Exoray's Sound Kit Support Thread

for some reason my kit wont push out any sound…the sd card has the files, and the green light on the board lights up when it supposed to be making noise, but nothing comes out..can someone post a pic of their 1/8 inch plug as its plugged into the board, im assuming they are all the same length, but i want to make sure its making the correct connection.

thanks

jim

Jim, did you get a stereo or mono plug? A mono will have just the two wires as where a stereo should have 4 for left and right channels. You can also pull the jack in and out of the female end on the board a little bit to play with it as that can sometimes be the culprit although I plugged mine right in and had no problem. Also, test your speaker, sometimes a speaker if just pulled out of something or lying around could be bad. And reloading the sounds wouldn’t hurt and…make sure your other exoray boards are plugged in and turned on in the appropriate order. I found that for me this was critical in having everything play right. Hope this helps, if not email me or PM me and i’m more then happy to try to help. I’m in the same boat right now with getting this thing in my pack and mounted.

thats GOTTA be my problem…it must be a stereo plug, since it has 2 wires in each lead..shit…is there any way to get around this problem? or do i just have to go out and get a mono plug?

thanks flux

Is the heat sink getting warm? If the green light is pulsing when a track is supposed to be playing and the heat sink is getting warm then it probably is a problem with the plug… Did you by chance use a stereo plug or is it the one I included?

As I have said before all units were tested prior to shipping so I know they worked when leaving…

  • Edit I see you have a stereo plug, yes it will still work…

Now your stereo jack should have 3 connections or 4 wires…

If you have 4 wires, usually the ground is/are bare wires surrounding the signal wire this will be common on both wire pairs… They are normally a shield you want choose these as one speaker hookup, then if you have a red and white or black and white or whatever wire they should be tied together or you can locate the left channel side and use that, as the other needed wire…

If you have a stereo jack you are wiring up, then the very tip, that will be a the one leg and the common or gnd will be the other…

This diagram shows it well…

im sure its the plug exoray, i had a preorder kit and it didnt come with one. So, i just robbed some headphones from my wife and stripped the ends..each end has two very small wires inside the insulation. im assuming that its a stereo plug and not mono..i didnt know the difference till now..

jim

well, it looks like im gonna have to wait till tomorrow and get a new plug, i took the other plug apart and its not going back together haha. ill just go and get a mono plug tomorrow. although its weird that when i hold the fire button and the green led lights up, the heat sink never gets warm…i dont know..im not gonna jump to any conclusions yet..

Well hey Flynn, thanks again bud. Got it and got it working. Intergrating it is another story but not your fault lol. I have a weird prob i’ll have to talk with ya later about but I got around it for now. Gonna take a video here and see if I can’t get it posted with the sounds working hooked up to the gun and all.

If i’m right you can twist the L channel and R channel of each together and get mono. Or you can play with the leads till you find the two that it wants to send the sound to the speaker through. My terminology lacking it should work.

This is strange and I can’t really explain it or diagnose it very easily online…

As for the sounds the same switch that turns on the pack and bargraph should activate the powerup sound not the one that turns on the grill lights…

Also be sure to turn the sound kit on first, turning on the gun kit first will result in odd issues…

The whole bargraph issue has me wondering why, it might require you sending back the light kit at a later date for me to look over because I’m at a lose why it’s freezing…

Let me know if you get it working or get some of it working better and we can work from there, as always I stand behind what I sell so we will get it working it just might take some time…

Look at my edited post, that is basically one option or use the left channel side only..

One the light Bar graph, I had a problem with mine. Because of the tight fit inside my gun box the black clip that helps hold the bar graph leads to the ribbon cable became loose, which only made the first 4 lights come on. I would check the connection there; maybe you move the ribbon cable when plugging in the sound jack.

OK, heres what i was able to come up with. As long as i start the pack lights first, then the gun the sounds will function properly. BUT, if i power the gun down and leave the pack lights on, when i power the gun back on, the bottom led is the only one that lights up for 15 to 16 seconds, then the bar graph will start like normal…firing the gun will not get the bar graph to start up either, it will take 15 - 16 seconds regardless.

if the bar graph is stuck on the bottom led, the only way to get it to start like normal (with out waiting 15-16 seconds) is to turn the pack lights on and off.

flynn, i think you will have to take a look at mine after the season. hopefully we can determine why this is happening.

oh and why does it play the firing sound and bug out if you start the gun first? were there instructions that the pack needed to be turned on first (if so i must have missed them).

-g

i havent had any problems and i took pictures of the mounting of them… here they are…if anybody needs any help just let me know…its tricky because of space constraints especially when you have the light kits…

:whatever:

Flynn, I have a question, can we swap the momentary switch out for a toggle on/off switch? This would allow for hands free theme playing and such, let me know. Thanks

You have to hold the switch in to keep playing the theme? I thought someone mentioned that when they pushed the button the theme played till they turned off the pack and couldn’t be interrupted.

Anyway, if it is the case that it plays only while held down, I guess he did that with the intention that you use a toggle switch for those custom sounds you want to play continuously. So I’m sure you could swap it.

Though, I didn’t even know he provided any momentary switches for playing custom sounds like the theme song… I thought you had to provide your own switches for custom sounds.

Yeah, there are non provided, I was just wondering if it was possible. I didnt get a chance to test my kit yet, so I couldnt even say what does what. Thanks though

has anyone had issues with having nothing but feeback coming from their speakers? ive tested it on two brand new speakers and both give the same effect..the sd card has sound files on them, and when a sound is activated it just gives me a chattering feedback effect. so if anyone has any advice im all ears.

thanks

jim

Like it has been said stereo plugs work fine, just make sure you get the wire hooked up with actually goes to the tip of the plug. The jack on the board only makes contact with the tip(the L channel), and the common/ground. I can vouch for it because I’m using a stereo plug in my testing because it’s what I had handy.

A cheap multimeter with a continuity tester would make sorting whats what with your wire **real **easy.

Jim, you might try adjusting the volume down. The chattering might be a sign the volume is too high and the speaker is cutting out.

I’m not getting nothing but feedback in my testing, but I am getting a feedback hum from the speakers I tried testing with. I tried a couple different speakers(one 4 ohm and the other 8 ohm) but they all get a bit of a feedback hum.

Initially when testing the benchtop power supply I used caused feedback with the speaker. But I tried testing with batteries and I still am getting a bit of a hum from the speaker(a whole lot less than what was heard with the benchtop supply). The speaker hum is heard as soon as the sound board is powered on and is heard regardless of wether the gun light board is even hooked to the sound board. Voume isn’t the issue because if I turn that any lower it actually cuts out any sounds being played and all I get is a speaker hum. If I turn the volume up the sounds are of course louder which helps to mask the hum while the FX are playing. Is anyone else is hearing this as well?

I’m fairly certain the power ratings on the speakers I tested with should be more than appropriate, but now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t pick up something a little beefier.

LOL i would not call that a space constraint…NOW trying to squeeze lights/sound in a scratch pack is tricky…ill post pics tonight to show you how easy you got it :stuck_out_tongue:

haha

its strange since i hooked it up on a 6x9 and a regular 4 inch speaker, both brand new. They both provide horrible feedback regardless of volume..When i play a sound its just a screeching noise that chatters…im running out of options and dont understand why i cant get the sound through the speaker?? :sigh:
