The Junior Ghostbusters

I don’t know if we’ve talked about this before, but what was the deal with the Junior Ghostbusters? When did they get the title, because they just came out of nowhere in the cartoon. Even when they showed up in the Slimer cartoon there wasn’t any backstory to them. Did I miss something? I thought they sucked, by the way.

you are correct and wouldn’t be alone in your opinion. I believe when the series was successful they took a look at the show to see what changes could be made to make it even “better”!

I think their reasoning was that kids liked to see kids on TV thus the Junior Ghostbusters were born. To give us kids someone we could relate to… :sigh:

Yup, just a group of characters to garner viewership of the age 6-12 group (as if that group weren’t watching already). Pay them no heed…

Before them, there was another “junior Ghostbuster” but I don’t remember his name or what episode he was in. I didn’t mind that kid, though. He made his own little Proton Pack, costume, and all topped with the “honorary badge” Peter gave him. I thought the episode was cute and showed Peter’s nice side (later back to his selfish side, then nice again ^^; ).

That would be the episode “Masquerade”, guest-starring Soleil Moon-Fry(TV’s Punky Brewster) as Kenny Fenderman

Junior Ghostbusters. What cracked out dickwad thought that was a good idea? They were just in the way of ■■■■, not like they really did anything useful. What a bunch of ■■■■.

So was that the other lucky coin Janine had from the 1964 Flushing Meadows World’s Fair?

makes you wonder how she felt as a kid knowing her voice was used for a boy.

not to mention, you all should look her up now. punky’s all growed up. and wrote a chapter in the book of hot.

Nope, a pin badge.

Kenny was the way the Junior Ghostbusters should’ve been done, if they had to be. Neither he nor the rest of the cast pandered in that episode… and by right he should’ve been one of the ‘next generation’ of Ghostbusters.

I think that he would have made a good character or at least cameo in Extreme Ghostbusters… I mean, age him appropriately and it would work. Though, then again, I’m surprised that no one has brought up the fact that someone strapped a nuclear accelerator on the backs of some kids… Which, being a teen myself, is pretty awesome.

The Junior Ghostbusters are one of the reasons JMS quit. Not the only reason, or the most important one, but they’re on the list nonetheless.

I think I made my own opinion on them quite plain elsewhere :stuck_out_tongue:

(Go 3/4 of the way down, to the green header “Near Ghostbusters Central”…)

I agree, that if the powers that be on the show wrote the Junior Ghostbusters closer to how Kenny in the episode Masquerade was written it would have not bugged me as much. Looking back thought I don’t really find them that annoying, since they only appeared in two episodes of season two before the Simer cartoons started.

Long live Kenny. The first member of the Ghostbuster Auxiliary.

I’ve decided that I don’t like Kathy Soucie’s voice.

futurama, rugrats, RGB, none of it

thats one of the reasons I think the Jr. Ghostbusters suck

I’m surprised they did not make the Jr ghostbusters the Extreme ghostbusters when EGB came out…

You’d think it’d been the logical course.

It’s an idea that has ‘fanfic’ written all over it.

I barely remember the Junior Ghostbusters. I need to see my DVDs!!! I remember them more from the NOW comics that were avaliable in the UK.

The idea of having children help adults in cartoons or be the focus of cartoons (rather than the adults featured) was done a lot in the 1980s and not just in The Real Ghostbusters. It was the same thing with Defenders of the Earth, The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo or even Popeye and Son. I guess as adults we look at these shows and relate more to the adult characters.

funny enough…I didn’t like them then, either.

if you pay close attention in the show, watching it now, even the 'Busters don’t take them very seriously. Who could blame 'em?

Seriously…the kids get scared sh!tless over everything. Every time one of them starts talking, I just keep going “shut up”.

I’ve come to realize at almost age 28 that they ruined the episode The Boogeyman is Back for me…and the one possible moment of redemption they could’ve had…was blown when they didn’t blast him themselves.

I literally find them so annoying, I hereby make this following offer to the Extreme Ghostbusters:

I will gladly accept you into canonity of RGB with open arms if you’ll do this one simple thing…aim your plasma blasters at the Junior Ghostbusters, and FIRE WHEN READY!!!

I think you said the same thing over at GB.net, LordVigo82, and I think that if the JGBs had busted the Bogeyman themselves, then that would have been 10,000 times lamer than anything we got. For one, it’s unrealistic - we’ve seen that the proton rifles are a handful to operate at first even for fully-grown adults, so what chance would a ten-year-old have? And secondly, the Bogeyman was EGON’S. That what the Bogeyman episodes were about, Egon facing his fear and dealing with the Bogeyman for good.

:boogieman:

yeah, and I’ve come to realize that well…nothing could honestly redeem the Junior Ghostbusters; they were just that annoying. They really did ruin that episode. They managed to not ruin Halloween II 1/2, which I’m impressed with.

I still stand by wanting the EGB to absolutely fry them.

Heh, I find Donald to be the most bareable of all of them; of course, that’s not exactly a compliment, regardless…

just to throw this out there.

you know in the episode the boogie man is back. one of the junior ghostbusters picks up the pke and says that it was an old one that egon gave him. well i find this messed up, in episodes where are 4 heros come across a high level demon, ghost,or just anything the pke would overload and explode. i find it hard to believe a smart guy like egon would give a child an unstable device like that.

also long live kenny the true junior ghostbuster!!
