Oooh cant wait to get one!
Well, we definitely agree that “close” is a subjective term.
I just don’t think its insulting to anyone. Every person here who has made their own pack should be proud of it. And yes, I actually mean everyone, not even the most accurate ones. I think that’s a tremendous feat to create your own pack/wand. If anyone who builds their own stuff is that wrapped up in what they’ve done that they can’t take pride in it because someone else made something that is an official “replica” then I think there’s a bigger issue at play. No one should be insulted by this. Its really no different than someone else who built a pack and calls theirs a replica. Every pack is a replica. No pack except the movie-used ones is authentic, because its not made by the exact same materials that the prop department used. So I reiterate, everyone who has made their own pack before should hold their head up high and be proud of what they’ve done. A large toy corporation putting out a mass produced replica doesn’t take anything away from what you or anyone else has built/accomplished.
At the same time, I still don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone offer a wand with lights, sounds, and an extending tip for anywhere near $130, but I could definitely be wrong on that.
A-MAZING! Can NOT wait to get my hands on this.
This might be strange, but I’m just hoping for a trap reissue simular to the PKE.
First of all, the mystery item under the sheet looks like something small set in front of a crate box like the trap came in, to me at least. Everyone is lead to think whatever is under there should naturally go with our present surprise, but I doubt that’s the case. Maybe a gigameter or a wand/slime scoop like Ray had in the river of slime tunnel? I’m guessing it’s not a pack, either way, though such a thought is way less far fetched now that this cat is out of the bag.
And on that note, if it is something like a gigameter (i.e., not a pack), wouldn’t it be more fun to show that off now, then blow everybody away with the thrower surprise instead of the other way around? Nevermind, I’m getting way too far ahead here.
I’ve said before that Matty Collector has seen the last dollar they’d get out of me, but man this makes me reconsider that statement, at least for now. A wand with sound, movement, lights, all self contained, at around $130 is a great deal, whether you call it a toy or a prop replica. I’m in the process of acquiring a Venky shell and aluminum parts for it, adding my power cell and cyclotron lights and a few more accurate parts, but I’ve budgeted the next year of time and money for my thrower. I’d wanted to go aluminum with that as well, with as many accurate parts to go on it as I can afford, and I still may do that, but I’d conceded that I’d still not be able to have lights, sounds, and push button movement functionality out of it. So I could have all the cool functions on a “toy” for $130, or go way more accurate yet not have any bells and whistles at all for a few hundred. Purists would fight me if I mixed the Matty wand with the pack I mentioned, but this is something I only drag out a few times a year, and nobody that ever sees it would know the difference until I tell them. I proudly use my Matty trap and PKE meter when in uniform, so how would this be any different. I’d be tempted to trade out some of Matty’s parts with those I already have on hand if possible, though (Clippard, banjos, heat sink, trigger tip, knobs, etc).
Anyhoo, I, and perhaps many of you, have a lot to think about with this being revealed. Let’s all just hope that the production result matches the wow factor of the booth version, and hopefully we can hide those screw holes on the underside.
That’s my $.02. I reserve the right to flip flop on this an infinite number of times.
I am not too keen on the thrower, might get one for my wife and her gear once we get around to building that.
Somehow I do feel a bit hopefull that throught this surprise Matty might also put some more effort into the figureline again. Matty has been a huge disappointment the past few years, hope they can finally make some sensible decisions
I forgot to add that I’m still disappointed with the look of the goggles and will not get those. Easy pass now that I know that a thrower will be for sale for a similar price.

Thanks to xXECTOXx for the concept! ![]()
It does look like a fun toy, but I’m with Cooke.
