Spengler 28 Belt Gizmo - UPDATE

After completing my pack I decided to work on my costume. I already have several items in stock and on order.

Its impossible to find a Sanyo ICC808D or a Minolta Minolcom Calculator so I decided to scratch built it.

First, I printed out the motherboard and redesigned the labels for electronic components. Then I cut out the motherboard and I stick to a plexiglass, plexiglass is thicker than a real motherboard, but it is rigid, it can easily be drilled and he still keeps his strength. I painted the edge and back and I covered everything with a transparent vinyl sticker sheet. It makes the motherboard a bit more gloss than a true but it will always be in good condition.

So here’s the result with the component I have in stock. I am fortunate to have real nixie tubes, it comes from a true Sanyo calculator, but the model was not right, it was a 16-digit calculator, my friends kept 8 and gave me the other 8.


I then drilled the hole for all electronic components, with a Press Drill it’s going really quite fast. Others will be drilled later for the secondary component.


I then modified the actual tubes support, it was originally made for 16 tubes, so I shortened it and use it again.


Then I made ​​the legs of the microchip with gold paper clip, its very long to do but the result will be more realistic. The microchip itself will be really easy to do…

Here is my finished belt gizmo. After cutting in plexiglass 4 small plate, primer coat, paint, labels, the microchip was ready to install, same process except for the blacks that I’ve made ??of wood, also the lower right.




I also cut the connectors in small circles of plastic gold. This is more realistic.


Then everything else was the installation of parts, I managed to find parts very nearly close to the real ones, I also created a small cable with the connector.

So here’s the result, the right picture is the reference photo I used out.


Same here the lower pix was a reference, I know that my tubes are too inclined, I noticed that once the support glued and installed, too bad, no biggie i think

And I also found a perfect small circuit board . I have connected the phone cable, and voila a Gizmo Belt which cost almost nothing!



I just need the Superb tyger Cheex holster and he’s ready to hang on my belt!

Holy shit. I you hadn’t posted pics of your build, nobody would’ve believed that you build it from scratch. Looks EXACTLY like the real thing. I’m in awe.

It’s almost as shame to hide it behind a holster! Best. Belt gizmo. Ever. :crunch:

Well, it looks a lot like the board he decided to copy, which isn’t the right board. Nice work though I am curious as to why you chose to copy that one and not the actual 808D board?

hmmm in fact that board was the clearest picture i got, i didnt really notice that was difference on all the board…

Here’s my archive of the correct board: Private Group Photo & Video Sharing The first 2 pics are of the LCD display version with the display removed which gives good reference for the parts under it. Those parts seem to be the same on both versions.

These reference pictures are superb, have known before I would have used them to build mine. But the Jairus printed circuit is for the one I built. The space for electronic components do not match your photos on the board.

It is a bit too late for me to take off all components LOL but it will be good information for others who want to start one.

My Belt Gizmo amply satisfies me anyway:)

I do not know if I would do another one :P. It’s not very complicated but it is very long. Just bend the paper clips and install them took hours! A belt gizmo made by someone else would not be very profitable in my opinion. For a mostly useless props I put several hours of work. In addition, good Nixie tubes seem hard to find.

Perhaps with a little time to lose I could try a second, but the sale would be unthinkable, or at least very expensive.
