For the fans of the RGB, what would be the worst episode in your opinion? Mine is “Who you call’n two-demensional”. It’s the one where the Ghostbusters get sucked into a cartoon-world and have to save Walt Flieshman (obviously a combination of Disney and Max).
It seemed like the creators used the first idea that everyone had without developing any of them…especially the Doopy Dog character. You would think that with a name like “Doopy”, it would be, well, a dope. Instead, he is pretty smart with a British accent, eyepatch, toothpick in mouth, wearing an old-timey red underwear (you know, long sleeves and pant legs with a trap-door for #2) with a lighning bolt for the logo and a cape.
Like I said, seems like the use of everyone’s first idea. I even remember hating this episode as a kid 20 years ago. The whole premise was lame.
I think the stupidest episode, I don’t remember the name, but it was in the last or maybe second to last season, was when the Ghostbusters were racing against each other in four different vehicles. The vehicles were lame, other than Winston driving ECTO 1. And the icing on the cake was the fifth vehicle being an ice cream truck driven by Slimer… I mean come on, that was some of the dumbest s**t I’ve seen and it really showed how the quality of the episodes declined in the later seasons.
Afterlife in the Fast Lane does rank amongst the poorer ones… and I definately wouldn’t say Who Are You Calling Two-Dimensional? the worst.
The worst episode I’ve seen? Hrmm, I think it’s a tie between Jailbusters and Future Tense both episodes had amusing ideas… but animation quality, dialogue and overall production levels seemed pretty low… I think FT might be the worst of those two.
Can you refresh my memory a little on the plot of those episodes? They sound familiar, but I don’t remember the story.
If we want to talk about poor animation… Do you remember at the end of the series (can’t remember if it was the last season or second to last. My episodes are in chronological order, but the discs are not broken down into seasons) how cheesy the ECTO-1 started looking? When it got the black bumper and less detail… Speaking of ECTO-1 and lame story points, I always thought it a little silly when ever they got into trouble while driving, Winston had always just added some new gadget to ECTO-1 to save them. Some things were cool. But the one that made me say, “Ya, right!” Was when they were airborne over the water and Winston pulls a lever and the bottom of ECTO turns into a raft and they safely float to their destination. :roll: Would you like some crackers with that cheese? :lol: If I remember right, that was the episode with the bad Slimer.
I always really hated the episode where they have to go into some fairy tale world and save a dragon and Janine from some evil tyrant guy who’s taken over the fairy tale world. That one was really lame.
See you guys are mentioning all the worst episodes but when you are describing them it makes me giggle. In my opinion the those lame stories and how Winston had a New gadget on the Ecto 1 when they needed it cracks me up. Its just funny to me. Come on its Genius! As far as the animation goes well I agree. If anything annoyed me about the cartoon its how they sometimes let the animation get crappy.
Future Tense: The guys finish off a ghost at a TV shop, however instead of cash they take home a big screen television at Ray’s behest. It soon becomes apparent that this machine can predict the future… namely, theirs.
Jailbusters: The Ghostbusters are captured, tried and imprisoned for their ‘crimes against ghosts’. With them behind bars, it’s up to Slimer, Janine and Louis to free them before it’s too late.
Etc, etc.
I don’t remember that happening, but I can easily take your word for it. Only last night I saw a RGB animation cel, and Ecto-1 looked terrible… drawing standards really went out the window. I though the jumpers were amusing, and most of the equipment on the roof seemed fine… but Ecto-1 was quickly going the way of the Sonic Screwdriver as the RGB Deus Ex Machina whenever they got stuck in the plot.
Aside from Peter’s huge change of character, and the ‘Ecto raft’ I felt that was quite a good episode. Nobody expected an evil cartoon Slimer (that was The Two Faces Of Slimer, fyi. )
Sounds like Surely You Joust… never saw it, by my friend Fritz likely wrote an apt description of it for the 'Timeline.
Aside for a few minor things though, I felt The Halloween Door and Janine, You’ve Changed were likely the last good episodes the series produced.
Oh that’s right, I do remember that one. Their future “ends” on the roof of the fire house.
The Halloween door is one of my all time favorite episodes. I still remember when that aired for the first time right around Halloween 1989. My friend, Adam, and I kept saying, “So who’s up for a little trick or treating.” :lol: Ahhh, those were the days.
Personally, I had a few episodes I didn’t really like (I only remember the first 4 seasons clearly, because I’ve watched them recently).
Ghost Busted happens to be the first of those, when the guys were having a really slow time with the ghosts and retool the proton packs and traps to capture criminals.
Follow That Hearse was another episode I wasn’t too fond of. Like so many people above have mentioned, either the Ecto-1’s appearance changed for the sucky, or it often became cheesy with newly installed gadgets that are never used again. But this one takes the cake in damaging the Ecto’s rep by letting it be possessed by a ghost, increase somewhere around 3 times in size, and giving it a mouth and teeth under the hood. The title, too, is sort of buggy, what with the actual car being an ambulance, if memory serves
That was actually one of the few episodes that actually scared me… although I think there’s better criteria for a ‘worst episode’ then the effects of Ecto-1 being possessed… it got possessed in Killerwatt yet there’s no voiced complaints about that one.
Also, the 59 caddillac was used as BOTH an ambulance and a hearse while they were still in service. The Ecto-1 has been referred to as both on several occasions, so either one is forgivable because essentially its the same thing, just a different color. (also, the car was originally black when Ray bought it, so it was a hearse before becoming the Ecto-1).
As for the possession of Ecto-1, I think that was actually a rather good idea (maybe I’m biased though, I loved the movie Christine, so evil cars are always fun, haha). And Ben is right, Killerwatt did possess it as well, that episode is on the DVD set. This episode was one of the ones I remember most vivedly from watching it as a kid and the part where Ecto-1 is ramming into the alley to try to get Winston was one of my favorite moments.
And yes, I just remembered what you were referring to, in another RGB episode they went to the firehouse LONG before it was theirs and the fire-fighters there had the same car.
Yeah, it was a bit far-fetched in my opinion. I cant remember for the life of me what the episode was called, but in it, the Ghostbusters travel back in time and help the fire-fighters of Hook and Ladder no. 8 repell an invasion of ghosts.
However, the crew of Hook and Ladder 8 didn’t own the car that’d become Ecto-1, I believe the story was set in the 1950s and the car happened to be driven past the place when the Ghostbusters were looking around their TriBeCa neighbourhood from thirty years before.
