This may seem like an odd question, but it’s not for me. I was talking to a lady friend about being a GB with me for Halloween and she’s down, but the first thing that comes to mind is what are we gonna do about her pack? At first I considered she just get the sexy Ghostbuster costume since it comes with a little Proton Pack, but from what I’ve seen it’s really tiny. Then I got the idea, why not just use my old Kenner pack? I think if painted nicely it could end up looking pretty good for her, and she’s really small anyway, about 5’1". What do you guys think?
I think a lot of folks here are in the mindset of creating a fully movie accurate pack. So this may be one of those things that you’d have to just decide on your own. Don’t the Kenner packs go for a pretty good amount on ebay though because they are such a rare toy? Might want to look into that before considering it for the costume.
I still have mine from my youth.
I guess that’s what I meant.
You might check and see if you’d get a pretty good amount of cash by selling it before you try painting it.
screw that garbage. if its the one from when you were a kid, save it. if the stickers are messed up do what you can to get repro stickers and salvage it. then, go on ebay and find another one to paint up. this way, you’ll have a second one for playing ghostbusters with your ladyfriend.
trust me, you will kick yourself eventually for painting up the one you had when you were a kid. not a good idea man. getting another would be one you wouldnt miss.
x2.
x3. dont paint it. get a new one from ebay
Okay you guys are missing the point though. Whether I use that one or get another one, I’m just looking for opinions on how you guys think it would look for a girl’s costume if it were painted all nice?

I think it’d get the job done. Better, perhaps, than the upside-down proton pack backpack that comes with the sexy girls costume, worse than a budget pack. Paint it up, maybe give it a little bit of work, and bam: proton pack.
She’d be a Ghostbuster… Mission accomplished!
x4 on the buy a new pack, though. Don’t seem to be THAT expensive on eBay.
i painted my old kenner trap black to use on my uniform, and it worked out fine. i used regular primer first, then normal spray paint. you can buy spray paint that is for plastic especially, but if you primer first, i don’t see a problem.
i have to agree with the rest of the guys, don’t paint your only pack though.
Well, however you decide on getting a new one or using your old one, I say go for it. You could even use some resin parts from the movie packs and dress it up a bit to make it look more like the real deal. I was just thinkin of doing something similar for my girl while we work on getting the parts for a more accurate pack later.

if you have plans of giving her a pke reading or doing a little cuddling back at the hq, then yes, its a great idea to go with the rgb pack painted black. and it would look really good if you tossed in some cheapo lights that light up from the gun. just use the three red cyclotron holes already there. thats all you need to do really.
BUT, you should very much get another one for her, and i’ll tell you why for 2 very blatant reasons.

going back to “giving her a pke reading”, it would be a good thing to say “we had such a great time going ghostbusting together, i want you to have this so you can remember how much of a blast we had, and you’ll be ready when we do it again.” say it like that. that exact sentence. because she will associate having an absolutely wonderful time busting ghosts with you, and every time she looks at it she’ll think of how absolutely wonderful time she had busting ghosts with you. its a mind thing. it works.

if you’re just buddies, or nothing pans out, she can keep it and you dont have that awkward “hey can i have my stuff” phase everyone goes through when breaking off.
in any event, you really should plan on not getting it back. so get another one. and paint it black. and it will be ok.

Well first off while it’d be nice, there’s no way I’d be able to add lights or anything like that. The most I’d be able to do is paint the thing, and maybe glue some additional bits on there. I have ZERO skill in that department.
And second I don’t really need to make this girl think about me or anything like that cause she’s already crazy about me. I just don’t want a gf so it’s more of a friends with benefits type deal right now.
I actually repainted mine a few years ago for my first ghostbusters costume since the release of ghostbusters 2, I bought one on ebay (at the time I was also stuck with the store bought ghostbusters costume and didnt want to use the inflatable one) me being well…big boned and 5’7" the pack looked really small on me but if your friend is small it should be fine one her. I ended up reprinting the stickers from some pictures I found online and used spray paint…just a simple layer of chrome, then a layer of flat black, hit it with some steel wool to break up some of the black and bingo. I also had some straps and a pistol belt at the time that i attached to the pack to at least make it fit better and to give it a better look. My fiance’ has my computer at the moment otherwise I’d post the pics I have for you to see, but it didnt come out too bad and i still got a lot of compliments on it. So take advantage of the fact that she wants to do this, as I had to go alone to any kind of party or contest and let’s face it something like this you need at least 1 other person.

alright, then be sure you definetly buy a second one, you’ll thank me later.

If you’re ever able to get the pics I’d love to see em.
Got my laptop back so here ya go

Nice job, what’d you use for the straps and how did you attach them to the pack?
the straps and belt I just got at an army surplus store, the straps are just one piece and have a hook on the end to attach to the pistol belt. So I just hooked that to the bottom of the pack and as tacky as it sounds the pack still has the original straps so i kind of just wrapped it around and tied it to the top neck loop (for a lack of better term) hope that helps.
how the heck did you get the ghost trap to stay on there like that too?
