What do you mean there’s no fan base. This site alone prooves that wrong. Also, every since the game came out I’ve seen my students with all types of ghostbusters stuff. T-shirts, folders, school bags. The kids love them.
I concur cardboard buster I don’t know what dude is talking about when he says there’s not a strong enough fan base.

There’s a limited fan base. The price drastically dropped in the first few months after release. I just don’t think there is enough fan money to justify another really well done game.
I think DLC may have kept the game alive among gamers, but right now there are very few gamers on multiplayer, and I’d guess all of them are members of gbfans.
This doesn’t mean that I’m not going to wish and dream for another game that steps it up a notch, but I won’t hold my breath.
And just to be fair, he said Ghostbusters didn’t have the fan base of Star Wars. Not that Ghostbusters didn’t have a fan base.
Ghostbusters has a fan base, a cult fan base. I loved Ghostbusters since the first time I saw it. Theres just not enough of a fan base for another game. Sales were poor and with in two months the game was on sale for twenty bucks. You also need to think about a story line people are gonna wanna play. Its just not there. This is a very large “Fan” site but sadly selling 15k to 20k copies of a game wont pass. GBtvg sold just over 500k copies I think. Thats a thin line for another game title.

Okay, you got me there.
On the gb:tvg wiki page it says the game some more than a million units by mid July 2009

Selling over a million copies doesn’t mean anything; you also need to realize how many people returned their copies in too.
Mario Kart for the DS released in 2006 - Still sells for $34.99 new, 29.99 used. They still PRODUCE it new.
Ghostbusters released in 2009 - Sells for $12.99 used. Not produced new anymore.
Listen to this guy!

I can guarantee you that the amount of games sold wasn’t enough to warrant a sequel. Last I had heard, we broke even on our version, and that was about a year and a half later.
Oh well. Dreamers can dream. Perhaps the gb fan base is more concerned with collectibles than things such as mainstream media. I mean even the game plot was centered around events from the first film, a lot of the nostalgia is from the original, there is no DEMAND for anything new. I guess the dude was right

I thought it was just a hair over 500k on Xbox. Thats the only console I test. Thanks for the sales break down.

