I loved the first one, so I can’t wait for the sequel come May. 
It’s also going to be great to see live-action War Machine.

Bad choice of villian though.. they shoulda went Mandarin and Fing Fang Foom all the way.
I’ve been a huge Iron Man fan since the mid 90’s, and I never like the Mandarin. I get the whole “science vs magic” thing, but I just always thought he was a weak villain. I always preferred seeing IM go up against other armored foes like Crimson Dynamo, Titanium Man, and Dr Doom. Spymaster and the Ghost were cool too though.

very sweet, though I’m a little concerned about War Machine - even though in the first movie what Rhodey said when he saw Tony in the armor for the first time " Next time, baby! " while looking at the Mark II - silver armor - I just hope Don Cheadle does’nt screw it up too bad

If you watch the first movie carefully and listen to alot of Jon Favreau’s interviews about making the Iron Man films, they’re clearly building the Mandarin up to be the major villain of the 3rd film in what will be the initial trilogy. The terrorist who orchestrates the capture of Tony Stark is in chrge of a portion of a larger terrorist organization known as “The 10 Rings”. You also clearly see him wearing a large silver ring in many scenes.
It seems as though they are taking a clever approach to introducing the villain steadily throughout the film series. It makes sense in many ways. With a character like Batman, all the enemies in his rogues gallery is so well known that you can get away with using the Joker in the second film and still get people excited about using Riddler/Catwoman/Clayface/Penguin/whoever in the proceeding films.
Iron Man’s group of enemies is virtually unknown to the general public, so if they were to use a villain who is considered the hero’s greatest enemy in the first or second film, it would cause the following movies and their respective threats to feel somewhat lackluster in comparison. By saving Iron Man’s arch enemy as his biggest threat in the 3rd film, it steadily builds the threat level not only within the context of one film, but over the course of the films, allowing the film makers to build excitement and anticipation. Think, how would you feel if you saw Iron Man 2 featuring a superhero fight to end all superhero fights between Iron Man and Mandarin, and you expect the films to get better as they go along, but then you see the sequel is hinging it’s threat on Mickey Rourke in prison pants. Probably a good movie, but still somewhat an anti climatic finish to the trilogy.
The other great reason is that since we won’t get Iron Man 3 featuring Mandarin until after the full Avengers film, it gives the character a chance to play outside his little sandbox of technology in a neutral environment. In Avengers, he’ll meet a Norse god that controls lightning with a hammer and if rumors are correct, he’ll team up with the rest of the Avengers to help take down his evil half brother, the god of mischief, and a mind controlled green monster.
After handling that, it won’t seem so drastic and out of place to be fighting a guy with magical rings.
As far as Fing Fang Foom, if he does show up it’ll probably be with Mandarin, and I’m anticipating some interaction or at least mention of dragons when he meets Thor, so again, it will definitely be a sight to see, but no as unexpected or out of place.
Also, and I’ll put this in spoilers in case no one’s heard, but Whiplash (as we’ve seen him) isn’t the only villain in the film:
Justin Hammer, who actually has a hand in developing the War Machine armor, gets his hands on Tony’s tech and designs and develops a series of “Iron Drones”, supposedly for the government, which he in turn sicks on Tony, and they provide a significant threat. Not to mention it’s all but confirmed that Whiplash gets upgraded to a full suit of armor toward the end, hence the original statements that Rourke’s character is a combination of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo, but retains the name Whiplash (probably so it doesn’t cause any un neccesary controversy and because his primary visual element is his whips).
The trailer has pretty much been confirmed to be hitting with Sherlock Holmes when it comes out, but the comic con trailer is still on youtube for those who haven’t seen it. It’s bootlegged, but still awesome no less. I believe the scene in the dark at the end, before the title shot, is the scene I mentioned earlier, with Iron Man fighting Justin Hammer’s “Iron Drones”.:

