**Does anyone even care about this at this point?
Will they use the classic Ray Parker Jr. version.. **

or go with Miley Cyrus? ..I mean, since we’re gender swapping everything anyway, right?

I would be happy with a new song with maybe the Ray Parker Jr theme making a brief appearance elsewhere in the movie
Note: Sorry about removing the gif of Miley Cyrus, but it was genuinely disturbing.
I could probably see a remix of the original them possibly being used in the reboot, but I can also see with them going for a new cover.
HA! You aren’t kidding.
I’m hoping that the original will be there at some point. Title screen and end credits would be cool!
The problem with the original was having to pay out royalties, correct? Was that ever settled with Huey Lewis?
It was settled out of court in '84, I believe. The song was used in GB2, so who knows. I’m sure they would definitely have to pay royalties for the use. To me, the song is just as iconic as the logo, packs, car, etc. Fingers crossed!
I would love it if they could somehow track down the Pat Thrall and Glenn Hughes theme song, and use that…
Call me a traitor if you wish. I only thought it would be interesting if the original song was playing on a radio in the background somewhere, just a few seconds of it. A sort of blink and you’d miss it thing.
That would be kind of a joke and not a funny one. I imagine they’ll probably do a remix like Run DMC did with the sequel however the sequel did have the original Ray Parker Jr. version as well so here’s hoping.
“If there’s something not quite right, in the surrounding area near your house, who are you going to give a phone call? Those b#stards!”
All depends of the quality of the remix if they go that routh.
Don’t want an entirely new theme without the original somewhere in there…
Get Justin Biebs behind the mic asap!
Please anyone other than the Biebs!
They might as well find a way to shoehorn in the original theme as a “Haha remember this song!? It was in the original movie!? Remember!?” God knows they’ve already thrown in every reference imaginable.
This movie has SO many in-jokes that I don’t know how you can actually enjoy the original elements when every 10 minutes something is going to pop up and remind you that this is just a remake. We have what now…
Good lord! That means every half hour of the film will have some callback to the original! Marvel usually does a one and done quick cameo (Lou Ferrigno) and takes you back to the film. But this is an asinine amount of references to the original. I’ve written on this before but the idea of using the original actors is bad-news-bears. Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson ARE the Ghostbusters; could you imagine if Harrison Ford made an appearance as some bit part in a bar in the Force Awakens? It’s damaging to the idea of “starting over” when you are constantly reminding the viewing audience “Hay, remember the original and how these guys were the stars?”
Even if, say, each reference/injoke had an average run of four minutes (and I think I’m being generous with that estimate), that still only accounts for 24 minutes in total out of a… if I had to hazard a guess, probably a two-hour minimum running time (though they might try for three).
And I’m not of the mind that all those references/injokes will be that long. They probably won’t be drastically distracting.
All female Boot, why not the song too. Think Taylor Swift or something along the lines.
Foo Fighters?
I am of the opinion that the Reboot is going to be a huge failure, and it is also my opinion that the Ray Parker Jr. song should be kept as far away from this movie as possible.
Hmmmmm…use the Extreme Ghostbusters theme maybe.
I want OK Go to create a new theme ala Run-DMC for the movie…
…mainly just to see the completely bonkers music video that would accompany.
