

I know when I meet a celebrity I usually talk with them about eveyrthing except what they’re known the most for, then after awhile I’ll pop maybe one really deep question about their major role and get a pretty insightful answer I really didn’t expect. I’m sure Nimoy has been asked the PH balance of the soil on Vulcan more than enough times but does anybody actually ask him how he’s doing?

Very very good advice.

I once had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Hudson over the phone, spoke to him for a good thirty minutes about his upcomming projects, shared some stories about a friend of his I was working with and mostly just talked shop. Toward the end of the conversation I asked him about what he thought about the role of Winston initially and we got into a conversation about racism in the industry. I thanked him kindly for the opportunity to talk to him and thanked him for his work on Ghostbusters and his dedication to the fans. He politely thanked me for my time and we extanged addresses. It was a fantastic conversation.

Treat them like people, not tourist attractions.

I agree heartfully with you jettajeffro But when it comes down to actual people most of the time you will get the simple equation of (Me + hero = autograph) they don’t see it as an invasion cause the characters they played are seen as their friends.

I know it spells out that creepy annoying fan stereotype that a lot of people get but it happens in hollywood everywhere. It’s a fact that will most likely never go away, hence my statement earlier that if they don’t want to be bothered eith it the only thing they can do is not get into acting in the first place.

I gotta be honest, what you’re saying is absolutely inane. You’re saying that it’s the actor’s fault for unwanted attention because they stared in a movie that came out 25 years ago?

It’s like saying the woman should be raped because she chose to wear a short skirt except that she wore said short skirt 25 years ago and is just trying to buy a hot dog now.

No that’s not what Im saying and anyways give me one example of how that is true? In hollywood it doesn’t matter if the movie came out 25 years ago or yesterday, it’s gonna be seen forever (unless it’s the star wars christmas special then it might be destroyed, lol). So either way people see it or have watched the movie for 25 years or so and it never get’s old, they will always see the characters through the faces of the actors.

It’s not the same thing as a girl in a mini skirt getting raped. It would be the same thing as a girl in a mini skirt getting hounded every time she ISN’T getting a mini skirt. The girl being raped is on par with killing the actor for not being in a new movie.

Your intitled to your opinion I’m not attaacking what you said it’s just that you know how people are (Not attacking anyone here) but people don’t care and don’t see what your talking about. Also how’d we get into a discussion about ■■■■? I’m confused?

you have to admit it, she was totally asking to be raped when she said “I need a big juicy hot dog” - that tramp!

while I do plan on driving 2 hours to Nashua NH to meet and get a photo with Mr Aykroyd while purchasing a bottle of his fine wine (I’d also like to get my GB1&2 dvd signed, and perhaps give him a framed version of the poster below as a gift, but I’m even hesitant to do that) I would highly advise against driving your car their for him to see or autograph - there’s being a polite fanboy, and there’s being a crazy person “scuse me Dan can you sign my car and put this proton pack on and let me take your picture also can i have some of your hair?”

However, dont you think he expects to see fans there? especially with the anniversary of the GB franchise and all the GB-related things that are happening this year and that he is involved with? it’s not like he made the film 25 years ago and that was his last involvement with it - I imagine that he knows there’s going to be a good possibility of fans of his work showing up, and not just wine enthusiasts. But there are polite ways to show your appreciation of the man and his work - the event is to promote his line of wines, therefore I will be purchasing a bottle of his wine. But since this is probably most likely the only chance I’ll ever get to meet Dan-frigging-Aykroyd, I’m going to go for it - Im even taking jettajeffro’s advice and emailing his PR (got the address from Dans wine website) and asking if its going to be possible for fans to approach him, here’s what I wrote:

*hello there - I’m writing in regards to Dan Aykroyds appearance at the Nashua NH Liquor and Wine Outlet on Tuesday Feb. 24th - I understand that this event is to promote his line of wines (of which I will be purchasing) but I was wondering would it be at all possible for fans of his non-wine related work (Ghostbusters, etc) to meet him and possibly get photos with him or one or 2 items autographed? and if so would fans be able to approach him at any time during the event, or would there be a designated time after the event that he would speak to fans? I also have a framed 11x17 “Ghostbusters”-themed poster that I designed that I would like to offer him as a gift of appreciation for his involvement in the film and its franchise and for my appreciation of his work - if you could get back to me as soon as possible in regards to this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. You can email me back, or I can be reached via cell-phone at 1-■■■-■■■-XXXX. Thank you so much for your time and I anticipate your response.

sincerely, Joseph H. Roberts

Sounds good Joel. I hope you hear from them before the event. I’ve always heard Dan has been very open to GB fans, even at these events, but most have met him out of gear.

Best of luck to everyone to gets to meet him and get plenty of pics.

okay everyone, I have some actual good news! I received a quick (about 2 hours) response from the PR that I emailed in regards to Dans NH appearance:

so there you have it! FunkPunkTwang, I would strongly advise against bringing your car (personally I wouldn’t recommend anyone showing up in costume either, but to each his own) but it sounds like he’s cool with signing a couple things and posing for a photo - after reading a few negative reactions by some of the members here earlier I was feeling bad, almost to the point where I wasn’t going to even go - but after reading the response from his rep, I am again looking forward to going!

Thats what I’ll be having signed. My dash.

Did I say I was going in full gear? No.

Did I say I was peeling in with lights on and siren rolling? No.

Did I say I wanted him to jump in my car for a ride? No.

Try on my pack? No.

Will my car be there? Yes.

Will I tell him about my car? Yes.

Am I even bringing Ghostbusters related things to have him sign? Yes. an 8x10 that Ernie Hudson already signed.

Am I buying any wine? 4 (four) bottles.

Am I buying any vodka? 4 (four) bottles. (as long as he has it there)

Am I even having those signed? Maybe 1 (one) of each. Maybe.

I’m trying to keep my cool while typing this but it’s really ■■■■■■■ me off. Dan AKA and I already talked about this and he understands what going on.

We’ve talked about his at length in the Chatroom a few nights ago. It is in very bad taste to go up to a person signing autographs for a new project and all you do is bring up something they did 25 years ago. Actors like to think that their current projects are worth putting their time and money into.

Its like Bill Murray doing movies like Rushmore, Royal Tannebaums, Lost in Translation, and Life Aquatic, and then having people not care and just ask about Ghostbusters.

Won’t he be like… I didn’t play the black guy.

EDIT:

I thought you said an 8x10 of Ernie Hudson…
