Has anyone designed, or successfully built, any mechanism that would allow the proton gun to fire something “real”?
I’ve considered trying to rig something up that would fire silly string along with a bright strobe effect to simulate the stream. Or colored string/yarn coiled up inside, fired out with compressed air and bright strobe effect. I recently saw the toy store Spiderman web slinging apparatus… and that kind of got me thinking again. I remember wondering as a kid why the RGB Packs didn’t shoot silly string instead of having that yellow foam bar attached to the end.
Alot of people over the years have used silly string. Heck our founder used it on his packs back in 89. I’ve heard of silly string more often used in slime blowers since they have alot more room for the canister. Someone years ago made a standard pack and wand save for the front grip being larger for the canister.
That is sexy. I’d love to see any plans or videos of this (or any other cool method) being used.
For a slime blower, you know what would be awesome? Compressed air that fired pink (or red and silver) Christmas tree tinsel! It would look fairly realistic… and it would be just about as messy.
Hrm, in combination with strobing lights, compressed air and some sort of sock-flag I’m sure you could get some sort of beam effect. Kind of like a fake torch:
@ThrowingChicken: That gave me an awesome idea! What about scaling down the “wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man” wind sock men you see at car dealerships? It could be detachable, and you could do an orange one AND a blue one wrapped around each other, held together every foot or two by fine thread… inflated with compressed air, open on the far end, and illuminated with strobes or bright LEDs. I might try this out, if I’m going to participate in any costume contests. Something like that would roll up small enough to fit in a flight suit pocket, I bet.
