I’m in the middle of building my 2 year old son a proton pack for Halloween. It isn’t going to be real movie accurate but it will get the job done I’ll try to post some pics if anyone is interested. I’m building it out of foam board and hot glue mainly, and I thought that if I could build the proton wand more like the game I could mount a can of silly string, green of course, to the side of the barrel, but I’m not sure about how I would make it fire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think a simple mechanism could be created to shoot the silly string out. if you take the spray nozzle off a can you’ll see a little tube sticking out of the can. if you press down on the tube sides ( trying not to cover the hole) it will spray. You could make the can sit horizontally inside the wand. Then rig up a device attached to the wand handle that will push and pull the can back and forth. You would then need some way to press down the can’s tube side while not covering the hole, some sort of plate with a hole just big enough to let string out but small enough to come in contact with the tube sides. That way when you push the handle forward the can comes in contact with this “plate” and causes silly string to shoot out. I hope that makes sense I can try and draw something up for you if it doesn’t.
If that sounds too complicated, try and get a hold of those spiderman toys that came out awhile ago. they were essentially silly string canister holders that the child would wear on their wrists. when they pressed down the palm pad with their fingers, it shot silly string. Might be worth hacking a set of those apart and incorporating them into the pack. I think they made a cool looking spiral effect too which would sort of emulate a proton stream

i am familiar with the spiderman web shooters( i use to have one), and i’m not sure how i would integrate it but I was originally thinking that the silly string could be the slime thrower canister on the side of the proton gun. since i cut the plans’ sizes in half there is no room for really anything inside the thrower. I think that a can of silly string would look almost the right size for the slime thrower in the game version of the pack though.

I’m currently thinking of mounting the can on the right side and making a wooden piece that slips over the barrel with an oval hole, and a hole big enough for the string can so when you push the wooden piece over it will push the tip of the string enough to make it shoot.
