Which 10 RGB episodes make you say, “This is what the Ghostbusters brand is all about!” Personally, I’m a stickler for the big climactic showdowns. Here are my picks:
I agree, but for the purposes of my list, I picked the 10 episodes that I felt slightly more passionate about. [Halloween 2 1/2 & the Boogieman Returns would actually be right after those mentioned above] This post was intended for everyone to create their own lists showcasing the episodes they feel best represent the GB brand name. What are your other 8 eps?
Mrs. Roger’s Neighborhood easily beats out Doctor/Doctor in my opinion. The Mrs. Roger’s episode encapsulates the crazy unexpected spirit of Ghostbusters so much to me
I dunno, SoS…I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. When thinking of RGB to movie GB, I look at the more “serious” episodes over goofy ones like…well pretty much anything from Slimer and the RGB for example.
Only thing I might change is replacing The Halloween Door with The Thing in Mrs. Faversham’s Attic as it seems more in line with the original movie. That and I really like the brief glimpse into Peter’s soft side at the end. It really tugs at the heartstrings.
I say both Mrs. Rogers’ Neighborhood and Doctor, Doctor are great at encapsulating the “unexpected” spirit of Ghostbusters. Viewing these episodes for the first time (some 20+ years ago), I never expected WHAT to possess Peter nor did I expect body parts to appear out of the ectoplasmic chemical that covered the GBs. However, in my opinion, I think Doctor, Doctor slightly outweighs Mrs. Rogers’ Neighborhood as far as shock value is concerned. The giant eye coming out of Ray’s chest still gives me the creeps. [and it was looking around!] ::ugh::
I’d have to think about a full list pretty carefully, but I would throw Robobuster in there. I like that it shows despite the technological advancements and a robot that can do their job for them, nothing beats the Real deal. Also, Janine in action is always a plus.
No episode of the series better juxtaposed surreal humor and horror the way this one did. A guy selling his soul to get rid of all the chickens in the world…the only idea in all of Ghostbusters history more twisted than that was having a world-destroying Sumerian demon materialize in the form of a cheerful cartoon character.
When the producers are calling you up asking if you’re feeling all right, you know you’ve done it right.
I’m going to suggest Egon On A Rampage because to this day it sticks in my head and the media satire is pretty ace. I find it the most adult of all the episodes to be honest.
i also love the Lovecraft episode The Collect Call Of Cathulu. nice adaptation of Lovecraft into Ghostbusters, made me yearn for a movie plot based on Lovecraft myth but the whole idea is rather Lovecraftian anyway hahahah.
I dont’ know my top ten, because I can’t think of them all . . . But it definitely includes Killerwatt (floating buliding, electric ghosts possessing items, only to be removed from the items once hit with a proton stream, ecto-1 being turned against them), citizen ghost, and slimer come home.
I’d have to go with Ragnarok and Roll (even though they should have found a different voice actor for the main villain). It had an “end of the world” theme (complete with destruction of New York and half the earth). The rooftop scene at the end with the GBs knowing that they would have to destroy themselves in the process of destroying the main threat really gave a nod to the first GB film (even Ray saying “Nice working with you Venkman”).
welker’s voice for the main villan jeremy sounded like both elvis and bill clinton although clinton wasn’t recognized until the mid 90’s right after rgb got axed.
He did have a couple of Ray-ish moments, but it didn’t distract me. Besides, I always liked the idea of an intelligent bad guy having a Southern accent…a nice reversal of stereotypes if you see what I mean.
This is definitely a tough list to create! Many of my favorites are in the first syndicated season and feature more of the creepy, heavy ghostbusting, slimer-lite episodes. Not that the slimer episodes are all THAT bad, but here goes:
