Does anyone know the location of the power switch on the left hand side of the Proton Pack. It is the one that Egon uses to “Switch me on” for Ray in the elevator in the hotel. Cus I have not seen it on the pack plans that are on here. But I might have over looked it.

Exactly right…its not there. I actually did add one on my pack though. I’ll post pics on my pack thread soon, so keep an eye out. But I think the switches on the gun is supposed to turn the whole pack on. Thats what I always thought.

Egon seems to hit a switch located on the Power Cell, but no such switch exists, just a visual cue for the elevator gag with Spengler and Venkman backing up perturbed by the ominous powering up sound.
I understand that the prop did have a screw head that was pushed on (but I may be mistaken). My first pack did include a functional button the power cell -it turned on the lights in the power cell. You can see it in this picture:

I have wondered about the mysterious switch for a while, too. When I watched the elevator scene in slowmo you will see egons hand struggle and then abruptly twist. I always thought the “switch” was like one of those twist knobs on an old television. Either way it will be incorporated on my first pack.
That’s where my switch is located too, using Exoray’s pack lights.
this GBII pack has a switch on the back, but probably not the switch you’re looking for.
have to admit though…it is the coolest “on” sound in the history of scifi props
Puts a smile on my face everytime I see that part. The sound is just awesome! I think that switch would be a pretty cool addition to anyone building a “Ray” pack. I would prolly walk around the party telling everyone to “switch me on”. lol.
There appears to be two ways to turn on the pack. The invisible switch, and one of the switches on the partcle thrower.
Right after Ray has Egon turn his pack on, Egon turns his own on with a shake of the thrower when they reach their destination. I’m sure they also do this at the end of the film as well.
Anyone know which switch does that? I’d like to wire it up to my pack lights. Also, what switch do they use to throw the particles? Is that the intensity button? And does anyone know if the pack lights speed up when they do this?
After browsing here and reading everything, and learning all the “parts” of the proton pack I noticed something rather strange in the Hotel scene in GB1.
Why when Ray tells Egon to switch him on in the elevator Egon pushes some "magical " switch on the Power Cell instead of on the thrower.. Was Egon using the Crank Generator or something else instead to switch the pack on?

The accepted explanation was he was improvising a where the “on” switch was on the Pack.
i think theres some confusion of where the actual on switch is location in RGB it is shown as once being on top of the packs - in knock knock
then in then center (relating to the movie) in when hollween was forever
so where is the actual on switch for the pack since the gun seems to also have its own on switch to ??
i just watched the scene and it looks like the switch is on the left side of the pack (you can see egon’s finger tips in the red circle)
and i guess the switch on the thrower is like a safety catch on a gun
There is no switch on the pack. It was improv, and an action to que a sound.
If only they knew people would build these things 20 years later…you cant just make up imaginary switches like that. Who does Harold Ramis think he is.
