2014 Project... First GB pack Build!

OK, so this year will mark the start of my first GB pack build. I am basing it off of the GB1 pack so no spectra cable for me. (still looking for the GB1 cable too as a matter of fact…)

I have a decent amount of parts accumulated already, still waiting on funds to buy the bigger parts like electronics, shell, and motherboard. So without further aude, here is everything I have sourced so far:

Real Clippard fittings and barbs (i know they say clippard on them but it doesn’t bother me)

Cyclotron and Powercell lenses as well as Ribbon cable clamps from eBay.

All the tubing necessary for a pack and thrower. Also from eBay.

GB1 Ion Arm end cap and bellows from MMM

Clippard R331, R701, and Legris straight replicas from Wiz-GB008

Booster Frame, Crank knob, and Trigger tip from Nick-a-Tron

Real Dale DH-25, RH-25, and RH-50 via GBFans and eBay

Crix’s awesome resin casts for the main aluminum pack parts

Regular Pack Labels

Foil-backed pack labels (the clippard labels I sold)

GBFans rub-on transfers

So thats the gist of it. Haven’t decided on a shell yet. ThrowingChickens’ V3 thrower kit is in the mail so I should get that in a day or two. I will update with photos once I get that.

UPDATE!!!

Received my ThrowingChicken V3.0 thrower yesterday. It got stuck for a few days in transit from San Antonio here to Baltimore because of those crazy snow/ice storms we had last week. SO instead of getting here Monday, it got here Thursday. I was peeved at USPS all week… until I got the thrower

This bad boy is an absolute beauty! The cast is superb, I have zero bubbles on mine. It is smooth, its solid, and I cannot wait to get this guy put together. So here we go:

Full Kit laid out. I opted for the full front end assembly

The inside guts of the thrower

Front tip with replica banjo’s, resin hat light, and collar installed

Right side showing off wavy heatsink

Rear panel showing the hollow control cavity

Left side with molded in knobs, gun track, resin white hat light and on the right is a nice aluminum plate supplied for rear control cover (I assume anyway).

Rear handle with clippard barbs, rear cylinder, and tubing. (I THINK the small red tubing there is for the barrel extension lever)

Front end assembly with supplied resin knobs, hat lights, and banjos

Not pictured is the Clippard R701 replica that is supplied with the kit. Only reason I didn’t picture it was because I have Wiz-GB008’s replicas.

I also received Ejgunth87 new motherboard to shell mounting brackets he just started selling. They are great!!

So I just ordered the acrylic tip from the GBFans store and I have 10’ of ¾ Split loom I bought of eBay (at $5 with free shipping I couldn’t resist even if it was the split type) as well as some SMC 4mm Elbows for a good price. Will update once I get those and get this thrower started!

Don’t worry. The split kind is the accurate kind.

TC’s latest kit looks incredible! The gray looks awesome, and should any natural scuffing occur it will look good shining through that paint. I was very nervous going into my first gun build, but TC’s kit makes it really, REALLY easy to put together. Looks like you are off on a great start!

I’m not a huge fan of hot glue in general… but it does have its purposes…

I built a little frame out of PVC sheet and super glued it to the ribbon cable plug. This gave me a surface to epoxy glue the bar graph in place. You have to mock it up to make sure your LEDs are where you want them before you glue it in place. Its a little bit of a pain the ass but the end result…at least for me…was a lot cleaner.

I think I pulled that method off a thread here somewhere…

SMALL UPDATE:

GBFans acrylic barrel arrived today! AS did my ¾" Split loom from eBay.

So here is another odd ball question… Anyone have a measurement of the length of the threaded base of the hat lights? Not the socket bases, but the threaded portion below the actual hat light.

If I remember right, its only like .75inches. I honestly didnt use the bases on my build.

Do you just use resin copies with the lights sitting underneath? Or with a hole drilled into them?

Nope I used the real things epoxied on to the relavant gun areas so they sat flush on the surface.
