Think NECA might regain the rights and finish off the GB series they started?
I think since the comic TMNT figures have hit, NECA is capable of delivering figures with multiple points of articulation and loads of accessories so it wouldn’t be a stretch of the imagination to see them doing at least three or four more waves of GB figures. I imagine coming equipped with at least a proton pack, PKE meter, and Ecto-Goggles would also help sell the line. And hey, they have two options to go with as far as a Build-A-Figure: A huuuuuuuge Stay Puft Marshmallow Man or Vigo the Carpathian. Maybe even the big bad at the end of the game, whoever that may be.
Also, off-topic: I can’t believe McFarlane never did pick up the GB license. Guess Todd lost the paperwork amidst his lawsuits and baseball cards.
I’m praying at least Neca realeases the rookie ghostbuster. That way we would have a Ghostbuster Figure fairly accurate and I think it would be easier to get that likeness issue sorted for a figure. Even if they don’t do another wave from Ghostbusters they could fit him in a wave just like they did when they released the guy from assasins creed.
and it would be good to have a definite face even if they offer character customization to help keep a canon concept of what the guy looks like (i remeber the annoying questions in Kotor and Kotor 2 when every one was looking for what the main character looks like)
that’s the biggest problem with character customization keeping the story canon (i was surprised when i learned the canon main for kotor 2 was a girl it just threw me off a bit) and if people don’t like the official statement they bitch that their character is what the person would look like.
I thought I read somewhere the reason for only releasing the terror dogs, gozer and slimer is because Murray wouldnt agree to the sculptors using his likeness. I think there was a topic on this site with that in it.
You know that one of the reasons the Video Game is being made, and Murray has given the go ahead is money. There is a lot more money to be made on a video game that may make 100’s of millions of dollars vs. action figures that probably only brought in 10’s of thousands of dollars.
Actually, it IS his likeness. Just because he’s older now doesn’t mean he can’t control how his image is used.
There’s a recent area of law known as the “right of publicity”, which differs depending on what part of the world you’re in. It deals with control of your image, and usually is used with famous people. For example, Elvis, John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe have estates that control how the pictures of them are used and in what context. You can’t just slap a picture of Elvis onto a mug and try to sell it; you’d get sued by the estate.
This also applies to use of any person’s image in a TV commercial or an ad or whatever without their consent. Which is why if you talk to anyone who got caught on camera, they signed release forms; this applies to people reacting to “reality” TV. Or else their faces get blurred out.
One interesting area of this is that politicians do NOT have this kind of control over their image. It’s because (at least in the US) they’re in public office and being paid by taxes. This was tested a couple of years ago when Arnold Schwartzenegger tried to stop a bobble head figure of him being sold. He was able to stop a version that looked like his character from one of the movies (with a gun in his hand and with ammo belts over his shoulders) but I don’t think he could stop one that had him in a suit, looking like the governor.
Back to the topic…I think Murray agreed to the game because for him, it’s just voice-over work. No costumes, no makeup, no running around and getting slimed and falling down. Just go into the studio for a few days, read the lines, be funny, go home. Also he knew the other guys would be watching out for the franchise so the material would be good.
