Well, tonight the girlfriend and I suited up and headed over to Mixer’s Club in town for the costume contest ($300!). Everyone there was really nice. Stopped us and said “Don’t cross the streams! Ghostbusters! ■■■■■■■ right on!”
Then we lost. Hard. Not even in the final 3. It might be because the announcer called us his “personal favorite” or the fact that none of our friends showed up to cheer for us. Really though, I think it was because there was a cluster of halloween ■■■■■ in front of the stage yelling, “Booo!”
I think it was about 3 years ago I lost to two girls dressed up as gangsta rappers. Basically they went to the store bought some cheap bling then went to wal mart and bought the costume bling and grills, flipped their hats to the side and wore jerseys. Go them?
The two judges were asking tons of questions when I got there (even weird ones like if I was an engineering major), so basically they seemed pretty astonished and I figured I had it in the bag. Well then came the results…
Here’s what you guys fail to remember about people/judges. They look at us with our awesome gear and there is a sense of jealousy over our ability to build the props and they see an over achiever with an opportunity to take us down a notch. This is one aspect. The other aspect is that these judges think they might get lucky if they let the “girls” win.
Yeah, last night just wasn’t our night. I do think that there is some jealousy over the care we put into our stuff, but when you’re underage in a club and drunk, I suppose you’d rather vote for your friends who dressed as giant jack and coke bottles. Or men wearing bunny costumes.
I remember one year this guy won that was dressed like a giant ■■■■■. now I was not mad over the fact I did not win but the fact that there were 2 other costumes that were not only creative but a lot of work went into them. one was Evel Knievel complete with one of those little motorcycles you see on those quarter kiddie rides outside of stores, he even had a working headlight and tail light. the other was the tin man from wizard of Oz and he made it from scratch with sheet metal.
When I wore my GB uniform to school, I won a $5 gift card to Starbucks. But, then again, I wasn’t competing against any of the aforementioned foes at school. I also won a $5 gift card to Sonic on camo day. I was robbed on western day and Hawaiian day though.
Most of the places I’ve been have separate contests for men and women, which gives dudes in great costumes a fighting chance. But if you’re a chick and not showing enough T&A you can fuhgeddaboudit.
I do have a Power Girl costume, but I’m not about to wear it around strange drunk guys who want to look at ■■■■■. >
I lent my pack to a friend of mine for his company’s costume contest. Everyone thought he had it in the bag, but he didn’t win a thing. The winner was a dancing raisin.
In a somewhat related/unrelated matter (depends on how you look at it); I entered a Halloween banner design contest on this other forum and my banner won with 23% of the vote. The next highest rated banner only received 5% of the vote, which means my banner surpassed the runner up by a margin of 18%. This was a landslide victory, so imagine my surprise when I go onto the website last night and discover that they used the second place banner and awarded that person the prize. I contacted the admin for an explanation and they told me the person who ran the site simply ignored the results of the poll and the opinions of the other admin and just didn’t like mine.
