mine is
That’s a tough one to answer because I love all of them for different reasons. I guess if I had to choose it would be Hanging by a Thread. I love greek lore.
I guess I’d have to say The Collect Call of Cathulhu is my favorite, but it’s a tough call ![]()
I’d have to say Knock, Knock was my personal favorite.
Holy ■■■■ I have many. But I have to go with The Spirit Of Aunt Lois, simply because of this great line:
“SLIIIIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMEEEERRRRRRRR!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY BED?!”
Oh what, the heck. I haven’t responded to a version of this topic in a while ![]()
Here’s my top ones (not neccessarily in order)
A masterpiece from JMS, possibly the grimmest episode of the entire series (but even then, they made room for a surreal moment or two…“Is there any point in even asking?” “You mean this is the real thing?” and the gargoyles in the studded underpants)
Janine You’ve Changed
Another JMS episode, this time taking all of the grevous, ruinous changes inflicted to Janine since he quit the show, and using them to concoct this sweet, sweet lemonade. Janine finally vents the frustration that’s been building..and Egon does the only thing he can to reclaim her soul from the creature that covets it: he unleashes the truth that has burned within him since, well, strangely enough, “Ragnarok and Roll”…
Why folks, I believe we have a JMS sweep here…the movie founded the mix of the comedic and the horriific, and no example of the animation better equals this idea than this episode: the pathetic Cubby sells his soul (a horrific thing) to get rid of all the chickens in the world (an insanely assinine and petty thing) It’s pretty chilling if you think about it. So bizarre that JMS got a call from the head of the studio asking if he felt all right–the mark of genius.
Narrowing it down to one would be really hard.
“Citizen Ghost” is one of my favorites, but that would also be a cliche answer. It finally gives us the story of what happened right after the movie, and the Anti-Busters (or whatever you want to call them) are an awesome antagonist.
I also really like “Ghost Fight at the OK Corral.” I like the “Western” aspect to it. The humor is good. (example, after Peter quotes the Dewey Lamort book about the well-oiled Colt hanging low on the hip, he is asked which one the quote came from and he responds “All of 'em.”) Finally, I think it’s got some of the best animation of the entire series.
Just out of interest Fritz, what’s your favourite non-JMS episode?
Anyway, here’s mine:
**Egon’s Ghost ** - excellent story, thrilling all the way through. The best example in the franchise of the friendship between the four. Almost like a Sheila Paulson fanfic come to life, in fact.
Ragnarok and Roll - the most dramatic episode of the series by far and handled superbly. A great moral at the end as well.
Mrs. Roger’s Neighborhood - takes the old haunted house trope and cranks it right up. I love how this plays as a funnier-than-average episode right up until the last five minutes, when it suddenly takes a much more sinister twist.
The Bogeyman Cometh/The Bogeyman is Back - the former features arguably the GB’s greatest foe and some very welcome Egon backstory. The latter isn’t quite as good (you all know why) but has some fantastic animation and the possessed theme park is an inspired bit of spooky design. Surprisingly creepy as well for a post-JMS episode.
The Spirit of Aunt Lois - the funniest episode of the series? So many great elements - Dr. Basingame (a much-needed swipe at phony spiritualists), Aunt Lois, eye-popping animation and the mother of all busting scenes at the end.
The Man Who Never Reached Home - a brilliant showcase for Ray and one of the more three-dimensional ghosts in Simon Quaig. A very tense and quite creepy story too.
The Joker, I would have to agree about The Spirit of Aunt Lois having one of the greatest busting scenes in the series. I like Peter peering under some furniture and saying, “Hi Fella Smile.” I also love the fact that it was one of the first episodes to show the guys in Full Gear complete with Gloves.
I guess I should talk about another episode before I go too far off topic. Another one of my favorites is When Halloween was Forever. I think Sam Hain is an Awesome villian.
I’d pick these two:
For all the reasons you mention already
In the out-of-order first broadcasts, this was the “real” debut of Charlie Venkman and Dr. Bassingame, two of the best non-ghost characters in the show, and they team up! On top of that add an awesome demon (Hob) and even some educational stuff (what other cartoon would mention Inuit minyans?), a bit of King Kong parody, and it’s gold.
I couldn’t stop laughing at that, it just sounded so weird…kinda perverted even, but it was oh so funny.
I like most of the episodes mentioned here. Some of my real faves were Janine’s Day Off. I just love the Egon and Janine dynamic soo much. And it was funny how Peter was mocking Egon and Egon even mocked Peter back when he was telling him it wasn’t a date lol (Although by this point, Janine and Egon had already technically already been on a date, but I guess Egon was still in denial.)
I am trying to watch the episodes in order of airing dates, so I haven’t gotten very far. I am on Season 3 now. However, I watched the episode “Three men and an Egon” and I thought that was a pretty funny episode, regardless of Peter’s phoney voice :sigh:
You’re thinking of Rollerghoster, where Peter was teasing Egon about him being out with Janine. Even though I’m not a fan of Egon and Janine together romantically, at least in that ep, she wasn’t too clingy or creepy obsessive, so I suppose it’s alright. Also perhaps because it was a Richard Mueller episode, and he wrote the Egon/Janine romance nicely in the Ghostbusters Movie novelization. Janine’s Day Off had it’s moments, especially the part where Egon was taking a mushroom out of the soup they were having.
Janine:“What are you doing?”
Egon:“Adding this to my collection of spores, molds and fungus.” Victor then sprays Egon with his squirt gun. “I think I might add him to my collection too!”
And yes, “There Men and An Egon” was hilarious, even though Dave Coulier was in it. Rap Shakespeare? Where do you find that?
Ahh yes, you are correct, sorry for my mistake >_< But yeah, that was my favorite part too when he takes the mushroom out of the soup lol.
One of my favourite RGB scenes is from Janine’s Genie where the little creatures pull off that man’s hairpiece and dance around on the top of his head.
Yeah, how sweet it is!
Either “Knock, Knock” or “Citizen Ghost”. There are a ton of episodes I love, but those are my tops.
Ghostbuster of the Year is hands down my favorite. A lot of funny moments and great lines and the whole thing is a parody of Citizen Kane!
Ray: “I used to read Spook’s Illustrated when I was a kid.”
Peter: “Yeah, so did I. Especially the swimsuit issue.”
Egon: " I used to dream about being on the cover."
Peter (in Ray’s voice for some reason): “Of the swimsuit issue?”
And I love that pool-cue ghost that chases Peter.
2nd place is The Thing in Mrs. Faversham’s Attic.
The 2nd Season has all the best episodes really.
For me it’s a four way tie – in no particular order:
-
Knock Knock
-
Mrs. Rogers Neighborhood
Its a four way tie because these are the four episodes that were always stuck in the back of my mind all these years and put the biggest grin on my face when I was reacquainted with them due to the DVD release.
