Lights.........

Hyperdynelabs has been out of stock on all the light required for the proton pack as well as the other props. Anyone know where else the lights can be found?

Glad you posted this. I had been wanting to bring up questions about lighting for awhile now. I personally won’t be much help, but this may generate some knowledgeable responses from folks.

What I want to know is: I’ve always heard Darice, Inc. makes a suitable light kit that could be used for the cyclotron and booster, but…what is the model # of the light kit? I can find Darice lights on the web, but unless I know the exact specs, it’s kind of a fruitless search.

I’ve also wondered how much trouble it would be to buy a breadboard/circuitboard, LED’s, wires, resistor, etc. and build them myself. I figure if you learn the key to the proton pack lights, one could conceivably move on to creating the PKE, gun, & geiga meter lights as well.

well same here… I was so happy when i was done with my RGB proton pack. And when i was walking in the parade and it was lighting up .. and the soud was great. But the problem i had was that the lights on my pack blew out. and it was rather hard to get to so i didt try. Cause well my pack is made out of wood. So it would be a big mess. what i was useing for my pack was some small ligh bulb i bought at Radio shack(4 in total for the proton pack part) they were connecred to a set of 4 D batteries..Well i think i over powered it and they blew. Well i hope i can get some feed back on my little problem . So when its time to make RGBpack 2.0 it would have the same problem .

I do make the lights myself and it is no party. You can get the parts from Mouser online and some from Radio Shack + Fry’s for the LEDs. But like I said it is no party it will take sometime to get it write. Like one thing I have a 5 second delay on the cyclotron I don’t no why that happens but it does. The only thing that I think it could be is everything is on the same board and the timer that is on the board runs the booster and the cyclotron. And last it is jumper city sense you don’t have the board pre done. You can order that done for you but I have found that it will cost way to much to do unless you order a lot from the company ten or more.

On doing the PKE I would not know were to start that’s because the bread board would be way to big to fit everything on it to fit in a small space. Unless you get it pre done…

If you want to build your own just get the Keith’s schematic from this site and go for it… It’s a working plan…

Although if you want to purchase one I have a few more pack light kits in stock, and will be doing another run when this stock is gone… The only difference from the one pictured below is that that new kits have the correct 15 lights for the powercell…

For the price and quality Exoray’s stuff is pretty hard to beat. And after you look at what you get for the money, you wouldn’t want to do it yourself.

And besides, the blue light bar is so BRIGHT it will steal your soul!

Can I suggest starting another thread nailing out the details of what the RGB circuit should do and I will help out in the thread so everyone can benefit…

As for the LED color if that is all you want changed that is a simple order to fill :smiley:

About how long do the batteries last? Also how many batteries does it take. I am seriously interested in purchasing one.

As for the batteries if you go with the 6 C size batteries that I include the battery pack for it should last for a LONG time… I actually don’t have any real world estimates on time, but I recently received a PM that said his pack worked all last year and this year on the same batteries… I don’t know how long they used it each year though…

You can also run it off a single 9volt battery and you should get around 8 hours…

Both the included 6 C cell battery pack and a 9volt battery are plug and play as the battery wire accepts both…

Or you can run it off your own power source if you go all out with your pack, it can run off 6-24 VDC without any real issues…

u know the way they come on like one at a time and so on and os forth more specificly the proton guns power lights led display

Awesome looking light set you have there ! I assume you sell it assembled and ready to install. Would you consider selling it as a parts kit (for less money, of coures) ? A bag full of all the components and a parts placement diagram - I could solder it all together myself ! And, a lower price would make it more affordable to more people !

Also, do you have a light set for the Proton Wand ?

Yep, just add batteries…

Although I have thought about this option I have to say it will never happen for many reasons…

  1. By the time I sort the parts, count them out, and repackage them (several static sensitive parts, need special packing not just tossed in a bag) I would have wasted half the time it takes me to solder them in…

  2. Customer support, simply I don’t have the time to offer it for people asking “Why doesn’t it work?” “Can I get part xxx because I can’t find it?” and a slew of other questions I know will pop up…

  3. I am not doubting your skills at soldering, but I know from experience that there are many people who claim to be able to solder and I can only grit my teeth when I see the work they do… :wink:

  4. On the solder topic there is over 275 solder points on the kit, that is 275 errors that can be made causing the kit to fail, refer to #2

  5. Wrong part placement, wrong polarity, bent legs even with great instructions I know these will happen, refer to #2

  6. Inadequate work area that could possibly cause failer of parts do to electrostatic discharge refer to #2

  7. Lifting of the solder pads on the board do to inexperience with soldering refer to #2

And the list could go on and on… Because of the need and hassle of customer support for kits if I offered them, I doubt I would offer much more then maybe $10 off the price…

And the biggest reason, I personally assemble the whole kit and verify each and every unit and light harness prior to shipping… This way I know I am sending out a quality item that works…

All in all if you want to build it yourself and try to save a few bucks, then I highly suggest you dive into building the circuit on this site that Keith provided… My kit is based on that design with several improvements and tweaks… It’s a working design and I will help with some support of it if you run into issues that I can help with online…

So you don’t really have the light boards? Are you suggesting that you just have a pile of parts and some perf boards to build a circuit on?

Can you give me more specific details?

As for the gun lights to get the correct sequence in a DIY kit is going to be really complicated for most, and that is why you don’t see a DIY circuit posted anywhere…