I’ve read iron man on and off for years.. probably since the 60’s.. but I don’t recall any major villian at all called whiplash.
I just wish they’d done someone more mainstream, and recognised.. there’s no telling if a 3rd movie will ever even get greenlit. Holding your cards for an unknown future doesn’t makes much sense. (Think Spiderman 3)
Thats why we are now going to see reboots of not only the Hulk, but also fantastic four as well.. they realised there IS a viewing public for these, but they can’t dick around with them.
Just do em right the first time,. I say!
But they have rebooted the hulk! And it was spectacular. I personally think it has more re-watchability than Iron Man (and I love Iron Man)!
And yes, Whiplash has a long history in the Iron Man comics. It’s a character that has also gone by the name “Blacklash”:

And at this point Gareee, I’m sure Iron Man has a permanent green light as long as Favreau and RDJ are attached, They won’t let them not have a 3rd film now, especially with how all these films not only have an immense degree of quality control and are all intertwined as one universe under the Marvel studios banner. Had first Iron Man not done well, they would have simply waited to bring him back out in Avengers. Similar to the most recent Hulk film, which despite great reviews, only did so-so because of the stigma the previous Hulk film put on the character in the public’s eyes. He may not get another solo film based on the BO intake of his solo film, but because the film’s quality was just as great as Iron Man, you can bet the film’s cast, crew, and story elements will be intertwined with the growing Avengers universe that they are building.
With Marvel studios, there is such a level of quality control, with the projects having to pass the approval of the film makers, comic writers, and the heads of both the studio and Marvel comics themselves, that if the film doesn’t succeed, it is almost undoubtedly because there is something fundamentally wrong with the character across the span of films, cartoons, comics, and everywhere they show up.
Looking at the cast, crew, and story they have for Thor, it’s nearly another sure fire hit in the vein of Iron Man.
Unfortunately, with films like the Fantastic 4 and Spider-Man series, the same quality control doesn’t exist. These characters had their rights sold to various other studios before the creation of the self run Marvel studios. Sony has Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, Fox has all the mutant characters, X-Men or otherwise, Daredevil, and Fantastic 4. As such, Marvel can supply the studios with any reference material they may ask for, be it comics, cartoons, whatever, but Marvel actually has no control over how the movies are crafted, storywise, lookwise, or in any way. And as long as the studios continue to put out films in a timely manner or continue to pay the required amount to retain those rights, the rights remain their’s. As such, alot of different people have a say in what happens in those films. It’s one of the reasons why Spider-Man 3 came out the way it did. It’s also the reason why nearly everyone is praying that Fox isn’t able to get the reboots of F4 and Daredevil off the ground, as they are the most notorious offenders of disregarding things that would make for a good film. Now,every once in a while you get lucky with a non-Marvel studios made film and get a true fan like Bryan Singer that gives you X-Men 1 and 2. His style and thoughts fit those films perfectly. But then the studio shows their ugly head and you get X-Men 3 and Wolverine, movies that could have been great had the studio not fumbled the ball so terribly with how they rushed the films and the people they put behind the camera. In the case of the F4, about the only good things in those were the costumes, and Ben and Johnny. Personally I didn’t mind cloud galactus because I think giant purple man galactus looks ridiculous, but there probably was a better compromise somewhere that could have appeased fans.
It was also a problem with the first Hulk film, produced by Universal studios.
Now, I think the Daredevil director’s cut was a fine film, but that wasn’t the version the audiences saw, and even still there was room for improvement. I’d love to see it revisited, along with the F4, but I’d rather wait for the rights to relapse and see future films made under Marvel Studios with the rest of the Avengers. Fox unfortunately has about 80 other X-men sequels and spin offs planned, so I don’t see them losing those rights anytime soon, but there’s still hope for the Daredevil and F4 films.
Especially since they’ve apparently hired the guy who wrote the atrocious Batman and Robin (Clooney film) to reboot F4 :sigh:
So, in essence, your going to pretty much be hit and miss with the Daredevil, Spidey, Ghost Rider, F4, and X-Men films, but I would bet on anything coming from Marvel’s own studio being less than stellar.
And Backlash I recall.. wonder who’s stupid idea it was to rename him?
I’d like to see Blade revisited, or Nightwatch.
Manthing was terrible, buit if handled properly might be nice.
I loved the Blade films, and I only had minor quibbles about the tv series. I’d love to see the film series continued, hopefully with Snipes, as it seems he is still interested in the character despite his falling out with David Goyer. I wouldn’t let Goyer direct though. While I enjoy Blade 3, I do see it’s faults and I think it could use a fresh director. And while Goyer wrote all three films, I wouldn’t mind a fresh writer as well, especially if it means we get Snipes back.
The Deacon Frost centered Blade prequel/reboot that there has been talk of doesn’t really appeal to me. Maybe as a comic mini-series, but not on film. I’d also ditch the night stalkers for future Blade films. I loved the characters, but they got to much screen time and I’d only have them referred to off screen as associates of Blades that are operating elsewhere at the time.
I’d love to see the Luke Cage film finally get off the ground.
I’d also love to see more F4 and Daredevil films, but again, only in the hands of Marvel Studios. I find it very unlikely that Fox can get some Bryan Singer like lightning to strike on those properties. But with Brian Michael Bendis, one of the greatest DD scribes of all time, as a creative consultant for Marvel studios, they could whip out a FANTASTIC DD film.
Black Panther would be cool, starring Djimon Honsou (sp).
The Ant-Man film they had in development could have been cool depending on how they did it. I think it’s smart though that they are introducing Hank Pym in the Avengers first. I’d love to see him as Giant Man, developing the Ant Man stuff in his spare time, then after Avengers do an Ant Man movie that is almost a superpowered spy/ operative film, pitting SHIELD against some evil organization or mastermind (Hydra? AIM?) and Ant Man is the guy they send in to be sneaky and save the day.
I heard they were trying to do a superhero comedy with Ant Man originally, so maybe it’s best that one didn’t happen, and they can re think it post-Avengers.
But Iron Man, yeah…he’s cool…
Some characters really aren’t strong enough to carry a feature film franchise.. major heavy hitters like IronMan, Spidey and Hulk can, but I don’t think Antman would have done well.
In an ensemble cast though, he could fit in quite nicely.
A Doc Strange film could be cool, but for Blade I’d prefer a retro storyline, back when he was struggling.. and a flashback with his yellow goggles and green coat would be nice.

