my pack construction *NEW SHOTS PAGE 6!!*

hehe.

i’ll be posting up some new photos of the pack with all its subtle changes and all new thrower soon. just need to add the activate switch, the banjo tips red cable and green hose to the thrower and install new cyclotron len’s.

i have so far cut doen my booster tube plug, tightened and aligned my ribbon cable, added more accurately sized foil labels to the bumber and top of the ppd box, drilled out the hose entry point so its just like the real packs and lots of other little tweeks etc.

watch this space

I had to look up Mig pigments cause I hadn’t heard of them and I found this nice tutorial on using them:

http://www.internethobbies.com/seofpi.html

Looks like that’s what I’ll be using on my pack to get rust effects on the bolts and maybe some scorch marks and stuff.

thanks for that link ghostguy.

I’ve been using some of those techniques for quite a while, but its good to see more of what people do!

i was just thinking something. you know those magazines where they have good looking girls all over cars or guitars, why won’t they have any of them with a proton pack and traps and stuff? it’d be cool if they did that around the time the game or third movie came out.

Umm…that would be what the monthly calendars posted on the site last year were all about…eventually, I’d love to figure out how to work my damn scanner, so I can post pictures of some of the GB pinups I’ve drawn. Sorry to help de-rail this post…your pack looks fricking amazing, nick-a-tron, I can’t wait for my new exoray shell to start on my own! I hope it looks half as good as yours when it’s all finished!

no worries Dr. Spengs  thankyou for the kind words. right now my pack is going through an overhaul to make it as accurate as possible. also i have to have some professional photos taken of it soon so i will be sure to show you all those when they are done.

i look forward toseeing your build spengs

nick you wouldnt happen to remember the length of the tubing would you?

Also, it looks like you put the lbrackets on the pack shell to connect to the motherboard. if so, what types of brackets did you use (were they threaded) and how did you know where to drill on the motherboard?

Hey nick, that’s an awesome Proton Pack, well done!

thanks Rick! your packs looking great too!

which tubing do you need to know the length of? im not at home right now so dont have my pack to hand but will measure whatever you need when i get home (oo-err  ).

as for the L-brackets i used standard brackets which are about 2.5" wide. i pretty much lined it all up by eye and marked and drilled the holes. its no a perfect fit as my mobo isnt flush with the shell. it sits about 1/6" away from the shell when bolted on. sadly. they aren’t threaded, i glued bolts to them with epoxy glue and used milliput to reall hold them on there.

I was just looking for all of the lines if it isnt that much trouble. Would be beneficial if that info was posted somewhere. I thought that it was in one of the plans, but I could not find it now. Sure I could eyeball it, but others would find this info useful too.

ok mate, well when im back home i will give you the measurements for all the cable etc i used. of course it wont be in any way “official” but will give a good idea of the lengths used.

Thanks! Much appreciated. Getting prepared for when my v71 shell comes in. The measurements should help alot of people out too.

Time to annoy nick even more. Where did you get the labels? Didnt see you mention that. I love how you weathered your pack btw. Was just looking for weathering examples and yours is great. I will need to get some aluminum paint, mythril and chainmail from GW is probably too bright.

Cool Nick,

Just been looking at it and yeah i see what you mean about the black tubing on the injectors and the other ones that go on the bit by the ppd discs. Ive ordered the tubing from here but what did you use to attach them was it just glue ??

Elwood

i got my labels from TK570 (lonnie hale), i dont know if they are a blacklisted or frowned upon seller so you might need to do some homework before buying. some of the labels were too big but apart from that they are quite nice. i have replaced a few with bobbamatt’s fantastic labels.

as for the paint i use GW’s mythril silver mixed with a tiny bit of chaos black on some parts and then neat mythril silver for smaller chips

thanks Elwood. i used just a tiny spot of superglue to hold the tubes in place.

ill get the hose and wire measurements up later today

So Excited for my stuff to get in. All I do is stare at this site, and your pack…

But any luck getting the measurements? No rush really, my stuff isnt even here…

sorry mate just been super busy last couple of days. i havent forgotten about the measurements though. will get them posted up as soon as i get a spare moment.

wow i’m glad i finally read through this whole thread! its been said, but great work. there’s some really great help in this thread for would be proton pack builders in here!

you should definitely post up the progression of the lights and if you do sound. these aspects are the ones that scare me the most…unfortunately.

any joy here nick? if not dont fret, i can still wait. i just dont want (me to) forget about it.

garrgh sorry, been away from home last few days. will get those measurements to you over the weekend. im home all day sunday so most likely be then.
