hey that’s pretty good! I may just buy one some day. ![]()
Two people were interested and bought kits from me. I’ve got enough parts to build a couple more kits but my short run of kits is probably finished. I don’t have the time/money to continue development. Get 'em while you can.
Also, a supplier of parts has risen their prices significantly on the key component of the circuit (the ultra bright LED that’s the staple of my kit). As a result, the kit price has gone up to $160 so I don’t lose money the kits.
Where does that single bright white blinking LED go?
If that’s for the top vent holes, Isn’t it supposed to be a constant “on” light?
Russ
There’s a blinking white indicator light next to the white vent light on the proton gun.
I don’t remember that light ever flashing in the movies…
Here is Playskool2000’s great reference pics that detail the idea a bit better, for those questioning the lighting:
And the original link that isn’t resized:

I think the board you made is good and correct for the lighting sequence. I think Hyperdyne’s board has that blinking white LED as well, but don’t quote me on it. I only have Exoray’s excellent board for the pack right now.

Thanks for the clarification Brock. I thought the vent light and the blinky were the same thing. Super bright that blinky is. ![]()

I retract the comment.
A beautiful lighting kit, if the video is a testement of it’s brightness. ![]()
Sorry to be a kill-joy guys but I don’t think Playskool2000’s reference diagram is entirely screen accurate. If you watch the scene where they battle Gozer at the end of GBI the lighting on the gun is as follows: On idle (switched on) the static red light above the “slo-blo” label is illuminated, the amber bar graph is illuminated in an upward cycling motion, the static orange light on his diagram is actually a static white light in the film and there is no flashing white light (on diagram) illuminated - this is there but turned off. When they energize the proton wand it is with the lower switch of the two switches to the right of the handle (NOT the lower of the two switches to the left of the handle!!) , this is flicked upwards. Having energized the wand this switch then illuminates the white light inside the vent, with all the other lighting staying the same. Having watched both GBI & GBII you never actually see this white LED flashing at any point - it is always switched off.
Furthermore from watching the court scene in GBII you can see that the on/off switch for the wand is actually the “activation” switch on his diagram (the lower toggle switch to the left of the handle). The “Intensify” switch is correct as this fires the proton gun but the one marked on the plans as “Main Power Swtich” is never actually used in either film at all. When the Ghostbusters switch on the Proton Gun in GBII you may ask why the white Vent light switches on automatically without the lower red toggle switch to the right of the handle being flicked as in GBI. Having studied this I suspect this is due to the lower toggle switch to the right of the handle already being in the upwards (on) position hence the vent light is already switched on and the Proton Gun energized.
Well I hate to burst your bubble but you didn’t watch them enough. If you watch the scene where the go to visit the Vigo painting, you can see Winston’s pack with all the lights on, including the blinking white one on the top of the gun. It’s not on that often that all the lights are on, but they are there.
Cole,
I stand corrected with my tail between my legs…of the embarrasment!! Ive just watched it and you are right!
Okay! Guys, I’m trying to produce a $100 gun kit that’s stripped down. Would anybody want these stripped down gun kits?
They wouldn’t include the switches or ultra-bright white light that I’ve been including, but they would have the bargraph a slightly “less bright” white vent light, no switches (just the leads for the switches), and the same old blinker and all lights. Anyone game?
Also, my pack kits are also for sale if anybody wants any.
I don’t really get it, how can somebody make a detailed drawing like that and still get the position of the buttons wrong?
Here’s the scene from GB1 on the roof at 1080p.
Can any one point me to a definitive thread on the proton wand functioning?
EDIT: O dear that thread was from 7 years ago. Oh well the question still stands though.
Being that the drawing is from 2006 it doesn’t surprise me that there are issues.
Here is the switch layout:
Activate: turns on power to pack and gun lights
Intensify: lights barrel lights
Top toggle near bar graph: turns on vent light (also “activated” the gun in the film, like a safety I presume)
Bottom toggle: no use as far as on screen. Usually used for VG vent sound on fan made packs
I hope this helps you out. Pease look at how old a thread is before asking questions in it next time though.
The answer is it’s inconsistent in the movie and depends on what pack you’re looking at in what scene and whether it was a “real” activation or a “movie” activation IE: the elevator scene.
Yeah sorry.
But you mention:
Bottom toggle: no use as far as on screen. Usually used for VG vent sound on fan made packs
While in the screenshot I provided Ray clearly uses the bottom right toggle to activate the sound and turn on the vent light…?
Correct, though It’s Winston holding the thrower in the shot.
Zombie thread much? Did the OP ever deliver these things?
If Thiago ever realised his plan (very unlikely), it wouldn’t have been posted here as he’s been blacklisted and banned from the forum. For lights, look for Jupiter Electronics or the other retailers available in the Marketplace.
This thread has no purpose.
