HA! Perfection…^^
Okay so I’ve got everything I need to finish this pack except my ion arm cap which should arrive this week.
I finished installing the resistors on the ion arm and started to add tubing. Learned a hard lesson though - once you push the tubing into the elbows, it doesn’t come out. I did pick up a pair of real vintage legris straights off of ebay and removed all the SMC elbows for painting - One of which has red tubing I am going to tape off.

I also received a resin shock mount from Nick-a-tron and installed it. So this is where I stand. Need to finish cutting the hole for Wiz’s loom clamp and drill out the hole in the gearbox for the 3/4" loom and dry fit it. Then it’s onto the electronics.

Forgot to add - I ended up not using barbs on the injector block. The red and blue tubing didn’t look right attached to barbs at the lower end. I did leave the barbs on the injector tubes though. Had to upsize the holes in the block to 1/4" for the tubing to fit.
I also have an aluminum N filter that I am dreading cutting. I’ve never used a dremel before so if anyone has any tips, they would be much appreciated. I think I’m going to build a Pringles mock up first before I try to cut the real N filter.
Dremel tools are amazing. Create a score at a lower speed. You probably know this, but use a carbon cutting wheel. Wear your PPE. And lastly, sometimes they like to “walk”, so be as cautious as you can.
All looking great mate. If you push the caps down on the SMC elbows then you should be able to pull the tubing out. Give it a try! Don’t worry about the Dremel work either. I had never used a Dremel before my pack build, if you follow the steps that Grimmy said then you’ll be fine. I used the Dremel to cut bits and pieces as well as grinding out holes and creating my Stantz chip. You’ll be wicked mate, just tackle it with confidence!!
Thanks for the heads up Venkman’s swagger. I already removed the caps to install brass tubing and make them look more like the legris elbows. That explains why I couldn’t get the tubing out.
No worries mate. Looking forward to more progress
Grimmy GB - is this the cutoff wheel you are talking about?

It says it’s for masonry and there’s another one for metal. Which one is better for aluminum?
I use the “reinforced” ones for literally ALL my cutting (as long as you’re using a rotary Dremel anyway). http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dremel-1-1-4-in-Fiberglass-Reinforced-Cut-Off-Wheels-5-Pack-426/100009724
Thanks so much. I saw that one too. Heading to Home Depot this afternoon.
Finished fabricating everything except the N filter. Can’t decide if I want to cut the N filter or shell. Definitely nervous about doing either one. I think I’ll wait to see what Grimmy does and try to copy it ![]()
I picked up a dremel and have been practicing on scrap aluminum in case I do decide to cut down the filter. Honestly, I’m afraid I’ll cut off a finger if I try to cut the filter.
Awesome! Better paint and beat up that ion arm cap!
Definitely. Unfortunately it’s too cold and damp to paint in VA right now. May have to wait until spring. At least I’ll have plenty of time to figure out the electronics. ![]()
So it’s finally time for an update. Got a little something special for Christmas to add to the pack:
Then I got a second surprise from a weather standpoint. For 2 days after Christmas it was near 60 degrees so I decided to start painting. Keep in mind that I plan to go back and put a few more coats on in the spring. I also didn’t paint the bumper or booster frame yet - both were black resin. I sprayed the inside with satin black and yellow. The outside of the shell and resin pieces are flat black. And yes - the ion cap will also be painted black.
And finally, after seeing Grimmy GB way of tackling the N filter, I decided to cut a big freakin hole in my pack ![]()
Here’s the N filter in place. Need to milliput and epoxy it in permanently.
That’s all for now folks. I’m recovering from the flu and will post more updates soon.
WOO WOO! A true LC-1 frame AND your n-filter in place!? WOO WOO!
Wow you are definitely a brave one. Where did you get the n-filter from? I’m debating if I should cut into my shell but I might end up cutting the n-filter and using bondo to place it on the side.
Just my 2 cents: don’t use bondo to hold the filter in place. Bondo is meant to be used as a filler and not an adhesive (unless you are using the self-adhesive patch). I’d use epoxy or a frame system for screws to hold it in place.
Hmmmm thanks. Can you recommend a good epoxy?
