Nick-a-tron's 2nd pack build thread! **NEW PICS LAST POST**

hi all! though i would open up this thread to keep you all updated with my 2nd pack build. so far ive been collecting parts and getting the shell finished. to get the ball rolling i thought i would share a couple of shots of how my shell is looking so far.

scratchbuilt from sheet styrene following stefans plans

watch this space!

fargin hell man. lookin good icehole.

can you believe the mouth on this guy?

Beautiful Nick, just beautiful. I can’t wait to see more.

On another note, could just be the angle of the picture but the powercell box looks a little crooked.

thanks guys! also i did notice the wonky-ness of the powercell box in thos photos but in real life its dead straight. must have just been the camera lens/angle.

I see that one of the fargin bastages here got my reference.

Wow, beautiful shell so far Nick. Great work man. Looking forward to this build.

Man that looks awesome so far.

Love working with styrene.

Looks beautiful so far Nick can’t wait to see more.

hey Nick looks great, are you still in search of a Cyclotron?? I can make u one if youd like. I found a perfect cake pan at Wal mart of all places…with the 1/2 inch bevel on the side, the corrected diameter, and height. Also I have accurate washers, Ill post pics of the one i made tomorrow for my pack if youd like.

Keep up the amazing work

Griff

that would be great if you could send me a pic Griff! would it be ok just to purchase the cake pan and washers from you?

Looks grand Nick, wish I had access to my tools/working area… Im getting so bored!

Did you not have any luck finding the plant pot tray at B&Q?

Lawrence

thanks Lawrence! i did go to my local BnQ and walked around the gardening section about 6 times and could no longer find the round trays at all. they used to have loads of them but now they are all square, waaay too small or made from polystyrene :frowning:

Looking great Nick! I can’t wait to see it!

I’ll have a look at my local next time I’m around there. If they have them then I’ll get one, even if you dont need it anymore Im sure somebody else will… Unless you’ve sorted something out already?

Lawrence

thanks Lawrence that would be great! let me know if you can get hold of one. im also going to see if Griff can sell me the cakepan he has found too so i can have a few options.

ENVY

Hey nick,

Just curious, how thick is the styrene you work with, and what do you use to stick it all together? I’m planning to order some styrene sheets next week and just want to get the right thickness.

Cheers man.

hi! the styrene i use is about 3.75mm thick. i use just normal superglue to glue it together. if you sand the edges to be glued first then the bond is very strong.

Cheers man, thanks for that

Is the stuff easy enough to shape and bend? Is heating involved?

Cheers for the q&a session btw

yeah its very easy to work with. can be sanded very smooth using fine grit sandpapers and can be bent into slight curves without the need of heat (as long as you use a former, a coffee mug helped me curve the part on the cyclotron after the 15th plate).
