Yeah the old stuff and characters are in a different timeline, and to be honest, I think that’s best. Outside of the name and logo, let these new projects stand on their own feet. If anything, the new uniforms and car aren’t different enough.
Peter and Ray exist. The old stories are canon in a way that the more detail-oriented fans will recognize.
They won’t be sharing tech or making it a story point unless the film does good and the second one hits the green light. That’s when you’ll see Batman V Superman level cross-over stuff.
Right now, this film is written to stand on its own(in case the sequel doesn’t green light) and is being written with back-doors and story notes that can ALLOW for the old movies to be part of history. From this film’s perspective, these characters are the only Ghostbusters. It’s about the new team. The old team returns to history when this movie makes money.
I just hope they are going to be the same characters. However, if they are just going to be in-joke cameos that would *also * make sense as well if this is truly going to be a separate universe and. Like what they did with Star Trek 2009, in order to garrner new fans and old ones, they had to include Leonard Nimoy, but he indeed played Spock Prime, and was not just playing a different character, so perhaps you’re right and they will be Peter and Ray again. Who knows. Only time will tell at this point.
This is Sony we’re talking about. I expect they’ll shoehorn Bill Murray into most of the trailers. I’m still expecting confirmation that it’s in the shared universe, but just features a new team that doesn’t directly link to the originals.
For the next one, cast Pratt as Venkman’s kid(Oscar Venkman?) and have him go nuts. Cecily Strong as Melanie Ortiz, the government agent who continues to cover up the Ghostbusters is now forced to declassify them as both teams are needed to handle a huge threat.
There’s your money. Pete, Ray, and Winston hire new guys, Winston trains them. The Feig and Pratt teams join together as Ghost Corps International.
My thoughts are these: is there anyone out there who thinks the Ecto-1 will make or break this movie? What I mean is, if you see problems with this movie, is the car really top of the list? I doubt it.
That being the case then, I don’t understand why they’ve bothered getting Dan Akyroyd in to do a cameo, even if it is just a small background role, talk about finding every possible way to ruin a franchise huh? he’s in the new GB, but he’s not Ray Stantz. Is Feig literally mental
I agree with this. I suspect it has to do with Dan wanting to do it. That’s fine, it will be a bit like Stan Lee appearing in those Marvel movies for a second. Not really something I’m excited about though. I have ambivalent feelings about original Ghostbusters appearing in this new movie, but not as their original GB characters. Seems a bit of a waste.
I don’t approve of this movie period. There’s no reason they couldn’t just have a sequel that has the plot of Extreme Ghostbusters with Ray in the place of Egon plus Winston with Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson reprising their roles since they’re the only ones up for it. Regardless of Fans Bill Murray has made it abundantly clear he won’t come back for a Ghostbusters movie. So they might as well have Ray and Winston trying to find a new team to take over the business.
I’m actually surprised Sony didn’t do this either. Afterall, Extreme Ghostbusters was the most profitable GB cartoon ever and revitalized the franchise, and united the fanbase… oh wait.
Extreme Ghostbusters came at the wrong time. The nerd market was crashing and people weren’t feeling 80’s nostalgia just yet. The studio also went down pretty quick when Men in Black and Godzilla didn’t do well as cartoons.
Where to begin without sounding rabid…? I looked carefully at the shots of this car and just felt disheartened… Not that I had any heart in the reboot to begin with, mind you.
To me it looks like a station wagon driven through a rummage sale, then a paint factory… I just can’t like it no matter how hard I try. The roof equipment just looks like a jumbled up mess of nothing, including the 5 gallon paint bucket on front, and an LED lightbar on back? WHY??? Then you let the chrome details strike across the ghostbusters logo? I nearly wept…
Feig’s butthurt comments on twitter don’t help, and he has no idea why those of us against the film are against it…
The WHOLE THING could be saved and salvaged with just ONE little tweak. EVERY bit of it could be forgiven and make the movie likeable/acceptable in the fans’ eyes, the new cast, equipment, car, uniforms, everything; change it to a different location and make it a franchise. Boom. Collect your money printer, hollywood.
We’ve been making fan Ecto’s and fan films for years, all as different franchises. Simple as that.
Hell, my new Ectomobile looks better than this one, and it’s only halfway done x.x;
