Whats the difference between the GB1 and GB2 ribbon cable? I have been looking at the reference photos and cant see any difference but I’m guessing there is one because the cable listed in the known parts has (GB2) next to it.
And this being my first post I just wanna thank all the people that answer questions on this forum, I’ve found alot of helpful information here.
this inst an exact gb1 cable but its the closest you’re gonna get. it hasnt been replicated or found yet.
this is gb2. notice the subtile difference. gb2 has a different sheen but more noticeably twists
The pic of Monstermosh’s cable looks like it doesn’t have any braids at all. Isn’t it supposed to have at least some braiding, or was the GB1 cable just a straight ribbon cable (ie, no braiding as there is on the GB2 cable)?
The GB1 cable was straight since it appears to have been a wiring harness of some sort, judging from the thickness and color of the wires. Doesn’t someone on Proptopia make custom GB1 ribbon cables now?

Are you sure? I know namebrand said something about ordering some custom cable from a real manufacturer but the minimum order would’ve been insane. Seems like i recall reading a thread where HotShotDraw offered a pair of ecto goggles to anyone who could find the cable, but in the end he found a way to make it himself and had posted an interest thread for orders. I think the thread had “I DID IT!!!” in the title after he figured out how to make them. I never post on Proptopia and only stop in from time to time to read a few things, so the bottom could’ve fallen out of this project as well.
I believe the GB2 wire is suppossed to be 60 wire (30 braided pair) cable. How many wires were in the GB1 cable, or do we know that much?
Thanks for the replies. I can now say I know the difference between the GB1 and GB2 ribbon cables. After getting a good look at the GB1 cable I have to say I prefer it over the GB2 cable. I’m gonna look into gathering the different color wires and see if I can come up with something that looks close. Thanks again for the info.
I’ve had a bear of a time doing this, built am very lose to a “Norm” stlye tutorial.
The closest thing I’ve found was airplane cockpit wiring for large milatary planes.
Think audio cable for the cockpit dash.
We’re trying to get the different colored ribbon wire (the 6-4-6 bundles) and then encase it in some clear pvc sleeves.
right now I’m doing a cluster fu*& wire by wire job heat shrunk in clear scrap book plastic.

I think propfan sells the ribbon cable, also on ebay;seller monstermosh. I’ve looked everywhere locally and have found nothing. 
Right on! Any chance this tutorial will see the light of day before Halloween? Not trying to sound pushy or anything, but it would be…y’know…kinda cool and all… 
Propfan sells ribbon cable, but it’s GB2 style. The GB1 style is very different (not quite sure which I prefer). Monstermosh sells a cable too (on ebay), but to me it just looks like GB2 style without the braiding.
