there are two I agree with… the quick turn feature and repeated line issue… other than that, not so much
We’ll see about the cutscenes… many of them were rendered so long ago.
I noticed the repeated lines last year when I was testing the game, but that was so long ago. I did get annoying, I hope they fixed that.
I don’t really see an issue with the cut scenes, maybe it plays different when you have the game in front of you.
As for co-op mode, that was explained. The whole reason you play as the rookie is because the ghostbusters are there to advance the story and tell you what to do. In the Wii version they give you a second Rookie, but how many Rookies can you get? I think the multiplayer mode is good enough for those that want to play with friends.
It’s hard to say without playing whether a map is needed or not. We do know that you can track ghosts so that should be enough.
I can see how the repeating of lines over and over can be annoying.
All things considered these seem like pretty minor things. I think the stream being hard to predict was done on purpose to kind of force you into destroying the environment around you. Plus it was hardly predictable in the movies. And so far we haven’t seen too much trouble with people wrangling the ghosts in the videos we have seen.
I agree about the wrangling part, you wouldn’t want it to be too spot on. It is a shooter game, but then again it isn’t. This isn’t just a gun or a laser beam or something from Halo. It’s a unique piece of equipment that is at it’s nature unpredictable and everywhere. I’ve got no problems with the randomness of the beam.
Anyone else annoyed by the comments from know-it-alls who are predicting secret disaster?
It ain’t bias, I’ve seen hardly any shreds of evidence to suggest that this game will be a disappointment on any level. Anyone who’s actually been following the coverage of production will know that. This game seems like just from the programming strength and presentation alone that it’s a contender for the 9.0 or above range, and I honestly think that it may be a contender for Game of the Year, though it’ll probably be ignored for being a licensed game.
Many people are judging this game on the fact that it’s a licensed title, and that’s it. Approaching it with the idea that all licensed games = bad (which is very far from true. I’d easily say 80% of licensed/movie games are at least decent), and then with the AVGN reviewing the GB games, now everyone retroactively believes that all past GB games suck (and thereby, this one will too).
Nobody has any original thoughts anymore, and it’s damned annoying. Crying “overhyped disaster-to-be” on this game clearly shows idiocy and a lack of knowledge about just HOW solid it apparently is. I’m also annoyed by the cynical “all Wii games/ports = crap,” too.
I mean, really. Even I’m surprised. I’ve barely heard any hand-on reviews to be in the negative, at worst there just being a mention of a little slowdown or a wish that the ghosts were easier to trap, etc… And the physics engine itself is a marvel of engineering.
A couple of the points were valid (repetative voices, no quick turn), but the others just show a lack of understanding. The Proton beams aren’t supposed to be highly accurate. That’s the complete opposite of what’s shown in the movie. On some fronts, a lot of people don’t “get it” on this game.
It’s an online venue looking for cheap traffic.
I’ve spoken to a lot of others who’ve had serious face-time with the game, AND gaming is their job in one way or another, and they’re loving it.
Does anybody else wish that they just put campaign co-op in the game so these gamers will stop bitching about it not being included.
Unless I missed it, the article doesn’t say what build it’s off. I’ll assume it’s the beta one.
As mentioned the proton streams aren’t supposed to overly accurate. However from the vid of the Sedgwick Hotel demo the guy there had no problems with aiming at all. Not that their complaint is about aiming specifically, they say it’s difficult to ‘predict’. It’s not supposed to go straight from A-B, but as long as it does eventually get from A-B then who cares.
The quick turn. I’ve not played a game with this feature to comment. As for lock on maybe it could have been put in, but again for the vids released so far it doesn’t seem to be missed.
Cut scenes. They look fantastic and I can’t see the complaint at all here. Pre rendered cutscenes allow you to do so much more than just using the in game engine. I’ve no problem with that at all.
Co-op in mission. If they had read any of the interviews from last year they would know the reason why you can’t do co-op campaign. And it is a valid reason. That’s just lazyness on their part.
A map. A map may be handy but not with the waypoints showing. They say you could toggle it on/off. Well no, the reason this isn’t in is because you have to work out what to do next. Clues are given over the RT from the other guys, you have a PKE meter and goggles. That’s how you find out what to do next. Oh and it Egon takes off in a ‘strange’ direction because he knows where to go next, just follow him ■■■■■■■■!
Repetative voices, easy to fix and has probably been mentioned to TR. Easyish fix and not a gamebreaker.
I think there is a lot of lazy reviewing going on there from Patrick Kolan and he has just picked a lot of things from a standpoint of making the game easier for him. That is shown noe so more than with the comment about no campaign co-op. That reason has been known for over 12 months.
Actually! The beams do go from A to B points, A being the tip of the barrel, and B being the crosshair. It’s what’s going on with the beam itself (flailing wildly), between those points, that might make it a little difficult to aim. But as many people (including myself) have stated many times, the beams by their very nature, are very unpredictable/unyielding. The GBs had to learn how to control them, and so can we.
That’s why I said it’s not supposed to go straight from A-B but as long as it does get from A-B by some path then that’s all that matters. It’s supposed to be random paths inbetween.
