hi all. finally got around to getting a pack light kit from Exoray this year. got the lights all in, but i’m not quite sure where to place the c-cell battery pack. i know i could put it on the back of the mobo near the top like in GB2, but that would cover up my danger sticker. any suggestions? what worked/didnt work for you guys? thanks for the feedback!
I have my battery pack’s isolated in different places inside the pack shell. The problem with my pack shell is that its a resin shell, and its not exactly flat or smooth inside. I made some adjustments to my pack using the dremmel tool, and by pouring some Alumilite resin to make flat areas where I could securely mount my battery packs. I’m actually thinking of running the power externally, and puttnig my battery packs outside the pack, on the back side of the motherboard just above the kidney pad for the alice frame. It should be hidden there, and provide easy access for charging and re-charging without having to dismantle my proton pack each time I need to heat up the batteries.
thanks for the reply. my pack is made of mdf constructed pieces, so i dont have the space you have, but i did find a way…i was able to fanagle enough room under the booster tube to place the electronics and the batt pack using velcro. i was gonna do like you said and place the batt pack on the mobo above the kidney pad, but it was too big to fit there. i would have liked to have the batts mounted externally for ease of replacement, but oh well.
I have a vacuformed shell and a MMM motherboard.
I hot glued mine onto the MB.

I am currently toying with the idea of creating a “lumbar pad” of batteries along the base up against my back, between the motherboard and the alice frame. Not exactly accurate but easy to replace and not really visible when its on your back.
My frame comes in today so I can better estimate the effectiveness of this solution.
My lighting is custom (I’m hacking Dollar Toy stores). Two of the gun’s systems have their batteries in the gun box. The batteries for the gun meter, the power cell and cyclotron are located in a battery case mounted on the outside of the motherboard behind the kidney strap.

I was using D-Cells for increased amp-hours so it will be bigger than that. Still looks like there is plenty of room, however.
They are for increased capacity, with those packs you should be able to do a whole convention or night on the town without any issues… My light kits will run off anything from 6 volts to 24 (the sound kit that requires 12 volts)
In short yes it’s a lot of batteries, but for good reason…
A typical 9 volt battery has a 625 mAh rating (you can run my kits off a 9 volt just fine)
‘c’ cells have a 8350 mAh rating
That means the ‘c’ cells in my kits will last 13 times longer then a 9 volt, that is a huge difference…
I just plan on using a 6v lantern battery. The cheap ones are just an array of 32 AA batteries. My math puts that at around 22Ah(wiki says 26Ah). May not give the volts for the sound kit, but should power the pack for quit awhile.
This is off topic, but can I just hook up multiple 9volts to my pack to make it last longer?
I would just buy a 3000 mah or larger NiMH rechargable R/C car battery..
7.2 volts.. and will last a LONG time. Also very light weight..
It has been what I’ve been using.. I just place it on the alice pack and it has a connector that can easily be charged. 15-30 minutes is all you need to get it charged up with a quick charger.

That is so 90s : ) but as cheap and easy alternative…
If you are going go to entertain the above route may I suggest you at least take a look at the new RC LIPO packs… They are compact and depending on how much you want to spend the amp hours can be extreme and if you purchase them directly from China on Ebay the prices are fair… You need to search around Ebay though as most of the ones up there are really low mAh, usually 1000-2000 but there are better ones out there… I just picked up two 5000 mAh 11.1 volt ones and a charger for under $50 delivered last month… They measure about 3/4" thick, by 1 7/8" wide by 5 1/2"

Sure as long as you hook them up parallel, that means + to + and - to - so that it remains at 9 volts but you add the Ah rating…
If I new enough to make a trickle charger that wouldn’t fry a battery… I get batteries all sorts from work. We change them every two years weather or not they need it. Most of the defibs are between 2-4Ah and are Li-Ion or NiMh

Yep cars, helicopters and planes… It revolutionized the RC helicopter field as now there are fully 3d acrobatic electric helicopters that ignore gravity for the most part…
Do a youtube search for Alan Szabo and just shake your head and be amazed that an electric heli can do what you see…
