my pack construction *NEW SHOTS PAGE 6!!*

Wow! Those are washers, nicely done Nick

I have to agree, I’m amazed that those are washers. That is awesome

I tought it was washer when I saw it in small, but with the paintjob, it really adds to it!!

How do you make the small scuff marks on the top? that’s the one thing I have a hard time making when I layer my paint.

i made the small scuff marks simply by spraying the whole thing with matte black paint then using a fine grade sandpaper to wear off most of it, only leaving a few spots here and there

Holy crap! NIce work Nick. That looks fantastic!

Wow! Nick that Ion knobs great!

What size washers did you get and where from? Had trouble finding any in DIY stores here in London.

Cheers

Luke

thanks luke!

i used 3 differnet sizes of washers for the knob. the main body is made from 40mm and 30mm washers threaded onto the bolt one after the other. the top washer is a 38mm washer with a larger central hole to allow for the bolt head.

I don’t recall the sizes I used, but the construction is very similar.

held with crazy glue, all I need now is some paintjob.

Damn, that looks almost as good as a machined one for a fraction of the cost too.

hey looks great where did you get your white led cap on the front of the gun, not the cliplite one, i used a tatoo ink cap for mine and spray painted it whtie which is a close alternative but i want one like yours haha.

my hat lights are built from scratch. i glued a piece of styrene tube to a washer, filled in the tube part and sanded it smooth. i think i few members here sell resin versions but i cant for the life of me remember who.

Awesome looking pack. This inspires me to work on my individual parts whilst I wait on my lights so I can complete my thrower and whilst waiting for the pack

My friends having a fancy dress house party for his 21st at the end of this month, so I guess this approach would give me the best possile chance of completeing my pack in time!

Cheers for the info Nick! Gonna get me some of those washers now!

Looking forward to seeing how the completed Pack turns out.

right another small update. just doing litte bits and pices to pass the time while i wait/save up for the larger parts.

got hold of some 1/4" loom and so have attached that to some of the various points. nothing too exciting im afraid but i really dont want to rush this build and just taking my time whil i get the funds together for the shell. anyway here are the pics…

Wow, that’s looking great! I’ve practically got everything apart from a shell myself. I should be getting started with the thrower next weekend. I don’t think my pack’ll be ready anytime before the end of october though :frowning:

But your parts look awesome!!!

thanks!

yeah i was hoping i would have my pack ready for halloween but sadly im not going to have it ready in time without rushing it and having a well built pack that im 100% happy with takes priority over having a rushed one for halloween.

good luck with your thrower

right ive taken a bit of a de-tour with my pack. i WAS going to wait until i could afford a fiberglass shell but after certain sellers being blacklisted and not knowing when MMM will have theirs ready i decided i would just see how hard it would be to scratch build one. i started off just making a mock-up of the gear box assembly and was rather happy with how it turned out so i then build the PPD and then the power cell box etc and then thought maybe i could layer something over these card parts with something that can be sanded and hide all the exposed card edges etc (i was thinking maybe fiberglass of something, need to look into the options for doing that a little later). well anyway at this point im just seeing if i cam get all the dimensions and proportions correct. here is what i managed to get done today. comments and advice welcome as always :)…

Looking great! I Wish I had the time and talent to scratch build a pack. It would work out a lot cheaper in the long run! I’m waiting on a shell and other parts from Irri but he doesn’t seem to be replying to my emails at the moment. He’s probably really busy!

But anyway, I’m watching this thread with interest as I’m getting a lot of inspiration from you!

Bring on the bank holiday!

Very Very nice Nick, thats shaping up to looking very nice

Griff

thankyou both for the kind words  much appreciated.

i only began making the gear box today as just a rough mock up to see how it looks with the other parts. was getting tired of laying out th ion arm etc on my carpet and trying to visualize the blank bits  but it came out much nicer than i was expecting so i decide to build all the other parts too. now im pretty sure this is the way im going to build my “shell”. only thing i need really is a way to make the cardboard look…well…not like cardboard haha. need something i can layer over it to hide the corrigation and edges etc. fiberglass strips? would that work?
