I have been upgrading my Hasbro proton pack with a ton of mods. I’m pretty much completed at this point and I love it!!! I have never ever done anything like this before and with this being a collectors item toy, all the mods I’ve done are completely reversible back to the way it came in the box from the factory.
One of the things I’ve noticed is it has a slight shine to it that makes it looks a little bit plastic. I would love to get that plastic’y look to be subdued without ruining the pack or not being able to reserve it back if I needed to. Do you have any suggestions of what to use? Maybe something you can rub on but can come off if needed. Or something else I’m not thinking of. Thanks so much!!
If you don’t want to do a full tear-down and repaint (and I don’t blame you) then there’s a few things you could try.
Use some IPA and a magic sponge to remove some of the existing silver “weathering”. If you want, add your own using rub n buff which will look much more metallic.
You could scuff the surface with a scouring pad. But only ever brush back/forth in one direction, never in circles.
You could add black boot polish/wax or simply apply black paint in places thinly with a sponge to take off the plastic sheen.
You could lightly spray over it with some sort of matt lacquer.