Still not too thrilled about the whip guy villian. You really need a big bad to pull off a superhero flick, and he seems more like a second stringer.
The Iron Monger is a bit of a act to follow up… I think that Whiplash and the other appearing villian will be enough.
As for the trailer: Badass! Especially that bit at the end, really made me smile.
I read somewhere that Olivia Munn was cast as someone called Iron Maiden. Any truth to that? I am assuming that she would be the other villian since I think Justin Hammer is just a businessman.

Because this isn’t about the villains. This is all about building up to the 3rd Iron Man, and also the Avengers movie. So that’s why the villains will be mediocre.
And honestly nobody’s really familiar with Iron Man villains. Batman and Superman and Spiderman, yes. We all know theirs. Joker, Doomsday, Lex Luthor, Riddler, Venom, Octomom, these villains I don’t have to tell you who they correlate with because by now they’re kind of common knowledge even for non-comic people. But Iron Man… can anybody name an Iron Man villain? Not likely. Hell can they even name his arch enemy? I doubt you could find anybody who would know that even. Mandarin.
I liked the first Iron Man, and was looking forward to part 2 until i saw that Scartlett Johanssen would be gracing it with her “acting”…and her beau, who im also not fond of, is the Green Lantern?!
If they do a sequel with craptastic villians, and it flops there might not even BE a third movie. Thats the same mistake they did with Fantastic Four.. the waffled on Galactus, planning on a big reveal thing in the third movie, which ended up not being produced.
