ACTIVSION: Ghostbusters Game not Cancelled.

image

GBFan and writer for OXM Magazine, Dan Amrich, lets us know the official word from Activision Public Relations Manager Maclean Marshall. When asked about the video game’s future Maclean states:

“First and foremost, the game is absolutely not cancelled. The company (Activision) is reviewing its options regarding those titles that it will not be publishing.”

In otherwords, Activision will not be handling Ghostbusters: The Video Game. They will most likely be shopping the game around to have it released by a different publisher. This does mean most likely that the game will be delayed. Hopefully a publishing company will be able to pick up the game quickly and have it be released near it’s target release date of October 21st 2008. A Terminal Reality employee lets us know how the company is reacting to the support GBFans has been giving in this matter:

“The support you all show us is awesome, we do notice it, and you all are driving us to try to make something awesome for everyone.”

If you still haven’t signed the petition, feel free to do so. We will be sending it to Terminal Reality to let them know how much support there is out there from everyone at Ghostbusters Fans:

I still don’t get WHY? :sigh: Goodness I can’t stand waiting much longer hopefully a publisher steps up quickly and we get the game on time. I can’t believe this; can’t anything ever just work out the way it is supposed to? Now I want the game released not so much that I want to play it (though I really really want to play it) but I just want to have it to ensure no more of this stuff happens.

I can’t understand why Activision wouldn’t want to publish this, with all of the positive press and and publicity it’s getting. They pumped out 100 GB games 20-some years ago. No love for the franchise any more?

I can’t take this roller-coaster ride any longer. Stop playing with my emotions Activision!

it’s not easy to be a ghost head…

so Activision is handing off the Ghostbusters game to another publisher - with such a huge positive reaction for this game, I just have to wonder…

does Activision not like money or something?

and they’re keeping such franchise turds as Spyro the dragon, crash bandicoot and the tards from ice age?

I’m still going to boycott Activision, because of them the GB game will likely be delayed, and from the sounds of things, their upcoming game catalog is going to suck.

at least the GB isnt getting canceled. that really got my blood boiling this morning when I read “Ghostbusters Game at Risk of Being Cancelled” in my inbox this morning…

I really don’t understand why in hell Activision wouldn’t want to publish this. Don’t they realize the money they’d make?

I am NOT okay with this. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Especially since things are now unsure and indefinite. I want to know when the game will be available! But, at least it has been confirmed that the game won’t be canceled. I can live with that for now, but they damn well better get this resolved FAST! I’m sick of being jerked around. I mean, why not just announce that they are going to finally do Ghostbusters 3 IN THEATERS, hype it for about a year, show previews and clips of the movie, then just decide to cancel it? I’m sick of being jerked around with my love of Ghostbusters.

I hope this gets resolved quickly and we get our game as closely as possible to the original target date. At least we know it isn’t canceled. I hope that this doesn’t mean they may have to go back to square one. I hope we can still get exactly the game they were going to make, just maybe now with a different label in the corner of the game.

my stomach dropped this moring when i read that email and i still dont feel right even with recent update. i wont be happy until i see a commercial on tv for the game.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Well, as long as it’s delayed a few weeks, I don’t care. Even if they pushed it to Xmas, I would be somewhat ok with it. But, I think this was handled poorly. Fans came to SDCC to see “the boys” and got the shaft. You remember the s**t storm when someone did the April Fools joke here? A chill went up my spine today after the announcement. Well, at least they are not killing it. Why would they do a press release saying it was killed? Maybe we did have some impact, I don’t know. At least if it’s a few weeks off, it shouldn’t impact the mass merchandising that will go with the game (please, please, please, please, please). Ok, I’m relieved, but still a little sore. Donkey is right–rollercoaster city!

Is activision run by 10 year old kids, why would you keep the three game franchises that EVERYONE HATES that has the same story spit out over and over and over again when they have a chance to release an original game with an original story that has the largest fanbase spanning 20 years and still growing with the potential of earning millions in the first week of release, c’mon Activision you’ve got the brains of a rock and i myself have been waiting for this for so long that they decide to do crap like this, i’m boycotting all activision products because by not publishing Ghostbusters: the game, they decided they didn’t want my money, i’m going to gather up all my Activision games and anything else Activision related and either throw them away or burn them.

Apparently the game isn’t preselling well either…

I can’t tell if that was sarcasm of if you read that somewhere.

If it’s true that has me a little worried..

Research, actually.

While I don’t think (and now know) that Ghostbusters: The Video Game is cancalled, I could for see a push back. Activision may not be publishing the game due to low presale rates. At least in my area, I did some asking around at local game stops, according to them pre sales for the game are very low.

One of the stores I visited only had three pre orders for the game. It could be because the game is still so far out, and in all honesty since the demo packages were relaesed not much else outisde of conventions has been done to get the game out there.

Activision might be shoping for other publishers because pre game sales are so low.

Don’t know for sure.

:walterpeck: They better release this game ive been waiting like 15 years for a new game or movie i remember hearing about Ghostbusters 3 about 12 years ago and then i hear about this game last year and im so excited and then i hear that it might be delayed it makes me so upset

Don’t worry. Delays on Video Games are quite common, we’ll get our game, sooner or later.

I hope your right

Just ask Nintendo about game delays.. they’re notorious for theirs (all of them worth it in the end, though).

I know I’m just some guy, but I can’t express enough how disappointed I am with Activision regarding this decision. So, I guess they think we just want some more Quake Wars or some more mindless shooters.

Activision used to mean something. They were they guys who programmed better games for the Atari 2600 than the Atari programmers themselves! Remember Pitfall, River Raid, Barnstorming, Grand Prix, H.E.R.O., etc? By showing us you’re a bunch of empty suits who only care about the bottom line, I could care less about what you publish from now on, Activision. I can’t wait to see some of the shite you thought was worth keeping while you lost such a beloved and great property with such a loyal fan base. What sense does it make to pull out this late in the game, especially after you’ve put out the resources into the voice talent; which alone was a huge investment! What are you thinking? No one thought Grand Theft Auto 3 would sell either, and gee, it kinda looks like that franchise has done okay, hmm?

I’m sorry, I know it’s just a game, but I already pre-ordered the 360 version, and I just bought a Wii to play that version!

If Activision can’t see how large a fan base they’re alienating, then this is truly a company that has lost all touch with anything but fiscal matters. Please, someone pick this game up; even EA, I don’t care. It might not break sales records, but you can be sure there is a loyal contigent of people who will buy this game.

Around here in Oklahoma and Texas they’ve got a crazy amount of pre-orders, there’s alot of people who’ve been waiting for this game to come out for so long and from videos of the game, it is well worth it
