i have been noticing on a lot of builds lately, that people are making the rear handle PVC too short, and putting the rear grip right up against the rear bar of the thrower.
if you’ll check reference pics here on the sites reference section, you will see on the Hero throwers that there is about 3/4" gap between the rear instrument bar and the front of the rear grip.
not only is it accurate to do so, but it helps your thrower look more proportionate and overall will help your pack look better by making the rear handle/grip stick up farther away from the pack when the thrower is holstered.
I made this mistake on my last thrower and it bugged the hell out of me enough to make me sell it and build a new one, I’d like to help others catch this mistake before its too late to remedy it.
It should be said that some fiberglass non-hero throwers DO have the grip up against the rear bar, i can only imagin this was done purposely to reduce size/weight and to help the actors to better reach their trigger box with their thumb

Accuracy ■■■■! How dare you tell people how to make their packs. Back in my day, you could paint a vacuum, put straps on it, and wear it on your back to be a Ghostbuster. But thanks to people like you, I get made fun of for my vacuum cleaner pack!
Seriously though, I do agree. I have been seeing a lot of people making their rear handle too short. I’m guilty of this myself on my current pack. Am I going to sell my current neutrona wand? No. But when I build another one, I will correct my mistake. That’s the great thing about this hobby. Every time you build, you learn something new! Then you get to apply that knowledge to your next build.
I wish I could remember if I did mine right on stupid dumb luck or if I actually looked at plans…anywho, mine looks like Venkmans…the rear handle anyway…but what bugs me is it’s really hard to hold the thrower from the grip and still reach the “intensify” button to fire it. The grip should have been further up on the originals, IMO…unless they were firing the guns from that button on the front which is much easier to reach from the front grip.
See now I was thinking the same thing when I built mine but then I came to the realization that from a design standpoint, it would make sense to wrap the fins. They wrap around every other edge of the crank gen. I think as far as the props guys were concerned was its an area no one would really see on screen so why bother with the detail.. To each his own I suppose.
I understand that the handle is that long. Only thing that bothers me is that in just about ever screen grab, the tube is thinner than the clippard valve body…
In the screen cap on this thread it’s not that much thinner. If you compare it on that screen cap it comes out to only a tiny bit smaller. A real valve is 1.31" and the handle is 1.25", and that is essentially the difference seen in the screen caps and in the photos of the hero guns.
