You know those cans of silly string? why not put them in the slime blower gun i can see that theres more than enough room. I was thinking about putting one in my proton pack for kicks for the proton pack id need to buy a smaller canister for this but id certainly be very cool.
I’ve thought of that too. The only problem is, most silly string cans shoot out of the side of the nozzle. I’m sure you could fabricate one to shoot straight though.
Some of the refill cans for toys (the Spiderman web slinger comes to mind) shoot straight. The problem with that is, once the popularity of Spiderman (or whatever movie toy it happens to be) wears off, it will be hard to find refill cans. Maybe the nozzles could be pulled off and reused on other cans?

One idea I have is to have it shoot water. Put the LED next to where it shoots the water and you will get a similar effect.
I am not sure how to make one to make it work though. I might use a water pump or something like that.
A couple summers ago (actually, I think it was more like summer of 2001), you could buy squirt guns (pump action) with an LED in the nozzle. They worked okay. The intensity of an LED is really directional. So when the stream of water was in direct line with the LED, it looked cool. But sense the stream of water from those types of squirt guns is arked, only a small portion of the stream looked really cool… It would probably work better if a guy could rig up multiple LEDs to the tip of the gun and put them as close to the stream as possible.
Correct. Every can of Silly String (or the generic equivalent) that I’ve ever seen has a nozzle that pops right off, exposing a plastic stem leading down into the can. If something could be rigged up to take advantage of that it could be incorporated into a pack or slime blower. I know for a fact that several people have built these in the past but I don’t think anyone has ever posted plans.
I modified the guns on the 3 packs that I made a couple of years ago to Norms plans to take a silly string cartridge. The frount end of the gun assembly was replaced with a ‘pump action’ arrangement. I’ll try and get some photo’s on to show you what I mean but the parts and what they did were as follows…

Thick walled carboard tube, same diameter and 1.25x longer than the can. I was lucky in being able to find some of this but you could make it from scratch.

8" x 1.5" dia thick walled persplex tube with a 1/4" thick plastic ‘plug’ glued in the bottom with a 1/4" hole in the middle. A bolt passes thru this and secures it to the frount of the gun housing.

Plywood ‘ring’ glued into the bottom of the carboard tube with a 1.5" hole in the middle. This allows the cardboard tube to fit onto the end of the perspex tube and slide up and down.

The office chairs at work can rise up and down on the center support and this has a soft plastic ‘ridged’ tube over it. I cut down one of these and glued it over the carboard tube to act as a grip when sliding the tube up and down the perspex tube.

Once glued in postion I cut out a 1/4" section along the length of the soft plastic ‘outer’ to expose the carboard underneath.

Next I glued a 8" x 1/4" dia lenght of aluminium rod to the cardboard and painted it black to match the soft plastic.

The frount end of the rod had been drilled and tapped to take a small bolt and spring washer.
8.Onto 2mm aluminium plate I drew a circle the diameter of the inside of the carboard tube, surrounded with a second circle about 1/22 bigger. Then, in line with the center of these circle’s, I marked were the hole for the center of the drilled rod would come and then drew a 1/2" circle around that. I then drew tangents from the outer circles to meet up top and bottom and when cut out had a sort of ‘tear drop’ shape.

In the center of the larger circles (ie in the center of the cardboard tube) I first drilled a hole the same diameter of the hole in the silly string ‘stub’ that is left when you take the nozzle off the can. I then used a bigger drill to ‘countersink’ this hole.

With the plate screwed to the aluminium rod via the small ‘offset’ hole in the plate, you simply swing the plate 180 deg to open up the cardboard tube, slide in a tube of silly string, swing the plate back so that the hole in the center of the ‘big’ circle is center to the carboard tube, slip the whole assembly onto the end of the persplex tube, gently slide back to engage the can ‘stub’ in the countersunk recess on the plate. Now all you have to do is slide back another 1/4" and the plate pushed the ‘stub’ and the string comes out of the fine hole in the middle.
It works really well. I improved the original design buy using thicker plate and drilling with 2 drills to have a stepped hole that the stub fits into better, attaching a length of wire to the outer carboard tube and the gun assembly so that the thing doesn’t fall off everywhere when there is no can in it.
I later added a micro switch that activated the ‘fire’ sound effects board so that the string and sound were in sync.
You get about 3 or 4 really good ‘shots’ before the pressure drops off, but I added belt loops to my belt and had a ‘stock’ of yellow painted cans always to hand to do a quick cartridge change.
One word of caution…silly string is flammable !
This we found out at a party with candles on on the tables…luckily nothing caught fire and nobody was hurt.

I suppose You could make a slime blower out of one of those plant food/insect killer (the terminology is escaping me) “sprayers” you know the ones that go on your back? well you could modify one of those… just a suggestion… ![]()
