Alright, my want for movie accuracy has not yet been satisfied, with any of my props. Now it may happen with my new uniform, a close to movie accurate GB2 uniform.
Here’s a quick list of what my first uniforms were.
1st. Olive Drab Coveralls
Olive Drab Pistol Belt
Rain Boots
Black Elbow Pads
2nd. Light Grey Coveralls
Khaki Pistol Belt
Leg hose, but no leg hose connecter
Military Combat boots
Non Accurate Gray Elbow Pads
Don’t forget the Lifegard II PASS Alarm, as it is one of the distinguishing features of the GB2 belts. Also, the Leg Hose is left clear for the GB2 khaki suits.
Incorrect. The movie belt was all custom made, with an oversized buckle. The one in the shop is not accurate, but the closest thing available commercially.
I didn’t say that the belts sold in the shop were 100% accurate. I was merely using them as a frame of reference for the general style of the belts used in GB2. Both belts are very similar in design except that the screen-used belts are thinner on the actors’ right side and have a slightly smaller buckle than the ones sold in the shop.
In addition, the screen-used belts were not as rigid as their modern counterparts, which would not scrunch up like Egon’s (upper left corner) by hanging a P.K.E. Meter or similar piece of equipment from the belt. These current belts are made from a heavy-duty nylon.
The modern belts are also a lot smaller. The thinner portion you see is actually seatbelt fabric. I’ll post some pictures of my belt, as I was in on the research with Austin the belt you cited above.
I can tell you, the screen used belts were completely custom made.
That being said, the black belts offered here are the cheapest and most easily available substitutes if you don’t want to do the work of custom making a belt.
Thanks for all of the complements. A couple of things have changed instead of a khaki suit, I’m going to dye it and hopefully have a GB2 gray. Which is my dream uniform, but with my lack of experience I wasn’t going to do a GB2 uniform. What changed? The flight suit I bought turned out to be a Rothco. Not entirely my fault, they didn’t have the brand name anywhere on the page. I’m using Spooky’s dye recipe to dye my Rothco. Also with the free shipping and having to change the size of the suit after ordering, it’s taken considerably longer to get the suit and belt than I anticipated.
Anyways, I got good news and progress! I picked up some non accurate key chains at a local hardware store. I spray painted them black, it’s amazing how cheap black paint can adhere to leather. I got drips on one of them, I think I can sand it and fix it. Also got my elbow pads finished, at least I thought. I ripped the sewing thread keeping the excess material inside the pads, and the lint razer took off more than expected. Some elastic thread, and acrylic paint should take care of everything. The good news part is that thanks to Slimeguy, I’m gonna have a working Lifeguard!
Here’s a pict of some of the stuff I have thus far.
I know, ok? But I was wanting one anyway so I thought, I could just do it. The hose is gonna be clear, like those seen on the GB2 khaki. So it’s still somewhat true to the second movie.
Just add some nylon webbing, and you’re good to go. Personally, I think the V-ring is the most practical way to hold your neutrona wand on your belt; the hook on the bottom of the gun nicely slots into the V-ring.
I’m not sure if you planned on making a GB2 belt or not, but I just thought I’d throw it out there. The ID badge is a nice touch.
If you are going to paint that, be sure to spend the extra few dollars and get the Krylon Fusion and a clear-coat. If not, you definitely want to be careful cleaning, because some cleaning supplies will take the black off of the LifeGard portion.