Thanks for posting those numbers Skankerzero. I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts about the game. And I want to thank you for contributing to a really fantastic Ghostbusters video game. I am sorry it didn’t take off because I bet the DLC would have been fantastic for it. It’s still one of my favorite games.
I’m actually quite sick and tired of reading about how there will be jack done for this game because it didn’t make up the numbers in the long run. The studio set themselves up for failure if they thought that they were going to get a fan base that matched up to “Star Wars” (It’s not the first time that the comparrison has been drawn up, and) frankly it’s an obsurd insinuation that “Ghostbusters” could match it in popluarity. Isn’t it obvious? If the studio were so obsessed with numbers post release maybe they should have delved into the numbers when the game was being planned: Aren’t the differences obvious? “Star wars” is a Saga, Ghostbusters is a single movie with a sequle (reguarded on the whole as a flop), That simple fact alone makes me wonder if anyone quite had the scope to just not name it as they saw it; A love note to loyal fans.
Star Wars defined a generation as a sci fi classic, Ghostbusters is a comedy that spawned a cartoon, Toy line and merchendise, not a flop by any means but it died out by the early 1990’s. Star wars never left the public concience and has endured (no matter how many “Episode I” haters there are). It still to this day trudges out a new game or special that sells in the millions using the name alone, yes George Lucas messes about with it and whores it without fear of reprisals because he can. There is simply no basis for comparrison. I happen to be a huge fan of both, but even I can’t deny that there’s a screaming difference when it comes to popularity. The same goes with Mario, kinda, except that movie was panned by EVERYONE!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go open a resturaunt selling Shepherd’s pie right next door to a Pizza hut and get upset when my numbers don’t match up.
I’ll take it out on my loyal customers by changing to something similar to Pizza and shelving the shepherd’s pie, leaving it just out of the general eyeline but still there none the less- reguardless of how happy it’ll make them- and given it’s there it I could sell it to those that truely love it and it might make me some money, but ■■■■ 'em. Selfish Bastards only bought 1 a day, they should have had shepherd’s pie for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
I’m going to go punch a kitten now.
(P.P.P.S, The day that GB:TVG came out in the US, I went to my local inport Gameshop and purchased a copy. I then went to a local Curry’s and purchased my first XBox 360. Until then I had an Xbox and no reason to upgrade. I used all three of my free Xbox live months to play nothing but GB:TVG and loved it, getting to rank 20 each time and loving every second of it. I regret not buying 100 copies personally direct from the studio. I do however regret purchasing “Sanctum of Slime”…)
Parade level please!?
It’s kind of unfortunate how expensive it is to make a video game these days.
Alrighty here sonny. Lemme tell you 'bout them vidyer games.
Star Wars can produce games they way it can because GEORGE LUCAS OWNS HIS OWN DAMN VIDEO GAME COMPANY. Lucasfilm Games - Wikipedia
He doesn’t HAVE to pay to use the likenesses or rights or copyrights because he ALREADY OWNS THEM. Any other company who wishes to make a game using someone elses material has to pay for it; that’s where the dollar signs come into play. Not to mention Star Wars is a multi-billion dollar franchise so it HAS the funds to produce several games like this and pay other companies to do so!
Companies like Activision (Original creators of the GBTVG who then CANNED IT) and Atari need to get a LOT of money in order to produce a sequel otherwise how are they going to pay their workers? The copyright owners? The voice actors? They can’t if they don’t have the profit leftover after breaking even from the game’s release. If the game doesn’t sell to expectations they LOSE money - Look what happened to Big Huge Games, they released Kingdom’s of Amalur with a LOT of big names attached to it, the game flopped due to low sales, the company went under (it was their first game!) and it took the state of Rhode Island with it! (Due to a massive bank loan that’s now unpayable)
So sure people can bitch and moan all they want about not getting DLC or another Ghostbusters game, but when it comes right down to it - the sales weren’t impressive enough to warrant one. There’s no money for it and unless a game company wants to take a BIG CHANCE, nobody will pick it up.
tl;dr - There’s not going to be a sequel, the world is a pile of poop, video game companies are big meanies that like money. Deal with it.
See Some-Guy broke it down. Thats the answer!
MONEY MONEY MONEY
Man you guys just dont get it. Its like everything else, its about money. They dont care about making 10k little fat kids happy! They want to make 10 MILLION little fat kids happy then take all thier money.

Glad to see you got the jist of my lots and lots of words.
yup yup.
As others have said, it really doesn’t have anything to do with it’s comparison to Star Wars. It has everything to do with it making back the money it cost to make. As a matter of fact, most games and movies require selling 3 times their initial budget in order to be considered a ‘success’ by the people with the money. Most large publishers have a game title that sells soooooo much that it makes up for all the other games. Rockstar has GTA, Volition has Saints Row, EA has it’s sports games, Activision has CoD. Atari has nothing. So it’s in their best interest that every one of their games make back it’s money.
A sad thing about GB is that there are a lot of people involved with the license that take A LOT of money off the top. Namely all the Hollywood talent and movie studios. All that is taken off the top before the publisher or developer sees anything back from it. That just makes making back the budget that much more difficult.
As I said before, I heard about a year and a half later that our version of the game had just barely broke even. That’s not counting the other versions of the game. So it’s really hard to blame Atari for not producing a sequel to the full game. Hell, they didn’t even want to foot the bill for DLC, much less a full AAA budget again. Instead, they took a chance and produced the lower budget Sanctum of Slime. Love it or hate it, that was one of the only things they could afford to do with the GB license that they had to pay for the rights for.
You guys shouldn’t be upset about the lack of DLC. You guys got a good game. One that was almost cancelled several times, almost shipped without polish, and ran the risk of being cut up into fragments (ie take out levels and make them console exclusives) that we fought tooth and nail against in order to deliver the best, possible product we could produce with the assets we had.
tl;dr - Publishers waste a lot of money and that just screws developers and gamers over. You guys got a great game, and the time for DLC has passed. Let’s move on and look towards asking for a new game / movie, not dlc.