I hope to God there’s a slime scooper under that sheet. That’s one prop I think we could all use more of…
Ok guys. I was able to handle the new thrower from Matty tonight. While it is no where near the quality that we build here, it is a nice toy. It has great sound, bright lights, and some cool playability. It is no where near 100% accurate but after what has happened with the goggles its a huge step forward in my eyes. The first thing I noticed was that it is heavily based on a GB2 Semi Hero thrower. It has the 2 rivits on the trigger box side that would have held the light board in the semi hero’s and it also has the space between the trigger box and the gun body filled in like the semi hero throwers did. It is very light and feels plasticy, as a toy should, but I wouldn’t say it feels cheap. They have done some homework as it has a very nice Clippard Valve replica with label and it has “hatlights” on the step and the ear. For some reason on top of the gun is a black bump where the hat light should be. The extention mechanism seems to be an electric solenoid. My biggest complaint is the barrel lights. They look like they should be in the Hello Kitty pack and not a “prop replica”. The bar graph scrolls, the arcolectric light blinks, it has power up and down sounds, it has stream on and off sounds, its a great toy. The one I saw was being called “close to production”. They had a full black prototype version that was just static as well.
All of that being said, I would give Matty a B+ overall as far as the toy goes. If you look at it as a prop the grade goes much lower.
I will try to get some pics of the prototype for everyone tomorrow. For now there is 2 videos up on the Ghostbusters of Southern California facebook page that will show you the lights, sounds, and barrel extension.
Cool toy.
Guess the Giga meter is next…
For the mystery item, since there are pictures of the other released props in the back ground as some one mentioned but nothing else new, and it’s size, I’m betting it’s a “tool kit” to store all the items together…

i think everyone is incorrect… i think the Friday reveal will be the ghost sniffer
It’s a KUD meter using a replica spatula.
You’re welcome.
I dig it. Now mind you, I’m still digging building my own wand, but if I could spend more time and effort on that build and create something to be proud of, then I’d dig to have the Matty prop as a convention thrower which I won’t be afraid to get scratched and bumped.
It boggles my mind that they took the time and research to add an extending barrel feature, but they couldn’t get the color of the tubing on the tip correct. Weird.
Honestly, I think its a full pack. The V hook is built on the Wand, and looks pretty sturdy… But yes it could be just for detail purpose… BUT If you also look at the photo of the mystery item… Picture a Pack laying on its back with the Alice Frame facing upward… You can see a possible shape under the sheet for the Alice straps and kidney strap and the top curve of the Alice frame itself… Mattel could have done this to avoid the fans knowing the iconic shape of a pack under a sheet, so to ■■■■ us they would flip it upside down… so I think its a Pack, Though the only issue we see is the scale of size… But this isnt the best photo to be using for sense of size either keep in mind… I think we’ll have a Wand and a Pack being released. and Mattel teasing this Friday’s prop announcement “The Biggest Ghostbusters Product Release We’ll Ever Have” is a dead give away honestly. I doubt it’ll be a sniffer or scooper or a giga… They wouldnt label such an item as “The Biggest Release” they have…
For the Wand, ill end up buying it because of a great price… and if its a Pack under that sheet, and the price is good, and the sounds and lights and vibrations and whatnot it could offer… and for the good price, I might pick one up too, just to collect and have for the ■■■■ of things. and would be a cool to have as your own “Stunt Pack” for certain purposes or activities…
As far as if its a pack under the cloth…doubtful, its far too small for that. As for possible guesses as to what’s under there…
Behind the display is the 30th anniversary logo, its the only display that has that behind it.
So, it would more than likely be a GB1 based prop.
As Joe stated, they have 2 working prototypes of the wand on display, one that’s all black that did light up and demo the popping barrel, and then the close to finished model of the thrower which seems to have all the lights and features.
Scale wise the thrower is pretty close to the real thing.
What the hell?! I’m out of the scene for around 2 years, i decide to renovate my pack and finally assemble the electronics i have and enquire with people about buying pack/wand lights…and then matty do this…
well i’m a sucker i’ll probably buy one or two of them…
However i am interested to see if we could gut the matty electronics to install into our wands
i’ll be watching this closely
also hey everyone who’s name i recognise
(which is only a handful, man i was gone a long time)
