Pepakura plans request

After researching this for over a week, I’m just going to throw this out here. I’m very very very interested in them. I want to make one of these. It seems like it would be a very good intro into resin and fiberglassing, as well. This style of building suits me very well. I’ve searched and searched for the Pep plans and they’re nowhere to be found. I’ve seen the legal notice to pull them from here so I’m using all of my Cop instincts and guessing there was some sort of drama involved. I’ve went to the end of the internet and back looking. Every place I see a glimmer of hope to download has some flavor of mal/ad ware attached to it. My request is sincere and my intentions are honest.

I know they’re out there…Is there anyone that is willing to share them?

Why didn’t I wander into this 5 years ago…

I’ll eat the plans after I build…

I’ll sign a non-disclosure agreement…

I hope I’m not stirring up a turd storm by asking…

IIRC To keep it simple. The individual who created those plans pulled them to since others were pro fitting from his work. Those that do have the plans have promised not to share them with anyone per the creators request.

The person who created those plans is banned from the community at the moment.

He has in the past granted permission for use in discussions with some persons with the promise that they will not distribute them.

You can try getting in contact with him if perhaps maybe Alan Hawkins would be willing to assist?

Any and all help would be appreciated. I just want to make it!

It’s really not my place to do that guys. Banned or not it’s his intellectual property. Your better bet is to help in the creation of the GBFANS pack plans. AJ has indicated that those may be converted to pep files.

You don’t need pep files to make a pep style pack. Pep just makes it easy because all the work is done for you, you just print, fold and glue. There are a bunch of different pack plans available here already and they can get you to the same place as a pep file if you put some time into them. You just have to use a ruler and a pencil to draw out the parts first and figure out where you want tabs, seams and connections. Even better, skip the whole paper thing and build it out of something decent like styrene or MDF and you can ignore the entire resin part of the project.

I doubt even if approached he would give them out.

I appreciate the input guys. They’re his plans and he obviously didn’t like what happened when he released them into the wild. I think it’s kinda cool he made a stand. Albeit I say this with very limited information. I hate that I missed them but it is what it is.

There’s def enough plans out there that I can get to where I’m going. I’m not lazy and I wasn’t looking for the easy way out. I’m not shy with a saw and ruler. I will admit I liked the idea that the wheel had been created and I didn’t need to recreate it just to get some resin and fibergalass experience under my belt.

Since I really only wanted them for the top parts of the pack, I think I can handle doing without them. The idea in my head was a bastardized version of pep, wood and aluminum anyway.

Integrity is important and I will not ask anyone to compromise just because I want to cut up some printed paper.

Apologies Alan, I know you had a good experience with him and his files

No apologies necessary. I just can’t act as an intermediate between him and the forum. It would just put us both in an awkward situation.

Actually Alan’s thread on that build was what sold me on the idea. I’ll just drive on in a slightly different course.

Everyone has already covered why the pep files won’t be shared so I won’t say anymore to that…

I personally didn’t agree with his banning…other then being loud and opinionated the creator of those files was always good to me and continues to be outside of GBfans. I don’t know all the details from other points of view though.

The gbfans plans can get you some great results though if you are handy with your tools and materials of choice. Good luck on your build and be sure to throw some photos up…especially if you come up with new ways to build it…innovation will definitely garner you some attention.

That was all before my time here. I don’t mean to resurrect old dirt and slinging.

It just seems like a good bridge between scratch build materials and full blown shell. I’m looking at it as a “starter shell”. It hit me as I was working on my little pack build. I used a foam core posterboard for the upper deck and layered plywood for the snych gen and cyclotron. It worked out nicely. I sealed it all with wood putty and sanded it all down.

We’ll see where it goes. I’'l probably gather some material and put pencil to paper this weekend.
