thoughts on the new ecto?

Most cinema goers today don’t even know a previous version of the Ghostbusters movie existed. They would say a different franchise of what?

That’s not true at all.

Nope, not even close… little kids still recognize it… most people still know what the Ecto looks like… some of them have never seen the movie, but are still well aware of the logo, car and even Stay Puft…

Funny how some people keep referring to a station wagon when it’s a hearse. As for the Roof equipment it definetly looks less refined than the original and I think that’s the look they were going for. If everything was made by the Ghostbusters then it should look like it was home made. Does the original car look better? Absolutely. But If you are busting on a budget it would take a while for equepmemt to look more refined and funds come in from each bust.

If this is about the A-Hole whoes been trolling Feig for MONTHS I would’ve told him to go forth an multiply himself a long time ago.

You have a build thread? I’d like to see how it looks.

Yeah 18-25’s will definitely know the logo but the whole story of Gb1 and franchising etc. I think will be foreign to them. I hope I’m wrong though.

With the new Ecto (apart from that yellow bucket) the biggest questionmark for me is how thought through it is. When they interviewed Aykroyd on the 2015 blu ray during the Ecto 1 restoration he went on about how parts of the roof equipment were muon scrubbers and stuff. I liked how it was so enthousiastically thought through by him.

I sadly don’t have a build thread. This is the first time I’ve been on GBFans in years. Had some bad experiences with trolls and the like.

I can’t say I blame feig for lashing out at the trolls, but honestly it seems like he’s lashing out at our beloved movie… He’s not going to ruin our childhood but I am honestly terrified that it will be so bad that it will wreck the originals and make being a ghostbuster rather unpopular…

Also, I just looked at some closeups of the new car on another thread. Yes, I know it’s a hearse, but it does look too close to the station wagons of the mid 80’s. And that tank with the nuclear sticker on it… It’s so obviously a propane tank, I can’t help but wonder if they bought it from hank hill… lol

That’s your idea of ‘one little tweak’?

Basically rewrite the whole story, recast to include the original crew, and change shooting locations?

Yeah ok. Sounds reasonable.

Generally ‘one little tweak’ is more along the lines of 'get rid of the yellow light on Ecto.

It’s the odd paint job and squared/angular features. The “stripes” running down the sides make it look like It came out of a National Lampoon Vacation movie.

Here’s the thing though, you don’t need to include the original cast at all. You’d need maybe a flashback scene to Venkman saying “The franchise rights alone will make us rich beyond our wildest dreams” and then maybe a voiceover narrative about franchises becoming more and more popular. The story and everything else could be the same, so yes I consider that one little tweak.

You know Murray and anyone in that clip will still have to be paid even for a flashback, right?

That’s how Hollywood works.

Also, the story wouldn’t be the same. The current story has nothing to do with them being a franchise. The current world doesn’t know anything about Ghostbusters. This story is about them coming up with the idea. So yes, it would all have to be changed.

Also, changing location is not a simple task either. So no, it’s not a little tweak.

And that right there (them coming up with the idea) is what I hate about the reboot.

While I can appreciate your dislike of the reboot, please keep the descriptions clean. And for the record, their initial reasons for making the reboot may have been severely misguided, but they aren’t making it in order to adversely affect the original movies.

Apologies.

Sure seems like it to me though

You know, I’d agree with you a couple of weeks ago but I was working down the street from the gym wearing a Ghostbusters II t-shirt. I passed some 9/10 year old school group and one kid saw my t-shirt and shouted “oh Ghostbusters!”. So I was a bit surprised by that.

The only age group that seems totally ignorant to it seem to be 4 year olds and some teenage girls in the 15s range.

The video game helped expose it, plus the comic books and Netflix. Parents rewatching it on streaming services.

I actually emailed my state government about this and they said the blue lights aren’t street legal for non emergency vehicles. They probably went with amber to make it easier for the inevitable replica builders to be within the law.

I get similar reactions to my custom uniform shirt.

Yea, that’s not it at all. That’s shockingly strange that you would believe that. They have shooting permits. They can put any color they want on it, which is why the rear LED bar is red and blue.

My mistake then.

Blah, didn’t think about what I said, but I said nothing about the actual movie production, I said replica builders, as in people who DON’T have shooting permits or can’t get permits to have the iconic blue lighting on their builds.
