This is my new big work in progress, a Real Ghostbusters Proton Pack at the Mattycollector action figure scale. Ever since I did my RGB PKE Meter, I’ve had a bunch of folks ask me if I’m going to do a pack. This is what I have so far. This is at a very early stage, so any comments and crits are welcome. Thanks for looking.
As always, I made this in Google Sketchup.
Great work! I knew you had something cooking, lol. You inspired me, Dave. I started on mine today. I have the Motherboard completed and converted it for uploading to Shapeways. It is currently being evaluated. So far I only have the 2D version of the pack itself, but I will begin the 3D conversion/build tomorrow. I also hope to have time to begin the thrower this weekend. You wouldn’t be willing to share your Sketchup file with me to save me some work now would 'ya.
Thanks mate! I’m not really comfortable sharing my files, but I’d be happy to share any advice you need.
What really shook the pack design process loose for me was not working from the motherboard up, but by building the individual parts separately and then scaling and then scaling them and moving them around into place around each other. Everyone has their own process though.
Off the bat, I’d say that a good technique is to build your models way bigger than you’re going to print them. Shetchup acts strangely at scales of less than around a foot. I build everything at around 100x what I’m going to print and then shrink it as my last step. Also, you’re going to run into a really frustrating thing where elements disappear when you zoom in on them. Go into VIEW and hit ZOOM EXTENTS. That will fix it. You might have to keep hitting it, but it will work.
great work. it looks a little tall, but I might be wrong.
Hey Servo!
Nice bit of sketchin’ ya got goin’ there. :nicejobyoudid: Are you going for the straps and Trap, too?
Quit pickin’ JoeGB, you’re just use to looking at the squat Kenner Packs.
He’s got these sized for the Matty Figures so yeah, they should be taller.
Well, Cap, I think Joe maybe right about the hight thing. Though it’s only a difference of maybe an eighth of an inch, or in scale terms about two inches taller than it needs to be on the figure. I still think it looks great!
Steve- No problem, man. I totally understand, though you can expect plenty of qurstions from me in the future. Have you started on the thrower, yet? Keeping a close eye on this thread.

Dave-
I started on my Proton Pack this weekened. Can you point me in the direction as to how I can make some on my edges rounded like on yours? Also, how did you make it all one color like that, and can you please tell me how you put together the four sideded perspective in your first post? Thanks again for all of your help!
