I wish people would stop with the “true fan” . You are a fan or you are not, there is no “True”.
Now that been said, I’m not particularly fond of the new car either but the first time I saw the Proton pack (if its still called that) I knew there was no way they were going to use a 1959 meteor. I also knew that whatever car they chose would not turn out resembling the Original Ecto-1 in anyway. Maybe it’ll look better in the movie.
I hate the look of the car. BUT, it honestly doesn’t look that bad on the street and it probably won’t look bad on film where all you will see are quick, partial shots. Again I am going to say that all of these leaked images are not helping the cause.
Is it me or would the car look a lot better with a couple checker cabs mixed into traffic?
The original Ecto fit Ray’s personality…This new one fits Gilbert’s, who’s kinda punky and DIY.

What I am trying to say is that I love this series to the point where I criticize it because I care about it and don’t wait to see it fail. There are some fans that just blindly like anything and everything just because it has the name of the franchise they love. That’s like saying I love every Star Trek show on television because I’m a fan. I love Star Trek, but don’t like Enterprise because I don’t approve of the direction it went. That’s all I’m saying.
I honestly haven’t seen any of those fans on these boards, though. Most everyone I’ve seen who are for the film are cautiously optimistic or genuinely like what they’ve seen. I do, however, notice some folks who are blindly hating the film. Not the majority, but they’re out there.
I don’t like the reboot ecto. Not one bit.
I could like it if it weren’t for the fact they made the default yellow siren 4x bigger than on the original model of car.
Hmmmm…New York Ecto-1 plates and filming on the streets of Boston. Am I missing something here? Or should they film parts of this reboot in New York City?
Most movies are rarely filmed in the city they’re supposed to take place in.
tl;dr
The common movie goer can’t tell the difference between the streets of NY and Boston.
To that I say: To each their own.
As I have looked over this new Ecto my biggest complaint is the gigantic yellow light. Too big for my tastes and I don’t care for it being yellow. Just my opinion. I would’ve went with a lightbar(or two) possibly in purple/green if not in blue or blue/red.
Incidentally, I’ve watched Terminator 3 and, unless I am very wrong, a very similar model of the hearse used for the new ecto features in the movie. It is a taller model, and it was all black, predictably. Surprisingly I felt it had a lot of screen presence. Much more than what I felt by just looking at the pics and leaked amateur videos. The right angles may be able to do the car some justice.
I’ve watched T3 numerous times and know the car/scene you are speaking of. What stood out for me was the scene, not the car. The scene was exciting with a ton of action, that I remember. The car was just another black Hearse and never made an impression one me. There is nothing that will make me like this new Ecto. It hasn’t grown on me in the least bit, in fact I find I like it less daily.
What if the new car transforms into a giant, robotic, John Belushi complete with Proton gun hands and auto dispensing trap?

One of my goals after the video game was to take the Ecto-1B model and chop it up to be a Transformer. We laid out the transformation so everything would be in the right place but never had the time to actually finish it.
oh well.
Wow. Story wise, what could have prompted that in the (hypothetical sequel) videogames?
It just looks…bad. Ugh…shame on this mess of a production. I’m trying my best to be optimistic…but it’s getting harder and harder each day.

My I guess hopeful thoughts on the new ecto, after hearing dan say he has a cameo is that as he gestured, passes the torch to them and gives them access to his basement with Egons old stuff (new PKE) and (hopefully) the old Ecto gathering dust.
This could be the car they start with and later at the end of the film they get the original car.
