I would have to say that my best memories of RGB were watching with anticipation, waiting for the moment when the ghost of the day was busted, because I would promptly roll my trap to the foot of the TV and “help” the ghostbusters catch it. I had this little ghostbusters chalkboard where I would keep a running list of how many and which ghosts I’d “helped” the boys catch.
I also remember watching just the opening of “The Halloween Door” over and over again because I’d see the scenes from the promo in the intro and wonder which episode they were from because I couldn’t remember. Of course, I figured out what hapened later, but back then I’d have marathons watching all my recordings to try to find it, and then I’d throw a fit at my parents for forgetting to record one of the episodes!
Really, I’d say that “The Grundel”, “Halloween 2 1/2”, “The Copycat”, Two Faces of Slimer", and all of Season 3 are very close in terms of which is my favorite episode. The animation just got so good in that mid-late 80s anime sort of way, and I loved in season three that the proton streams looked like they did in the movie. Probably the busts I remember most vividly are the Copycat and the weird eyeball thing that almost killed Egon. The latter especially, as it was such a break from the normal “blast, chase, blast, trap” or “the monster’s too big, shoot it til it explodes” routine. I loved how it looked when they had to seperate the ghost from the chicken in “Poultrygeist”, and that UNGODLY howl those things made when you tried to trap them.
Of course “Standing Room Only” was intense with friggin’ giant Mee-Krah the desert creator, and “Robo-Buster” was awesome just because of the sheer size of what they were up against. Using multiple traps for a single entity was another thing I was a fan of. That chunk of episodes was so great at creating and holding dramatic tension. All of this stuff appealed to me at a very young age (5 or 6 and onward).
Now I can appreciate the darker elements of the earlier episodes and that “flavor” of animation and storytelling, but the ones I mentioned were the ones that I remember the fondest. As opposed to digging deep into mythology and folklore like earlier episodes, this stuff was just ■■■■■ to the wall, “there’s creepy ■■■■ out there, and we’ve got to go take care of it!” type stuff. It kept my attention more. :mrgreen:

I seem to get a lot of my work mates makeing fun of me cus of my love for a cartoon…but i don’t care even if i have a kid im still as much as kid as he is lol …it’s just good to take a break from life sometimes and chill out with the GB’s
Yeah, I get in trouble sometimes for having a mind like a steel trap.
I remember all kinds of stuff that other people don’t. Theme songs, stuff people said, lyrics to songs I don’t even like, complete lines/scenes from movies I’ve only seen once, it’s crazy sometimes.
I’m actually watching “Poultrygeist” right now. It’s still great!
i havent seen any episodes since i was a kid.so i was quite surprised how well they hold up! i have only watched the first disc so far and i have to say in mrs. rogers neighborhood the whole “what” scene is totaly lol funny and is my fave of disc one.boogie mans a classic also.
As a kid you really don’t appreciate the dialogue as much as when you are older, so I second what Mr JackIvy said about waiting anxiously for the busts! I would definitely suit up with my entire gear with trap, pke, ecto goggles and all! I would act out the opening credits as if I were one of the guys! I never have had to wear glasses so I would pop out the lenses in sun glasses just so I could be egon! My parents finally got me toy glasses after I ruined sll of my uncles!
Even as a kid I was a fan of the darker episodes so the Grundel would definitely be at the top! That episode really left an impact on me for years to come. I definitely would behave better out of fear for the Grundel showing up at my window! Samhain was always one of my favorites as well and Halloween 2 1/2 would probably come in second!
I never was a fan of the slimer cartoon mainly because there would rarely be any ghostbusting in it! The guys didn’t come out too much either so that series would bore me easily!
Man at this time of the year…i remember getting all the VHS tapes 2nd hand of corse…but it was great to sit about 5cm away from the TV and watch about 7 or 6 hours worth of the real GB’s…plus i finally got the fire house along with these guys

Naturally I love the episodes featuring Sam Hain and the Boogeyman. But there are two episodes that I really remember well and are my favorites. They actually scared me when I was a kid, but sadly I dont remember the name of either episode…
The first features the guys going to a castle in, I believe, Scotland. I remember them chasing a red spikey demon around at night and near the end, Ray was flying through an army of the dead on a bycicle to make it into town to activate some huge custom traps made from garbage trucks.
The second has the guys in Alaska, where Peters dad found some frozen ancient monster. Peters dad eventually got the frozen monster back to NYC and, teaming up with that phony psychic from the ‘Aunt Lois’ episode, try to eveil the monster at a show like King Kong. I remember the monster scaring the bejezus out of me as a kid. Anyone know the names of those two episodes?

From childhood I distinctly remember sitting there on Saturday morning, watching RGB with my proton pack and/or while playing with the figures. I also remember taking the trap, and using the pipes around our water heater in the basement as a “containment unit”…there was a square spot that perfectly allowed me to insert the trap and “clean it out” (damn, you really can’t escape sounding sexual when talking GB).
Now, in terms of the episodes, I must say they are better than I remember in terms of humor and subject matter. In comparing them to modern cartoons, they got away with a lot; secondary characters smoking all the time, direct references to the GB’s potentially being killed/dying, etc. You just don’t see that anymore…society is soft now haha.
I am on Vol. 2 disc 4 right now…since I am on break (I love being a teacher) I have been burning through these bad boys left and right. I think it was around Vol. 1 disc 3 or 4 roughly that I noticed the eps were consistently good…the ones before were too, but it feels like the writers really hit their stride around the aforementioned eps.
Two things though: “Ragnarok and Roll” is a good episode overall, but I can’t get over Jeremy’s voice. Even back in the day it would have been silly and doesn’t fit the character (I have a feeling it was done on purpose to ease some of the tension, considering he’s a dark character) but now it sounds like Will Ferrell’s George W. Bush.
Also (super nerdy observation warning), in “Lights! Camera! Haunting!”, towards the beginning when the movie is being shot, we see some background characters on set. One looks EXACTLY like an original Borg from “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. TNG didn’t premiere until '87, with the Borg being introduced in '88…the RGB episode aired in '86…does anyone know if any of the character designers worked on both shows?
My favs definetaly. A Fright at the opera( Which used to scare the ■■■■ out of me.) Citizen Ghost, and Sandman dream me a dream. You know I never noticed this but a lot of the episodes do have a lot of grown up messages in them which makes me appreciate it more as an adult, than I ever did as a kid.

i got alot of favorite episodes but just to name a few. here it is ghosts"r"us, the boogieman cometh, when halloween was forever, the christmas episode,the sandman,deadcon 5,ragnna rock and roll(forgive the spelling), that old college spirit, devil in the deep,knock knock,mr’s roger’s neighborhood,citizen ghost,the grundel, the copycat,loathe thy neighbor,big trouble for little slimer,transylvanian homesick blues,baby spookums,once upon a slime,poltrygeist, camping it up, flip side,the joke’s on ray,the boogieman’s back,halloween 2 1/2, robo-buster, standing room only, the brooklyn triangle, something’s going round, if i were a witch man, live at al capone’s grave,future tense, ransome of greenspud,it’s about time, janine you’ve changed,spacebusters, ghostworld, the haunting of heck house and that’s just to name a few i got alot more but i think i’ve excided my limit.
I distinctly remember watching “Very Beast Friends” and making sure my VCR was recording, checking the deck probably 3 times over the course of the episode.
I still can’t figure out if I love Season 2 or the syndicated run better… it really comes down to animation quality versus storytelling. I mean, even as I kid I really never cared for the Junior Ghostbusters, not to mention the sillier ghosts, but I guess that’s what helped keep the show on for as long as it was.
