my pack construction *NEW SHOTS PAGE 6!!*

wow thats high praise indeed! thankyou very much and i wish you all the best with your current pack build!

well as i built the shell myself that kept the total cost down a bit. i think the total price come out at around £350/£400. thats including all the paint and glue too. as for time, phew, alot haha. been working on it since around mid july so just under 3 months.

thanks again everyone and ill try and get some more shots up soon.

That looks great. I dig the weathering look on your handle grips.

I still prefer mine… but yours looks awesome.

I’d love to get an occasion to meet you and compare packs side-to-side. Maybe if they end up doing some type of ectocon some day.

Glad I was of any help, you returned the favor very well, it was very interesting and motivating to follow your progress as mine went on, to get ideas and references.

Again, congratulations on the completion, it looks just fantastic.

Beautiful pack. Wear it with pride. I agree, I like the weathering job on the handles alot.

I gotta tell ya nick, this thing turned out great. Very nice job on it and the weaering is great as well. One thing I would fix, and it has bothered me since you put it on, is the ribbon cable. I dont want to sound like a dick here, but you need to wrap that thing up a little tighter. There is too much flat cable showing out of the clamp and it looks funny. Here are some pics to help explain what I am talking about. To do this, I would cut off the zip ties first, then remove whatever fastener type you have holding the twisted up end that enteres the pack. Leave the metal cable clamp in place and dont take the cable out of it. Then twist the cable a little bit closer toward the clamp than you are now. Use your eye and kind of estimate the ammount of twists in the cable before it reaches the shell hole. I think once you have this down that thing will be excellent. I am just trying to make it look more used and real by saying this, not trying to sound like a jerk. Great work.

Pic of Venkmans extremely tightly twisted cable and reversed on his pack as well.

I think this is from the OMNI cover, but I am not sure…This is how I want mine to look when finished.

thankyou solidgoldcaddy for pointing that out to me. you know each time i look at my pack my attention is drawn to the ribbon cable and i start to wonder if it is tight enough or if its just me being too fussy. now i know i do need to tighten it up a bit  i havent glued it into the pack hole so adjusting wont be a problem. plus i have like 1000 zip ties lying around. You dont sound like a jerk at all, you sound like someone given me great advice.

After talking with known accuratists on here for while, I think I have developed an eye for the GB props. I am very meticulous about other things as well, and this has become another. I still dont know the measurements and things like that, but eyeballing things I can pretty much do. I just want your prop to look as good as it can for you, as I am sure you are as well. Good luck with your builds.

do the GB2 styled cables twist the same way? I think its a GB1 thing… here’s one grab of GB2

image

even that one seems pretty loose for a GB1

I’ve had a hard time trying to twist cables, really. but I think mine is OK for a GB2 style.

I love the finished pack!

My problem is with the last few people pointing out the tightness of your ribbon, I just realized how loose MY ribbon on my pack is! Now I have to loosen screws and everything to make it better :sigh:

But once again, your pack looks amazing! Nice job.

thankyou mburkit!

following SolidGoldCaddy’s great advice i gave my ribbon cable a few extra twists, and i think it looks much better now. so many thanks for that advice

here is a photo of how it looks now (note the real straights i installed today)…

Look great! I love all the weathering details!

just thought i would share these photos with you. my girlfriend came over and asked if she could wear my pack and once she had it on she just wanted to run around with it! she was so excited to just be wearing one! i followed her with with the camera and got these shots

Bustin’ makes me feel good!

Awesome shots by the way!

you…lucky…dudes! my girlfriend whenever she saw me suit up on Halloween just giggled and called me a dork. sigh my ex did find me hot and dreamed naughty dreams of me in my uniform and pack back when we dated. that was nice.

Thanks Lawrence! yeah the GB1 cables are great! really adds to the gb1 look of a pack in real life.

and ill come bust with you as soon as i have all my gear together! woop!

Nick you think you could post how you did your washer method for your shock mount. That looks amazing and has convinced me that I am just going to use the washer method. I have seen the washer method in the plans on the site, but am curious as to how you did yours.
