Looking to get the elbow pads for the costume. Any ideas?
Search eBay, there are some defender pads being sold there
Here’s the link.
Just bought myself a pair! Happy buying! ![]()
My pair arrived today.
I still need to get some elbow pads. Unfortunately I cant find any around here. Not like those in the picture. I have checked ebay but I have no idea what size I should order and if I order the black ones I think it will be harder te get them grey then the white ones.
You’ll almost certainly have to buy white ones and dye them, but it’s actually surprisingly easy. I used good old pearl gray RIT dye in boiling water on my Defenders and they came out just fine. I would recommend buying at least medium, more likely a large. You’d think, being knee pads, that they would be plenty large for your elbows, but they are actually quite snug. Trimming excess material off mine and stretching them out around a two-liter for a couple of days helped, but I still wish I’d gotten a large set…
Yeah, definitely get Large if you can find them. Volleyball knee pads are made to be tight, so they say on during movement, but like Dr.S said just stretch them over a 2 ltr bottle to get them a little looser if need be.
Large size 3-piece elbow pads are the screen accurate size and fit perfectly snug without being too tight.
Medium and small have the same bubble size which is smaller than large, and inaccurate to the screen.
typj on eBay is out of the Defender’s in large white, but you can buy similar ones on cannonsports.com and karatedepot.com
I recommend the ones from the karate depot as they do not have the hole on the inner elbow like the ones from cannon sports do
Could the black ones not be colored to be the correct color with color remover or something? Because I am really struggling on these pads. I’m even thinking of getting those karatedepot.com ones. but I’m not sure if the 3-part piece is big enough then. Would love some help with this because it’s the only thing that I still need for my costume.
No they can’t. I’ve tried it twice now. I bleeched my pair three times one day, and there was abosultely no change. I tried to dye them in the grey mix when I did my uniform, and again, no change.
I managed to score a very inexpensive pair of elbow-pads from eBay. The kicker? They were used briefly in Afganistan by a soldier and were described as being very good for “firing in a prone position” :vinzclortho:
They still have their former owner’s name written on the inside but the extra scuff-marks and worn look are perfect!
My knee-pads are skateboard pads, but the black parts match and the knee-pads have a khaki-colored under-padding that matches my flightsuit exceptionally.
I lucked out huge with this project.
Please ignore the dorky pose, the photos were quick and dirty.
Use paint, you can’t dye darker colours lighter without specialist chemicals. Give them several light coats of grey primer and they will look sweet. Dyed elbow pads look ■■■■ anyway (patchy grey/white elastic parts with a giant white bubble. I dont know why people would even want that look??!?!)

Like I said in my past right ABOVE yours, get the ones from karatedepot. after trimming and dying they look perfect AND are the correct, screen-accurate size. They have a small latex-like Century logo that is easily removed with a razor blade.
You know the GB’s dont wear knee pads on their knees… Right?

When I made my pads, I started with a pair of white pads, and used fabric paint to make them charcoal gray. I don’t see why such paint could not be used to lighten up a set of black pads if that’s what you want to do. Fabric paint will work just as well as a dye. It doesn’t dry hard, it doesn’t change the texture of the surface, and its matte in appearance.
That said… after I painted my pads they looekd great, but after washing them and then applying fuller’s earth, they lightened up significantly. As a result, I now feel that I should have used black fabric paint in the first place, in order to get the final well-used charcoal color I was going for. But that’s okay. Repainting and reweathering them will be simple enough.
If you’re starting with black pads though, I would forego the paint and just try applying a good dusting of fuller’s earth and see how you like the color. Then maybe if it’s not light enough for you, apply some charcoal fabric paint. But I suspect the fuller’s earth will be enough.
Not to hijack, but where would I get this fuller’s earth??
I hear you can get it at a place called Todd’s Costumes.
Google them
Sorry, I read your post, but I wasnt sure if they where accurate. I’m actually planning on buying a pair of those though so thank you for the tip ![]()
I crave symmetry.
