how to make that clear tube pop out at the end of the proton wand.

being that the guy only has 2 posts, I’d think he’s asking.

I’d be interested to see how people made theirs pop out without getting damaged.

I’ve thought up an easy mechanism that i will put togethe next time i make a gun for myself i’ll probably make a tutorial for it too. But its not too hard to work out when you think about it mechanically.

I made a mechanism ages ago which basically involves a spring loaded “button” (a pop rivet and a spring from a pen). The pop rivet is contained inside the clear tube, with the head of the rivet exposed through a hole in the barrel. When you press the pop-rivet, a bigger spring at the back of the clear tube (from a toilet roll holder) extends the tube from the barrel.

Any chance of showing us how that’s done? I want to have an extending barrel when I start to build mine.

Here’s a pic of it broken down:

The dowl is secured to the barrel, with two holes drilled down through the guts of the dowl. One hole has a string threaded through it to provide an anchor for the plastic tube to prevent it from flying out the end of the barrel. The other hole is for the screw that secures the barrel to the gun body.

Inside the acrylic tube is a 3/4" section of plastic ball-point pen with a pen spring and a pop-rivet contained in the 3/4" pen tubing. This is the “button” for releasing the acrylic tube, and also secures it when it’s in the loaded position

The outer main barrel has a hole drilled in it for the “button”. When the tube is pushed in, the button pops up through the hole and holds the tube in place. Press the button, and the tube extends.

Cool idea, you could also use those release buttons you see on vacuum cleaner wands. The button has a built in spring. That coupled with the rest of your mechanism would be sure to work with ease.