Oh! You meant that it’s not supposed to be a strait line. ![]()
Sorry, I misunderstood. ![]()
But I think there will be more of a problem with control (Movement Sensitivity), than anything, like when you play FPSs; when your firing a gun, it’s hard to steady a shot while trying to aim/fire, at the same time.
Very true. I can see why people want it, but at the same time it just wouldn’t work for the story.
The only one I am worried about is the repeated line issue. I have heard a line from Ray repeated in the few videos we have seen so far (“You got him!”).
Yes, I believe you’re referring to a certain OverdriveX_678591 who posted the first response to this blog entry.
How about a few pearls, straight from the horse’s mouth?
What evidence? Who’s winking and hinting that it blows? Anyone else here pick up on those hints?
The biggest letdown of the year? Perhaps you’ve hyped it up too much for yourself, plenty of other games coming along the pipelines. The way things are starting to sound? This guy suggested a few quick fixes that don’t really make or break the game.
Who’s saying this?
Now here’s the kicker.
This guy just isn’t going to like the game regardless, the more details, screenshots, and previews that the ghostheads see, the more excited we get. He’s already made up his mind that it’s a crappy game. Oh and apparently Activision’s decision to drop the game is the final say on how much of a piece of garbage this game actually is. Sure, nobody’s judgment has ever been challenged before. Everything that everybody does in the world is a right decision.
Lastly.
Well, let’s review how those games are different than Ghostbusters.
I see that those games coincided with the release of those respective films.
Ghostbusters III is coming in June also right? No?
OK Well like those other other games Ghostbusters: TVG was quickly made right?
4 years in development you say? Hmm…
Could* OverdriveX_678591* be talking out of his ass?
Nah, no way.
You know what’s really irritating is that that article makes out like there is no co-op whatsoever. They vaguely make a note of the existing multiplayer mode but they’re not clear enough for the morons who are posting comments about how “it sux, no co-op, what i thought there was online co-op, man no co-op that’s lame.” etc. One person actually says that he barely bothers with story modes anymore so the lack of co-op doesn’t impress him. Well than no problem because that’s exactly what you’re getting in this game, online co-op multiplayer you dumb f*&K.
Thank you IGN, thank you for planting more seeds of doubt into the masses who were already set to write this game off as another sub-standard movie-game because they don’t know any better (and from the looks of it neither do you). Thank you for your “too little, too late” suggestions (the game is shipping in 8 weeks douche nozzle) Where’s Greg Miller when you need him?
As an Aussie i want to apologize on behalf of IGN Australia for this stupifyingly useless, unhelpful article.
As I said it’s very lazy journalism on his part.
Not knowing why there is no co-op campaign, not thinking as to why there are no maps/waypoints and various other things just show he has skimmed the game and given a rushed ill-though impression.
I’m all for balanced reporting, hence why Greg Miller impressed me with his preview.
And yes, it’s a bit late now for these so called improvements which relly amount to makeing the game easier for him in the main.
the repeated lines i can handle, won’t hurt me one bit. would you like variety sure, but not essential to have it. if he did 2-3 and just toggled through them that would be acceptable.
as everyone pointed out the stream has different physics then a bullet has. a bullet is expected to go straight forward where a steam does not. itll eventually get to its point of destination, but how it gets there will be anyones guess.
of course co-op would be fun, but again you’re essentially playing a movie where i think sp would better suit this game. maybe next time they can do a Gears of War style co-op, but its not a deal breaker to not have it.
dont know much bout multiplayer to have any real input, but its done by some talented people who understand the term multiplayer, and if they screw it up well.
cut-scenes look gorgeous either way you slice it.
IGN did the same with Resident Evil 5 and Capcom didn’t change a thing - ‘why can’t I move and fire!’
It’s a weak articale and will effect nothing - like the developers have time now to change things - and most of the points they make aren’t life threatening.
I hope it’s a great game, and even if it’s not, the boys are back in town and I’m looking forward to them reving up Ecto 1 just one more time. :vinzclortho:
Well a few things first. I love the franchise and I love the Ghostbusters. That said I think we need to think about this objectively. No, lock on is really not that reasonable. Ghosts are going to be going through walls and back into the room again so lock on just can’t work that well. Repeatable lines is a concern but they can only record so much dialog to use and I think that this is just kind of expected. I agree with other comments about way points and maps that we need to use the equipment to find our way. Co-op would be great but I just don’t see it happening. The fact is I think there is just too much going on to have a split screen view that would work. I am an avid user of iron sights when I play shooter games but this game is a whole new breed of shooter. I think the aiming and quick turns need to be fine tuned I’m sure but I am willing to deal with whatever they come up with. I have one small problem with the cut scenes versus the in game graphics. I just kind of noticed that the lighting is different from when they are standing in front of Staypuft as he is rounding the corner in the street versus when the actual game play is happening. This is at night though and it seems the day time lighting is most likely seamless from cut scene to game play. All in all I think that this game is going to be fun and not just a movie tie in game and that the article has it’s point but we know nothing of which build and how much time they had with the game. Notice that IGN and alot of sights hype a game up only to bring it down on release.
also if these are the only real gripes they have bout the game i think its pretty safe to say this game going to own.
