Manga form? What were they thinking!?!

Wasn’t really sure if I should post about this or not considering the style and the art of the book. Personally not a bad read for a GB title though, the art and looks for some of the characters might through off or turn off most fans though. Story wise it’s more cheesey and kid freindly like the cartoons IMO and looks more like a prequal than part of the same timeline or after the events of the first two films since they look so much younger in it. Personally not really worth the $12.99 price tag tokyopop wants, but a good read if your killing time in the bookstore.

Just out of curiosity though, I know when reading comics and manga or even reading fan fics most readers have and hear certain voices for the characters, but is it just me or did anyone else think of a Steven Blum type voice when reading his lines?

I thought it was awesome, a lot better than The Other Side, the mini-series IDW released about the same time. Though I don’t really see the “kid friendly” argument real well when they had a “fussy ■■■■■■” for a villain, and one ghost trapped Venkman by taking on the form of a co-ed wearing nothing but a towel.

(I mean, shit, it’s not like the original movie was some R-rated gorefest with lots of ■■■■■■, right?)

I can kind of see the “they looked too young” argument, though, especially in the last story…even though, at the same time, I thought Crissy Delk’s art was the best in the book.

When I read Ghostbusters stuff, I still hear Lorenzo Music, Frank Welker, Arsenio Hall, Maurice LaMarche, and Laura Summer. Steve Blum would probably make a pretty awesome Venkman, though Tons better than Dave Coulier.

Lol ok, kinda get your point on the kid freindly part, guess i wasn’t thinking about them when I was typing and considered them more in the terms of a “ghost of the week” type character than “OMG rocky horror ghost busting show”

i thought the book was great. wicked fun

I enjoyed both the art styles of the manga and the stories as well. I thought the overall manga book was eons better than The Other Side.

The fact that this came out around the same time as the Other Side, made me like this a lot more. Because i did not like the Other Side. No, sir…I did not.

I found myself laughing at the Tokyopop book. It was just a lot of fun Ghostbusting stories. I’m not really a manga person and don’t know a lot about it but I enjoyed it. Just a lot of the dialogue and moments were a lot of fun I thought. Other Side was just a huge downer for me. :whatever:

I hate manga, but I liked the book. I thought two of the chapters were completely ■■■■, but the rest of it was golden. Except machine-gun Winston. That part was just…no.

I liked it some of the art was pretty good and the fact that Jack Hardemeyer the mayors flunky was the villan always thought his caracter would have been good in rgb if you can have peck why not jack!

I felt the same way. The beginning was just manga story stock. Not to mention too ‘rough draft’ looking (I don’t understand why that art style is so popular).

“Machine-Gun Winston” made no sense at all. Neither did the reasoning why Ray had to wear the possessed dress in order to catch a PKE reading (I’m pretty sure they could have got a reading easily at the shop and customers). The whole crossdressing and transgender thing got old fast. It was funny at first, but ehhh…

I loved the Egon and Ray chapters. They could have worked out perfectly as self-contained mini-stories (of course with different endings).

The art sucked dead donkey dick through a straw.

And a wonderful person you are, too.

I personally enjoyed Ghostbusted, I found the art (while sketchy at times) was very well done, the writters for the storyline (while more then one) was done in great detail. They paid close attention to each charactor in my eyes and gave them something TOS didn’t…charactor detailing and brought peter’s sarcastic dry humor back. Not dissing TOS of course while it was a good read, I just prefer the manga and the classic GB feeling I got from reading it is all

Dude, feel free to diss TOS

damn…don’t hold back man, tell us how you really feel about it…

My favorite art was Crissy Delks, the rest was…meh

Although someone should have rethought that cover, were it not for the mere fact that it was Ghostbusters, I never would have bought it based on the cover alone. And being a fan of comics, you really gotta have nice covers, I mean as a collector, a crappy cover is lose lose. To preserve it I can’t read it much, and on top of that the cover isn’t even nice to look at…weak.

I generally don’t like Anime, and had never read Manga, but picked this up because it was Ghostbusters and loved it. I agree with many others here in thinking that “Ghost Busted” was much better than either IDW or 88MPH GB comics. Even when it was a bit cartoonish it still “felt” like Ghostbusters, which “the Other Side” and “Legion” didn’t to me. I emailed Tokyopop to see if they were going to make any more but (no big surprise) didn’t get any responses.

I thought it was great, and I thought TOS was good too,not great mind you but it was good.IDW should have gotten some of their guys from the Transformers stuff to do some art and stories for it,then it would have been great!

Hmm, I think I’m more on the “other side” of that. I actually preferred Legion above all of them. I would put the manga at a close second, as the story and how the characters were portrayed was close to Ghostbusters, with a hint of RGB. IDW’s Other Side was meh…but I won’t say I hated it.
