Hi guys and gals. So I’ve finally decided to take on a studio creations pack build. My first scratch built pack is now roughly 8 years old and is in rough shape so I figured befor I go ■■■■■ deep in a fiberglass shell build I’d test my skills on something a little cheaper to start with. So far I have cut some parts out of PVC pipe. I was having a hard time finding 1 inch PVC so I used what I had laying around. Unfortunately I ran out of the 1 inch pipe I did have so my injectors are 1 1/4 PVC. I’m not sure yet if I’m gonna be fiberglassing the inside of the shell or just fill it with spray foam. I am planning on ordering a set of pack lights from jack doud and a set of spacers from jay. I’m thinking about ordering a ribbon cable set from mmm. I still gotta try to track down a clippard valve for the pack as I’m having a hard time finding one. I do have one pic to share for now but will have more as the build progresses.
thanks. i have been trying to find some parts at local shops but it is kinda looking like i might be placing an order into the gbfans shop within the next few months. i would love to try to make this pack as movie accurate as possible. to be honest there is more work then i expected but i am so looking forward to this project. i have wanted a proton pack ever since i saw the movie when it first came to theaters. sleeping at night has been hard because all i can think about is what i can get done and need to do to get this pack moving. does anyone have any suggestioons on motherboard plans for this shell? i only ask because i have read on a few other sc pack builds that the shell is a tad bit smaller then the fiberglass shells. oh and also is there a specific bumper out there that people have found that fits this shell?
Welcome to the SC club. I’m currently working on one as well, and as you said, the SC shell is smaller than the FG shells, so a lot of the standard parts don’t seem to fit. I asked the same exact question regarding a bumper a few months ago.
I ordered a bumper (and several other parts) from KCGhostbuster here on the boards. The parts are of very high quality, and I highly recommend them. His bumper looks good on my shell, but it is a bit too wide due to the shell sizing, so I will have to install some spacers and even it out a bit. I think most bumpers offered by board members would have the same issue, unless the seller sized them specifically for the 3rd gen SC shell (which we have).
I haven’t done anything with my pack since we had a horrible winter, I had a hernia surgery, and since then I’ve been busy working on my house. I haven’t been posting much either. I need to get crackin’!
Thanks for the info. I will check them out to see what all they have to offer. Ya we have had a horrible winter also. I hope your surgery went well. I’m no stranger to surgery myself. Had over 9 eye surgeries and one knee surgery so far. Not fun at all but I do hope things are going better for you now. One question tho regarding this shell tho. On the top half of the gearbox there is 2 indents where the crank knob goes. Is there a reason for the 2 indents? Shouldn’t there just be one indent or am I missing something here? Thanks again for the help and advice guys.
So I’m having troubles finding the kcghostbuster for sale thread. If anyone has any links to what they sell and can post it here I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Thanks. I’m feeling better now. 9 eye surgeries, yikes. I do hope that is sorted now as well.
I think the two indents to which you refer have to do with the maker ejecting the shell from the mold, and has nothing to do with the crank knob location. You can either safely ignore them or try to smooth them over with filler before you prime and paint.
Ya so far no more surgeries. I am considered legally blind tho. Which sucks but some sight is better then no sight which I have been through befor. Tunnel vision in the right eye and no sight in the left. Diabetes. What a wonderful thing to have. Ya I was planning on filling in all the spots that need it on the shell befor I prime and paint it. Think I’m gonna go with an mdf mobo also. Haven’t done much lately but hope to get some done this weekend. Will post more pics once they come. Thanks for the help again.
Got a couple things ordered. Ordered a set of pack lights from jack doud and a set of spacers from jay. Can’t wait to start getting pack lights in the mail.
I know the feeling on the weather venkman30. Im in the same predicam. I too recieved my sc shell and am so excited for my pack build. Just gotta wait till the better weather arrives. Till then, iv been ordering pieces here and there. I plan on doing most of the tubes out of pvc, the mobo im gonna use 1/4 inch mdf. I ordered a light kit from crix. Ill upgrade with a proper wand and sound next year. This year im using the matty wand. Im findig as much as I can from home depot and lowes as possible. Im not going for any specific pack. Im cherry picking what I like. Its mine after all. Iv done tons of research on here for differwnt techniques and builds. If you have any questions message me.
Hthanks. Ya with the wife loosing her job recently I think this build is not going to be the movie accurate pack I was originally hoping for. I too will be using a matty wand for the time being. I cut most of the tubes I need for the pack already. But I do appreciate the offer for help I will keep you in mind for any troubles I run into. I still need to look into l brackets to hold the shell to the mobo. Thinking of using robots to hold the shell together on the inside then doing the bonding to the outside. I still can’t wait for my light kit to show up. Super excited about it. This has been a dream of mine to build a pack and the time is finally here. I love this hobby.
Hey everyone I got a question. Since I now have to build this pack on a budget I was wondering if fish tank air hose would be a suitable replacement to use for the red and blue hoses on the pack. I was thinking if I could figure out the correct size I could paint them the correct colors. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I’m with Azevedo. I would just spring for the hoses in the shop. Being on a budget myself for this build, I’m cutting corners in other areas so I CAN get the good parts when needed. All my tubes ( booster, injectors, hga) all PVC. The ion arm I’m cutting up an old abs drawer I had laying around.
